My date had listed a few restaurants that she wanted to try. Murky Waters was one of them. My sole reason picking Murk Waters was that it was a barbecue restaurant. Who doesn’t want to try new barbecue places.First off, the parking in the area was not very good. I’m not from Ocean Springs so I should’ve researched this before going. I had to spin around a few times to find a spot. I finally found a salon that was closed for the night to park. It was a quick walk from the place so it wasn’t too bad. When we entered the building we were greeted by the wait staff. We were asked if we wanted to go upstairs where live music was being played. It was only $10 but we decided to stay downstairs to focus on eating.I looked at the menu for a bit. I noticed sliced brisket and quickly made my decision to get that. I went with fries and mac and cheese for sides. My date got the burnt ends. The food came back super fast. I didn’t know how I felt about that. It was a good surprise because I was hungry. The Mac and cheese was really good. I also enjoyed the waffle fries. The brisket was alright. I guess I’ve been spoiled because the flavor of the brisket didn’t jump out to me. I was expecting a more smoky flavor and what I tasted wasn’t that. Don’t get me wrong it was not bad. It just was not memorable. I do want to try other things on the menu though. Maybe I’ll come back.
We were 4: 2 couples staying at the Beau. We took an easy uBer to Ocean Springs and ate lunch here based on recommendation. It did not disappoint. Three of us had the Bloody Mary - tasty! I had the salad topped with pulled pork, balsamic vinaigrette & a touch of BBQ sauce DE- LISH! My spouse had a burger and fries. The other couple wanted the Burnt ends but they were out. So, one opted for the brisket and fried okra. The other chose BBQ sandwich, collard greens, and fried okra. I had a taste or four of the fried okra - so fresh, hot, and crispy! We enjoyed our meals so much and would return to Murky Waters again. It is a casual atmosphere, with a nice bar area, and upstairs later in the day, they have live music. Our hostess and server were very attentive.
A nice spot to enjoy live music and good BBQ! The upstairs location offer a smaller menu than the downstairs area, not sure why, but a side note! The burnt ends and smoked chicken was recommended. These were paired with collards and fried okra. Both meats were well cooked just right with a smoky touch! The collards were ok, but the okra was perfect!
Saturday night, party of 6. Service was 10/10 - friendly, helpful, fast. Food was 9/10. Burger, wings, loaded fries, okra, pulled pork, brisket. All was delicious. Atmosphere 9/10. Live music was great, not overly loud but fun. Highly recommend. Would return!
We came by here on a Sunday afternoon for some BBQ, and we were not disappointed. The Nachos w/ Brisket were yummy, the Fried Pickles were lightly battered and properly fried, the Burnt Ends were crispy and juicy, and the beer menu was solid. The other members of my party go the ribs and wings and they liked them as well.Service was really good, with a special shout out to both Alyssa and Shannon for recommendations and mixing up my kiddo a great mocktail.
Im from way out of town. Was recommended by a local and extremely glad we stopped in. The food was second to none. The service was fast and friendly. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. If youre ever in Ocean Springs, MS, its a must stop. Take it from me, you wont be disappointed.
Im not a BBQ fan, but I really enjoyed the service and the atmosphere. The new place is super nice compared to the old place a few doors down.Even though I dont like BBQ food, everything was really good. No complaints on flavor or portion sizes. My fiancé and I split an appetizer and an entree. We ate all of it, we were both full, and had enough room for a few beers while we were there. All together, 1 entree, 1 appetizer, and 6 pints of beer were $72 before tip. Thats the going rate for us, so I feel like this place is priced decently, and we will be returning in the future.Good job guys!
Beautiful building. My server was terrible. She took our order but never came around.Had to get another server to refill a drink. Ribs were ok. Sides were good too.Went to the ladies room and the soap dispenser didn’t work and it was full to the top.Apparently no one can wash their hands with soap. “Kinda scary”Won’t be back.
Me and a few friends had come in to eat before going to home to Louisiana, and safe to say, we were disappointed. The start wasnt bad, we ordered the Yellowtail Tuna Dip, which was pretty good, and it came out fast. However, after we placed our order, it took 30-40 minutes to come out. There were tables near us that were sat after us, got similar orders, and got their food first. When we got the food, it was lukewarm at best and before it got cold. Was a hard eat.
I first visited this eatery on Thursday evening for dinner. Our server Shannon was great. The wings we ordered was smoked and seasoned to perfection. The chicken nachos was good too. Everyone was nice and friendly. Only problem I encountered was feathers on the wings. Shannon apologized. Fast forward to Sunday I was in the mood for wings again. We headed back to Murky Waters again. We ordered 18 piece wings to go and I asked the bartender to make sure no feathers would be on the wings & he assured me he would let the cook know. He bagged the order up and I checked it out and I pointed out that the wings still had feathers on it. He said Ill ask the cook to redo them. He stated that the cook refused because all the wings have feathers on them. Rick said he would refund our money back and speak to the owner or manager about the situation. My friend said no so we took the feathered and partially burned wings. Ill call tomorrow and speak with someone. I think the cook could have done a better job of handling this. I dont know if Ill visit this eatery whenever I come back in the area or recommend to family or friends. On Monday June 13th I called to speak to a manager about the situation on Sunday. I spoke with Iris the general manager and she was already aware of the incident per Rick. She apologized and agreed that noone would want feathers on their wings. She had already spoke with cook and kichen manager. Iris asked if I could come by for lunch and we said yes. Iris treated us to lunch and everything was GREAT!!! Our server Esther was on point and attentive. The food was good just seeing feathers is a big turnoff for me.The cook was the problem everyone else was fabulous. I can now give an extra star and recommend this eatery to family and friends.
What a let down! The food wasnt really edible, overly salty and dry as heck. Floors were sticky, and the staff was just as clean. The sound system was excellent, but not a single blues song was played during our hour-ish visit. The decor was lovely southern blues charm, but dont look up. The ceilings are peeling and the AC vents are gaping holes. It was quite the experience though - Ive never had dry collard greens before today. 🤷♀️
Ok Check it out. Blues music, smoked chicken wings that are phenomenal and great friendly service....if you pass this up you will be missing out I promise you. I had a blueberry, lemon sour tap beer that was perfectly sweet and sour. Umm did I mention that the wings are mind blowingly good. First smoked then finished briefly in the fryer to be crisp. Medium hot and sweet asian. Oh my Lord. So Dang good. I will be BACK!!!!
Portions were generous. Staff was friendly and attentive. Salad, fries, and fried okra were good. Cheese fries had nacho cheese and I didnt like how it paired with the tomato and other toppings on the loaded fries. Biggest issue was that the meat was very dry. Though the sauces were descent it couldnt make up for the dry meat. It was a slow day so it may not have been as fresh as it would have been on a busy day. Check out the pics I posted for a good look at the brisket.
We came here with our son and daughter-in-law for a pre-Thanksgiving dinner. The food was wonderful as always, we each had a different plate, no complaints. Our server, Maleek (sp?) was fabulous!! He got us samples of two different beers, orders were correct and served quickly. So personable and friendly. Would love to know when he is on the schedule to plan our next visit!
Bartender was great. Had the brisket sandwich and some wings. Their wings are very good. They managed to not get any of the brisket onto my sandwich at all. Had to build the sandwich myself. Also that was the worst brisket Ive ever had. Absolutely awful. Dryer than a desert. WAY WAY WAY too expensive. Over 50 bucks for a sandwich, wings and 2 beers.
Great food with nice outdoor seating and shaded as well. This establishment does have a live music venue so check out times and dates. Pretty good food a full bar with liquor and beer and a decent selection of draft beers. A lot of people say that the burnt ends are delicious. I tried the burnt ends and did not care for them personally. I did try tuna dip and it was smoked and I thought that was tasty. BBQ....ribs are really good and smoky and I paired the ribs with coleslaw, baked beans and potato salad and all were really good.
The food was pretty good here. The only downside was that I visited here with my coworkers for an evening meal and we waited a long time for our food. By the time our food was served, it was cold. Aside from that, it actually tasted pretty good.
Took my mom here for her 60th birthday. She unfortunately tripped on the top step to walk in because her shoe was untied. She had multiple employees ask if she was OK and she was. We got the loaded waffle fries and they were delicious. Pictured is brisket and sausage with coleslaw and beans. I got the chicken fingers and fries. The food was super great. Waiter was very attentive and made sure we were well taken care of. Great little bbq restaurant in downtown. If we lived here wed be back
We went on wing night( I think they were $0.59 each) which ended up being the high point of the meal and unfortunately I didn’t get the a pic cuz we ate them so fast. I highly recommend their smoked chicken wings 🐔🍗My husband asked the bartender to recommend a local beer and he tried to serve him a Yuengling! Service was slow, some guy kept walking around and getting in everybody’s way & our server acted like she didn’t feel well and kept grabbing her stomach. The funny part was the “chopped” brisket sandwich we ordered from this bbq restaurant- it should’ve been called a “cubed” brisket sandwich! I’m from Texas and have never seen a cubed brisket sandwich before 😆 Anyways, their wings were excellent- they should just sell their wings! Oh yeah, the brisket was dry, dry, dry 🤮
Food is always great. Weve come back several times. Weve had better experiences eating at the bar rather than a table. The food is consistent though.
Best chicken wings Ive ever had! Seriously. Much more to try and, believe me, I will. Great atmosphere. Great staff. The owners are great folks.
I am from Ocean Springs and frequent this location regularly. I truly love their BBQ…great smoked wings, chicken, pulled pork…if it can be cooked on a grill or smoker they’re champs at it. Would physically fight someone if they tried to get in on my Murky Water potato salad. My family’s BBQ staple on the coast. That being said…I ordered some sides for catering this last weekend…potato salad, baked beans, and banana pudding this past weekend. Service-impeccable. Potato salad-phenomenal. Baked beans-outstanding. Banana pudding-WTAF. I don’t know what I was expecting, but it did not even remotely match the quality of food that I get from them…hence the 4 star rating overall and on the food. It looked and tasted like instant custard pudding with bananas chopped in it, was covered with what looked like store bought whipped cream, and had just enough nilla wafers on top to make you angry…they were around the outside edge of the pan and crushed/sprinkled on top. There was not one nilla wafer in the pudding. It was a cold, runny mess. Y’all gotta step that banana pudding recipe up a bit to match the deliciousness of everything else you make there. It was truly awful. Still highly recommend this place and will definitely return, but I will definitely pass on the banana pudding til y’all change that recipe, for sure. 😉Holler at me and I’ll hook you up with a good one. 👊🏻
I haven’t been impressed with the OS location for a while. Quality has dropped tremendously.Anyhow, my wife and I decided to go celebrate a huge achievement for her. All she wanted to do was to go get ribs at MW. She usually gets them at the GPT location but since I wanted to go to Glory Bound afterwards we decided to go to the MW in OS.The new building is nice. We walk in and instantly notice how loud it was. Unbelievably loud. It’s not a night club and the noise was just from diners chatting. But it was so loud that I couldn’t hear the host nor could he hear me, we had to keep repeating ourselves. We only wait about five minutes and get our seats. We can’t even talk to each other without yelling because of the noise and lack of sound absorption material. The young server comes over to take our drink orders politely and walks off. Promptly brings them back but I wasn’t quite ready but my wife wanted only the ribs.We finally place our order and the waitress comes back and says “oh yeah I totally forgot we’re out of ribs”. On a Wednesday night (wing night) at 8pm? Seriously? She was apologetic and nice, so it wasn’t her fault. I get the $25 check for the two drinks, tip her and leave.I’ll stick w the GPT location. Not sure why they’re so different.
2 because of great service. Have given it 2 tries and can honestly say want be back. Food: ribs tuff and dry, brisket tuff and taste like they were boiled, out of many items at 11:30 am. Will say service was good.
This is always a go-to restaurant when Im in the area. The food is ALWAYS good, consistent (which is tough to do with BBQ), hot and reasonably priced. Great beer selection, friendly and attentive staff / bartenders and a relaxed environment. Indoor and outdoor seating gives you a chance to either escape or enjoy the weather. Id highly recommend visiting. I try something different every time I visit and this last time, iwent twice in the same weekend. My first time having the fried okra, 🔥 🔥 🔥!!! Sorry no pic for that specific dish..
All the food was delicious I recommend the wings they are the best wings I had in my life and the fries are really good and the kids menu cheeseburger is very good and the waiter was very good
First time here. Waited an hour for our food while other tables that ordered at the same time as us got theirs, and then...it came out cold. The pulled pork was good, the BBQ sauces were good but the brisket was a meager portion and crazy tough. The waitress asked how it was and we told her. She muttered sorry and walked away. We did end up getting a discount on our bill but due to the wait time and quality/quantity of food we wont be back and cant recommend.
Hubby and I ordered 3 meat plate. Brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken w/ potato salad and onion tangles as sides. Brisket was outstanding but we only got 2 slices on the platter. You get reg., hot and vinegar bbq sauces which you add yourself. Pork was ok, chicken was dry but had good smoke taste, potato salad was a huge serving and tasty but on the bland side, onion tangles were yummy but mostly a heap of 1/4 pieces ..... Waitress had a gr8 personality and service was quick. Restaurants a/c may have been out cause place was extremely warm and muggy. Bathrooms are in back of the building & were absolutely filthy w/no ventilation or a/c & broken door lock. Its kind of a grungy place more like a well worn bar than a place to eat.
This was my first time visiting. It was a packed house and we had about a 30min wait. Everyone we spoke to in line said it was worth it. Wednesday is Wing Night. .65 per wing. Lot of different sauces. Even though it was packed service was great. I had the BBQ Burger. It was HUGE! I will be going back!
Can’t say anything good about this place , only gave it 1 star because I had too. The service was terrible, the guy that waited on us couldn’t get anything right . He would forget what we would ask for. The food was horrible, only had about 4 tables with people and it took forever to get our nasty food. Never again…
We love this place. Great family atmosphere and great food good drinks sports on tv and great musicWhat else are you looking for? Oh and pretty good prices, too. Compared to other good places.
Food and service were outstanding. My husband had seen this place on Food Networks Burgers, Brews & Q, so we thought wed give it a try. All the meats we tried were delicious-smoked sausage, ribs, pulled pork & brisket. The onion tanglers, potato salad & Texas toast were fantastic. My only disappointment was with the collards which were beyond spicy (I like mine sweet like Grandma made them). Other than that, great meal in a very cool location.
Excellent. Had a party of 13 got seated immediately. Their cocktails whew!!! Watch out cause they will creep up on you. The catfish is some pretty good catfish. Collard green got a sweet taste to them which isnt a bad combination. We had a friend order the sweet potato fries which they were cooked to perfection. I dont think anyone didnt like their food. Highly recommend Murky Waters!!
Probably the best wings Ive ever had but also the only smoked wings Ive ever had.... pretty much smoked to perfection. However they finish them off (oven? deep fried?) gets them super crispy.I will be recommending this place to others and will be coming back again for wing Wednesday (65c wings!) before I leave town.
Well tonight they had big group and couldnt get food after 30 minutes to three of us at the bar. So future if you go in and big group go elsewhere.Brisket perfect and smoked wings delicious.
Best smokeed chicken wings you will ever eat. 89 cents on Wednesday. Enjoy some good beer or margaritas with wings.
Great food, hands down. Not one complaint. Service was good, and the store manager personally walked around talking to customers.
This place does not disappoint. I went here a few years ago and absolutely enjoyed everything on my plate. I also liked that they had two different barbecue sauces that I could actually handle as far as spice/heat.
We attended my husbands office Xmas dinner last night. What an awesome venue. The service outside and inside were so attentive and kind. The food was great. I dont know her name, but her position there is like the entertainment director. She was so sweet as was our server and bartender. Overall just a great experience. Merry Christmas 🎅
The BEST barbecue on the Gulf Coast. We drive from Mobile because of the burnt ends. Delicious!
Love the place they have great food. I like their smoke chicken wings, theyre briskets really good, and they usually have live music
Terrible experience. Waitress was in such a hurry that she did not listen when we ordered our meals and they came out wrong. We politely explained and correction was made; however, when we received our check we were overcharged $12. Worst part: when my husband (again)politely explained the error, she argued with him saying we had said things we hadn’t said and she would not correct the bill. BIg mistake-our issue was not about money, it was about courtesy and the lack of it. We left unhappy and will therefore tell everyone we know about this negative experience at Murky waters in Ocean Springs. Bad press is a big price to pay for a $12 error. By the way, the barbecue was very good.
Murky Waters has great barbecue and I recommend this place for local southern food. It has a good selection of beer. The service was awesome the people that work there are really polite. It has a great outdoor patio area that is covered. They are known for their smoked wings I highly recommend them they have multiple flavors for their wings.
Outstanding BBQ!Had what seemed like a very new server. Absent-minded and aloof.Otherwise the service and experience was outstanding!
Shady business practice. Attempted to use a $50 gift card that was purchased 2 days before Christmas. So 3 weeks ago. They claim their system changed from Square to Toast and can no longer take this gift card. But want me to come back another day, to have it transfered to their new system. Conveniently, this system isnt work yet? Why would a business sell gift cards for a system they are no longer going to use? I will not return to this business.
Food was pretty good. Loaded nachos and the wings are great! Catfish was good, I just like mine a little more well done. They were busy so call ahead or be prepared to wait a bit. Lots of good Live music and they played the UFC fights while dining. Recommend stopping by
Listen... I am so mad!!! This is one of Mississippis best kept secrets!!! I ordered my wings with flavors. Listen... the flavors are ok, but trust me less is more!!! We then ordered a batch of plain and ate them with only the original bbq sauce. Jeeeeesus!!! Yall!!! The wings are good with the sauce, but these mugs are amazing without!!! I hope you all enjoy them as much as me and my family!!! Customer service is amazing as well!!!
Wonderful food. Also, there is trivia here every Thursday night starting at 7.
Wonderful barbecue especially liked the burnt ends. Waiter was super friendly and attentive!
Fast forward to a little over a year. We came back. Ive been waiting on this. It DID NOT DISAPPOINT! If you ever find yourself in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, do yourself a favor and stop here and eat. The BBQ is amazing. The service is great. I will be back next time Im here!Loved this place! The atmosphere was fun. I had the pulled pork and baked beans. I would take a bath in those baked beans. Legit. And the Bloody Mary! It wasnt too spicy and wasnt too tomato tasting. It was spot on. My husband had the full rack of ribs. Pull off the bone tender. Totally going back next time were here.
It was nice to enjoy a local Mississippi draft while waiting for my takeout order - they have a good draft beer selection with wine and mixed drinks, also.I ordered the 3 meat combo - pork ribs, burnt ends and chicken wings with beans and greens and every bit of it was great and it was a lot of food. They have a shady patio, too, if you want to sit outside.
My wife and I decided to have a lunch date today at Murky Waters while we were in Ocean Springs. We love Murky Waters over in Gulfport and decided to try this location. We got there at 11am and were seated right away, which was nice. We were the only patron in the whole restaurant. Unfortunately, it certainly felt as if they were not ready as they were still stocking and moving chairs and looking for straws. Eventually, our food arrived but was not very appealing. My wife had the pulled pork salad and it was just iceberg lettuce with tomatoes and onions on the side along with the pulled pork on top. Nothing exciting about this salad at all. I got the brisket sandwich with a side of collard greens. Again… nothing special about the sandwich. The collard greens were actually better than the sandwich. Overall, nothing great to write about this location. Our server was cute in the fact she had been struggling to find straws and ended up grabbing two from the bar- going back to the kitchen to grab a napkin to wrap them up and then giving them to us saying she found some. We did appreciate the effort.
We were visiting the area and had a recommendation for Murky Waters. Wow! Were they spot on!!! The meats are slow smoked and incredibly flavorful. The burnt ends were off the chain good - amazingly tender!!!! This will most certainly be a return visit for us when down in the area. Well done!!!!
Great Food, Great service, Great atmosphere, and I had great company 🥰Them burnt ends were GoooooooooDT! 🤤😋
I had the smoked half chicken and my wife had the brisket sandwich. Best smoked chicken I ever had. Wife loved the brisket - no fat. We both had the onion tanglers which were great. My meal came with 2 sides so I also had the excellent baked beans. Great service, nice atmosphere. They have a really good Carolina red sauce. Vinegar with a hint of sweetness.
Popped in just before closing time. Place was clean, service was quick and friendlyFood was very tasty and plentiful. I had feared the worst going in so late during the week but was pleasantly surprised. The only complaint could be the lack of other patrons during our visit hence the low score.I noted the place was packed over the weekend and heard nothing but good things about the bbq from others.
Good but not great. They only have live music on the weekends. There was no seating inside so we sat upstairs. The flies were relentless and it made the whole meal kind of gross. The food was fantastic, the pimms drink was great too but we had to leave a lot of food on the table after the flies swarmed the plates.Pro tip, only eat inside, drink outside.
Great service and food. Cant wait to come back!!
Okay, so I ordered takeout. Never been here before. I got the the Choose 2 Combo, 2 meats 2 sides and a piece of toast.. Great. I chose smoked chicken because I freaking love it.. and brisket because its either amazing or awful and I like to gamble I guess... My first mistake. For $25 they gave me 3 slices of brisket that were so unbelievably dry no amount of BBQ sauce could help choke it down. Even my dog was like nah, Im good, tks. When I saw the chicken I wanted to cry.. Its a half smoked chicken, I chose dark meat so its a leg quarter.. I dont know where they got this malnourished bird from but this chicken was so tiny I thought maybe I misread the menu or the poultry guy messed up and gave them Cornish hens by mistake. It was no joke the size of a chicken wing drummette. Now, I will say the chicken was a tiny bit dry but it was very tasty. Also, I got the collard greens which were good. I give a B+.. And the potato salad was the winner. Its delicious. Moral of the story is this was nowhere close to worth the price and someone needs to report the farm those chickens came from because theyre being underfed. The end.Oh. And the spice sauce is no joke. Its hot. Loved it tho. Still couldnt save that brisket.
Beautiful atmosphere love what they did with the new buildi had to use a knife (not butter knife) to cut the brisket, it was very dry.. sauce couldnt save her.
After years of happily eating at the old location, we tried the new place at 5 on a Friday afternoon. Food took forever and was good, but not great. The downstairs is SO LOUD that the 4 of us could barely talk to each other. None of us have hearing issues, and it was not that crowded!!! Did they even consult a sound engineer? It was a relief to leave the noise stress. And, do they NOT have cleaning staff?? No bathroom should be that filthy before the start of a weekend. The guys said their side was nasty too. The only way well come back is if our friends are playing music upstairs. So sad!
We went for my nieces birthday dinner. I was not excited about it because of the poor quality the first time we went but being her birthday, we went. Still pitiful. My husband ordered an shrimp poboy which had a whopping 8 shrimp on it! It didnt even cover the bread. Very little lettuce and 1 slice of a small tomato cut in half. This was their dressed poboy. I got the steak melt. It was very dry meat with a half melted slice of cheese. It tasted horrible. I do not recommend wasting your money for poor quality food. The atmosphere is extremely loud and somewhat cramped. However, our server was a nice young lady who did her best.
Food was good. We had a party of 17 and we were seated quickly. The server was great! She didnt miss a beat. Menu was a little pricey but not unordinary for a beach locale.
The BBQ was amazing, baked beans were also very good. I was surprised at the shrimp salad though. It’s wildly overpriced ($14) for just some shaved lettuce, cheese, three cherry tomatoes and some shrimp. Our waitress was great, very friendly. But other than the salad we enjoyed the downtown atmosphere / location and the pulled pork. Would recommend and will be back. Also, some of the best fries I’ve had in the area.
The atmosphere was great had some good blues but we were upstairs and it was just to hot. I know they cant control the weather but more fans or something. Besides that it was a great time highly recommend.
So delicious! The atmosphere was perfect. It wasnt too loud and our server was so nice. We were able to have just a little taste of some of the drafts to be sure that we liked it before purchasing. The food was amazing. I got a melt and the butter on it was to die for. My husband got a burger and the bun and meat were delicious! Get the sweet potato fries as your side.! Will be returning.
This location is not what they used to be and is apparent that management and owners are desperate. They are cutting corners any chance they can with their product and it is noticeable in the quality of food they serve today. The most obvious cost cutting is the buns. They used to buy Sheila Partin’s buns from Sweet Mesquite Bakery in Texas that provide a soft and fluffy texture. Now they use cheap and low quality walmart buns…. Also, portion sizes on sides and meats on sandwiches have dramatically decreased from what they used to be. They also use canned spray butter for their Texas Toast and now walmart buns instead of the liquid butter they used to use. The smoked sausage comes pre-bought frozen and cut up. Hamburger patties are bought in bulk and then frozen. They use liquid smoke to prepare their smoked tuna dip. Ribs and brisket are rarely fresh and reheated using the microwave. Thats only scratching the surface— and on top of that menu prices have increased with the poor justification of “inflation”. Just imagine what other products and ingredients they cut corners with…They are also known to pay off the health inspector as their previous location struggled for years with a roach infestation, but never shutdown or received lower than an A— as any infestation would result in immediate failure. Hence why the owners rarely appeared at the old restaurant and their slight eagerness to open a new one. This LLC continues to use shady and unethical business practices, don’t let their new location fool you.
Had dinner here on Thursday Aug 18 2022. I had the BBQ king burger with sweet potato fries and my wife had the pork nachos which she loves from here. Food was really good as usual. My wife ordered a beverage which was sub-par her drink came out only about half full with no ice. Definitely not what we thought. I did hear the server say they have hired several new people. So maybe that could have been the case. But the overall experience was good. They are building a bigger place close by with an upstairs. I imagine it will be really busy once it opens up.
Omg... this is the best barbeque I have had in a loooooonnnngggg time! You cant go wrong with anything on the menu. The wings and burnt ends are a must have. We went back the next day and just ordered another burnt end plate to take home with us. Its just that good!! Cant wait to go back.
Stopped in for lunch. Outstanding Pulled pork and brisket sandwiches. Great sides and excellent service.
We enjoyed the food here. Pulled pork was excellent and we like the choices of BBQ sauces. I dont recommend the burnt ends because they were too fatty -- even for ends the fat was excessive.
Great food, great service from Austin.
Food taste good but… Friends got wings and sweet tea and I got the clarksdake sandwich. All three of us ended up with terrible stomachaches and I woke up puking. I’m thinking maybe they need to clean their tea jugs or something 🤮 new location just doesn’t have the same vibe as the other either :/
This place as the absolute best barbecue that I have ever eaten in my life. The staff is so kind and the owner is the absolute sweetest and kindest woman that I have ever met. They always have the best music playing and the patio has such a fun atmosphere. There is even a picture of me hanging on the wall with the owner in the entrance when you walk in the door. My favorite thing on the menu is the okra.
Went for the first time yesterday to their new location, beautiful space- you cannot even hear yourself think. The noise echo inside is terrible- they need some sound panels on ceilings or something. needed ear plugs. Food was ok, I got the pulled pork sandwich, was ok cold and not a lot of flavor, the beans were wonderful.
Its like a cafeteria in there. It looks very nice, but it feels too wide open. I know they dont have a lot of space to deal with, but something is off. Food is pretty good.
Great food and super service. Thank you. Hubby and daughter loved the potato salad. Said the thick sweet bbq sauce was yummy. Was able to get a sandwich with no spice to meet nightshade allergy. Sweet potato fries were awesome. Daughters boyfriend loved the bbq nachos. Said they were better then most. Would recommend.
Last night for dinner ordered a very expensive steak sandwich that was small and had burnt cheese. 15 year old ordered pork nachos that he didnt even eat. Was excited to try since so many locals recommended. But not getting again anytime soon.
Fantastic fresh juicy BBQ, sides were good too, and phenomenal live music. If youre visiting from out of town I highly recommend a visit to this place for an authentic Mississippi experience. The reason I didnt give 5 stars was because the bathrooms were disgusting like they hadnt been cleaned in weeks.
I always come here for the brisket but I got it and it was so dry i couldn’t even eat it so I asked for a new order (I don’t know why I thought it would come out better), took a bite and was so let down. I touched it with my fingers and it was cold almost frozen in the middle. So grossed out and sad that it’s a bbq joint that can’t even serve good brisket. Go to the one in Gulfport or don’t go at all.
Some of the BEST BBQ I have ever eaten! They were a bit short-staffed but everyone working was hustling and getting the job done. Highly recommend this restaurant!
Service was great! The pork quesadilla was sooo good! Nice smoky flavor. Husband throughly enjoyed the wings. Again, he loved the smoky flavor. He says best wings ever. Hope to be back again next time we are in Ocean Springs.
Hands down the best wings my husband has had. Great beer menu and the catfish was great. My little had sea monster (catfish) and super casual place, friendly staff, and neat location downtown. These visitors from California will definitely be back!
We have been eating here for years. The last 2 times have been awful. Today the food was just not like it used to be. We had a big party and the place wasn’t busy at all so our food should’ve come out fresh but it did not. Food was cold, tasteless, and overcooked. Honestly it’s obvious the quality and quantity of food here has drastically decreased in the last year. For the amount of money we paid, it was not worth it at all. We tried to give it another chance but we will definitely not be returning.
Murky Waters is second to none when it comes to the best, most polite knowledgeable servers around, mouth watering food (that includes everything on your menu), and the new restaurant is incredible.
Food was excellent but they ran out of 2 of our choices... in all fairness it was Easter Sunday and they were one of the few places open for dinner. Our waitress was great, but the food took forever to get to us. I would still recommend it because the food was that good! Definitely try the chicken wings, but everything we had was great!
Awesome pulled pork! We had the quesadilla and the pulled pork sandwich. Not fatty or greasy, and no artificial smoke flavor either! They serve three different sauces, regular (a sweeter style), spicy, and a vinegar based sauce which I loved! Generous portions on everything.
This place is great for sea food and regular American food. Indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly and attentive waiters and waitresses. The food is on point. Although I wouldve liked my burger pink in the middle. 😏 Otherwise their wings, burnt brisket tips and sausage, fried onion, cheese appetizer platter was great. Highly recommend for a good bite of food.
The service was fair, food was not good they have the worse chicken wings ever! 😫 brisket was tasteless though the French fries were actually good.
This place is awesome great southern hospitality. The winfscare the best Ive ever had. The shrimp platter was wonderful not over cooked lightly battered. This place gives big portions definitely more bang for your buck. If are in the area I would highly recommend going here for some great food!!!
Avery took care of us and did an amazing job. She asked about us and we said we were headed toward Nashville. She suggested we go to TheListening Room. On her advice we did and she was right-it’s a great venue. We enjoyed the food and atmosphere at Murky Waters. We will be back again sometime on our travels.
Great dining experience. BBQ is my jam and Murky Waters delivered, the pulled pork was righteous and the brisket was melt in your mouth. Best brisket I have had since I left Texas. My love for BBQ is only rivaled by my love for craft draft beer and once again Murky Waters delivered. Justin was a great server and his recommendations were spot on.
Second time there. Fries and shrimp tasted like the lid fell off the salt shaker and it all poured into my food while cooking. I had never had sweet greens before... yuk! Service was ok. Definitely not worth the price.
Beautiful new building. Food was very good. Could have been hotter though. I got a spicy pineapple margarita that wasn’t spicy at all so that could use some work. Will be back.
Absolutely fantastic place for a cocktail, and BBQ sandwich.
Good food, nice vibe. However, if I can lodge one complaint... This isnt really on the restaurant, so there is a caveat to this. There was a couple at the bar(at like 5:30pm) drunk and they couldnt keep their hands(or lips) off each other. I get it, drunk and in love(lust). But, Im there with my 9yr old and 5yr old daughters... I was able to point out thats NOT how to treat a lady. I was hopeful that a manager or the bar tender would have said, Hey folks, knock it off, act your age or wait until you get to the houseThe craziest part is that these two were not teenagers, or young adults, so they knew better.
Best dam Bbq I have had in a long time! The okra and the bake beans taste smokey. The wings are crispy and the pull pork wow! Everything about this place is wonderful. The smell is intoxicating when you walk into the place and its not loud. Good for kids and adults.Beers come out cold and the food is hot!Fast and fun servers (Ashley was our girl)Never once did my drink get empty and she was honest about what tasted good. What to avoid and what to go to town on, wings!-local person!!
Food is always fantastic. Great burgers, great po boys, great appetizers, great ribs. Lively atmosphere and great service! Its our go to place to eat a real southern, hearty meal. Oh and the baked beans arent something you should pass up on! Theyre the best side dish in my opinion. Youre missing out if you havent gone yet!
I had a three meat combo with 1/4 chicken, beef brisket and butt ends. I also shared 1/2 order of nachos with brisket and an order of fried pickles. Everything was excellent! We sat outside and ate our appetizers then went in for the dinner as it got windy and a bit chilly. I highly recommend Murky Waters in Ocean Springs. Its great!
I got a shrimp basket and was told that they just ran out of cocktail sauce. That was the only explanation no other options nothing. My wife got pork taco tacos and they were horrible would not recommend this place.
Omg,love this place. First time I visited there(EASTER)I ordered a slab of ribs, fried okra and the onion tangles. When our server (Melissa),brought my order,I almost fell out my chair,it was so much food for the price we paid. We had to have carry out plates. We will be going back soon. Everything from the food, atmosphere, server was superb. Thanks to the whole staff especially our server Melissa. See you soon.🤗💯😍
Service was friendly and quick. Food was good. I wasnt expecting the pulled pork nachos to have ball park style nacho cheese sauce, I thought it would be real melted cheese, I didnt care for it but the kids ate it up. Pulled pork sandwich was good and waffle fries were good and crispy. We ate outside which was nice. Later we went in to use the bathroom and it was super grungy. I was kind of thankful I went after our meal, bc if I had seen it before we ate I mightve been grossed out eating food that came out of that building.
Great dining experience here! Wonderful first date. Excellent, attentive service. Our server gave great suggestions. Burnt ends and sides will definitely be the reason I come back...yum! Drinks were decent. Blues band was amazing! BBQ and blues was just what I wanted. Ill be back, perhaps for a 2nd date 😏
We were here this last Sunday for lunch and by far the best BBQ food we have ever had! We are not local so we ordered several different things on the menu. Our two favorite are Burnt ends and chicken wings but when I say everything we ate was amazing, I mean everything! The Shed was our favorite place until my BF came across Murky Waters the last time we were in Gulf Port. And you have to try their Smokey Bloody Marys! We are pretty picky with our bloodys and this one was the best we both have ever had! It was raining out so the patio is a really nice big space that has plenty of room to sit. The service was great and personable! Dont miss this gem!
If you like BBQ, you need to try this place! And they multiple locations throughout the Mississippi Gulf coast. The location in Ocean Springs has a music venue on the 2nd floor.
Friendly staff and delicious food! The variety of sauces available makes for a customizable bbq meal. The atmosphere was amazing and my wife and I were easily able to share a Pick 3 Combination Meal. We left very satisfied with our experience. As with most shops in Ocean Springs, it just required a little walk from a close by public parking lot.
The food was great, as always! Server was great, just a bit overwhelmed. (They were slowing down after an event.) Atmosphere was phenomenal. Definitely recommend!
My buddy and I Found this gem kinda on accident yesterday on the way to the golf course and im glad we did!!! Both him and I liked it so much we brought the rest of our group with us today for lunch. Both days we started with their smoked wings which are outstanding!!!! full of flavor, crispy ,but not dried out. And Im pretty sure all the sauces are made in house and are 🔥🔥🔥, as a group we got a good mix of things off the menu and all left satisfied.. the wait staff was prompt and attentive. If I had to say something negative is that they ran out of brisket for the day, I was really looking forward to trying that, but that just gives me an excuse to come back when Im in town!!!
Great atmosphere with plenty of TVs and right on government st. Generous portions on all the food my table had and service was great.
This is another must visit restaurant in Ocean Springs if you visit Mississippi. Your order is always freshly prepared. They have the best brisket Ive ever eaten and very tasty wings and crispy fries. The staff here is accommodating and this eatery is located in a great area where you can go and walk off the great meal you just ate.
They had a decent menu and the prices were reasonable. I had the smoked chicken. It was delicious. The sides were an opportunity to improve. I would stay away from the collards. I put a generous amount of pepper sauce to make them edible. Their sauces on the table were great and flavorful.
Waitress was funny, service was good. The only issue our group had was fries - way too salty. And not just one meal but all of them. Everything else was tasty though.
This place has pretty good BBQ. The band is always awesome. The service is definitely not the best, but weve only been twice and may have just had bad luck. The food makes it worth it! Would also be super duper if they added Bushwackers to the drink menu.
Don’t come hungry as the wait can be RIDICULOUS. Otherwise, cool spot.
It was delicious! I really enjoyed the brisket and ribs. The brisket was a little more fatty than others I have had which I did not love but very delicious overall. The slaw was ok but a little too saucy for my taste. There was live music which they have a few times a month. I hear they are known for their burnt ends. That is what I ordered but they didnt have any left.
Great place with live music which was VERY GOOD, the staff was so friendly and inviting, and the food was SUPER GOOD, there was so much food to eat, had to take home and enjoy later at home. Our server was super friendly and our food came to our table so fast. My granddaughter enjoyed herself and wanted our food to eat instead of Baby snacks. Highly recommend visiting Murky Waters to experience great southern hospitality and great food and live music.Lynne Bell
Very good Smokey Bloody Marys. Only 9 bucks for one of the best drinks Ive had in a long time. It comes with pulled pork stuffed olives. The atmosphere is pretty nice to. We went for lunch and it wasnt too busy. Bartender was also knowledgeable.
Pretty good food, but you definitely pay for it. 2 adult meals and 2 kids meals came out to $87 flies flies flies and I must say very dirty. Literally layers and layers of dirt and dust on the outside fan. Our table was put together with an actual shoestring. Our chairs outside were broken and my daughter was cut beneath her bum from it... Staph waiting to happen😬 a decent cleaning would change things for the better. I reccomend making a checklist that staff must accomplish before closing or opening to keep it clean. Ive honestly seen cleaner places in slum neighborhoods which is very sad considering your eating in uppity downtown ocean springs. Chairs are cheap..replace them before someone gets cut significantly or falls through them. Also please for the love of God replace the table being held together by a shoelace🙄
Use to be my favorite Ocean Springs restaurant. Last night started out with our server spilling my glass of water on me. Not 5 minutes later, he spilt a glass of water on another diner at a different table. Then our order came. Our table ordered two pulled chicken plates and two half chicken plates. The half chicken on both plates were not close to done. I had not been to the restaurant in a little over two months and was a little puzzled that it was only about a 1/3 full at 6:30 on a Saturday night. After our experience, I am not surprised. The entire experience was not very good. The only reason they got a third star was because the fried okra was still great.
Highly recommend chicken melt. So yummy.
Food was nothing special. We had soup & sandwich, kids chicken tenders, and I ordered a chefs salad. For the price, I wouldve liked a larger portion. Meat and toppings on top of salad was generous, but I wouldve liked more lettuce. Lettuce is so cheap, why not have more on the plate?? $12.95 for the soup and sandwich seemed a bit steep.Tap water was gross. Is it not filtered?Service was good, not great. Took too long to get the check and we were seated right in front of the bar where the servers were most of the time. Long finished eating and still didnt bring the check, good thing we werent in a hurry. Was not impressed enough to go back. Were new to the area and will try other restaurants. I guess theyre known for the BBQ & wings, and beer(we dont drink) and we lived in TX fo 10 years, so we know good BBQ. And the live music brings people in but we went mid-day on a Saturday.
MASKS NOT REQUIRED. Love the fact they let the customer decide versus mandating a mask. That is the reason we came here and will return again. Our other favorite to visit (were from Florida) still requires them. Wont go back there.Food here is GREAT!Service is GREAT!Location is worth the trip alone. We will return...often!
It was a beautiful day outside so I never saw the inside of this establishment, choosing to sit outside and enjoy the weather. The food was great, service was a little slow considering they were not busy at the time (thus the 4 star instead of 5), but overall a great place. I will definitely eat here again. Parking could be more friendly as I had to park behind the donut shop and walk, which you expect in downtown Ocean Springs, but it would be considerably more convenient if there were better parking close to the restaurant especially during non-busy times. Don;t let that stop you from trying their steak sandwich though.
Great BBQ. The pulled pork was fantastic, but the sauce choices left a little to be desired. Otherwise, 5 stars. Being raised with Kansas City BBQ might have influenced my tastes, though. The wait staff was friendly, attentive, and good about letting you explore their beer selections. Definitely should try this place if youre in the area.
This is one of our favorite meeting places. The wings are soooooo good. They dont even need any sauce, but the sauces are also amazing.
Service was excellent! Our waiter Nick was great and so friendly. We ordered a beef brisket sandwich, pulled chicken sandwich, onion rings and fried okra. It was all very good and not too smoky. Their different bbq sauces were good, with the vinegar base being my favorite. They had a good selection of beers on tap. I recommend if you get to Ocean Springs.
Excellent food. Waitress was knowledgeable about gluten free. I got the pick 2 with coleslaw and my daughter got the pick 3 with fries. She took her leftovers home. As for me I cleaned my plate. Seating inside and outside. Very casual. Ocean Springs location is great. I need to give the Gulfport location another chance.
The rest is clean, staff is very friendly but the food fell way short. The last time I webt there was about 18 months ago. At that time food was great..Would the everyone best in Ocean Springs but this time total opposite. I even ask waiter if there were new owners. The brisket was very tough and had to chew and very dry. The ribs were dry and not much flavor at all. Okra was undercooked and raw and potato salad lacked flavor. Are about half of everything.
Side orders were good. Server was excellent. Ribs were barely warm and very tough. I have never had ribs that were so difficult to separate. Do NOT order the ribs!!!
Food was great and service was very great ans welcoming. we ordered and five mins later our food was ready hot and fresh! We ordered a platter where you pick 3 different meats for a set price that came with 2 sides and toast for $18.95 we had the wings, brisket and ribs. the ribs and wings were amazing!! my husband enjoyed the baked beans and onion rings I like their sweet potatoes fries. Only flaw about this food it could have been more food . we thought that it would definitely be enough food to share. It was 4 wings 4 ribs and 3 slices of briskets plus our 2 sides and 2 slices of toast. However, Its plenty food for one person and a small child. overall excellent food, price, and service we enjoyed it and the atmosphere!
Awesome food and service! The Honey Hot Smoked Wings were great 👍
Best BBQ on the MS Gulf Coast. Great atmosphere and a great beer selection. I especially love the 50 cent wings on Wednesday, which happen to also be the most amazing chicken wings Ive had. They are smoked and then flash fried. Then, they are tossed in whatever sauce youd like. Needless to say, they are unreal.
A local icon. Great spot for any kind of food. Their sampler platter was phenomenal. It put any and every other smokehouse to shame. I heard their wings were good, so tried them without sauce. I was literally left speechless with every bite. Whatever you hear about it, its not over hyped.
If you like your burnet ends to be completely made of fat and not actually burnet ends then this is your spot. Had, high hopes and was so disappointed! Pit master needs to do some QC. Burnet ends were trash, sides were ok.
The food is amazing. The wait time is a little long, but that is to be expected with quality food. I would order your kids meal first so they dont get to restless. A little pricey but again the Clarks dale, pulled pork, and wings are delicious!
The food was good...the only reason Im giving this 2 stars is because the staff attitude was lacking!! The hostess wasnt very friendly and our server was even less so. We felt like she had the attitude like she didnt want to be at work that day and it was our fault she was there. She couldnt get us out fast enough. Everything we asked for she acted like we were putting her out!! We were visiting from Florida and dont know if we go back if well eat there again. If we do maybe well have a much happier server.
Cool pub style atmosphere with plenty of dining area inside and out! Great food. Wife had pulled pork sandwich, with slaw on the side. BUT she put slaw right in there on meat. She said great mix of flavor and texture. Slaw pulled pork sandwich, yum. I had the burger with pulled pork on top. I left the bun, watching my carbs. I should have asked to for go the bun. I am bad. But this place is good. Plenty of drink choices listed. You need to get here!! Then enjoy the community area -by taking an after dinner stroll. Cool place on the coast!!
Hands down some of the best wings I have ever had in my life. They smoke the wings first and then when someone orders they fry them up. You can taste the smoke on the wing and the flavors are delicious. I would highly recommend
Best place on the coast for good BBQ and entertainment. Service was amazing. Will eat here every chance.
The food was very good and the service was very good. The restaurant was so noisy you could not talk across the table.
I so badly want to give this place 5 ⭐ but..I cant. Keep reading...Im not from here, born and raised in Tx so I know beef. Im in town because of a relative in the hospital...anyway...I was in the mood for some beef bbq so I googled. This place had very good ratings so I went for it. I ordered the 3 meat combination plate, sliced brisket, sausage and burnt ends, I took double salad so I cant talk the sides. The brisket was a tad dry, it wasnt bad, it had good flavor but, a bit dry for my taste, I give it a 3.5. The sausage was pretty good, great flavor, very juicy, not the best Ive had but if I go back, Ill definitely consider it. The burnt ends....hands down the BEST burnt ends Ive ever had. Ive eaten bbq from Kansas, Texas, Louisiana, Nebraska, Alabama....and Im serious, these are the best Ive ever eaten or smoked myself. The flavor/smoke was perfect, the crust gave a slight crunch and once inside it just melted in your mouth. I went with the vinegar based sauce and my burnt ends never touched it, they were perfect. If I get a chance to go back before I leave Ill get just burnt ends and THEN I change this to 5 ⭐ if their as good.
Food, beer, price and atmosphere was great! Only downside was the service. I didnt catch his name but I was told he was the managers son. Multiple times we would ask for drinks and it would take the third time we asked for him to bring finally bring it. I also ordered more food but it never came. I asked him to check up on it but my order never came. Next time Im back i will be asking for a different server.
Food excellent, except for....I ordered a salad , it was served on a tray with paper on the tray...soggy paper at salad end...great waitress...not bad blues playing...
Good food and good serviceRelaxing atmosphere
Food was good, but the service and atmosphere was awesome.
Sauce was delicious, and the dry rub was good too. I like the celery taste in the ribs. The best dish we had was the tuna dip. The ribs and brisket was very very dry, which was a disappointment. The potato salad seems kinda old and almost stale, and the collar greens was over season and spicy. The service was great though.
