We went there at 6pm on Thursday of march. It was my first visit and my parent’s second visit. We were able to eat lots of crab and pork meat which was great. I think this is what makes this visit meaningful.Indoor experience was great as the waiter could find us easily and there wasn’t any bad smells. But outdoor space had some problem about the smell. (Not in all spaces but most)The toilet was not very clean. The ocean view was great.
This place was like walking back in time. It felt like an 80s bowling alley upstairs. We caught fish on a local charter and brought it up and they cooked it for a charge. That was nice because we were staying in a hotel. They had pool and fusbol too which our kids thoroughly enjoyed. Also, they had a snack bar open that was included with our meal. We enjoyed it!
I visited this place in either 1983 or 84. I finally returned 8-2-24. We had server number 1215. Service was excellent. The food was outrageously great. The portions were awesome. When my girlfriend came back from the buffet she had a huge smile on her face And I brought twinkle in her eye. She said oh my God they gave me two sets of crab legs not one but two. Everything we had without standing. The night before we went to a restaurant on the south end of the island I wont give out a name and give them any free advertisement they were in area of 33000 ish of SP RD 100. Did I mention our meal was almost $50 higher South of Queen Isabella Causeway ? I will also say your food was way better and less expensive. Everything we had was delicious. Very few places in my life that I have went back for second time and lived up to the expectations Louies Backyard after 40 or so years you exceeded my expectations. Visitors of SPI if youre reading my review scratch all those low reviews most of those folks have very few reviews out there very few of those reviews are status as local guides status. Visit this place and see for yourself. One last thing managers, servers, prepares and cooks job well done!
The atmosphere on Louie’s Backyard was welcoming for the Fireworks of Memorial Day 2024.There was live music, great service provided and the food was delicious. The Buffet style seafood was amazing, especially their crab legs. 🦀Accessible for ADA guests. ♿️Shade provided on the patio.Upstairs patio available as well.Patio leading to an amazing view to the water.Restaurant to return to.
We went for the buffet. Located on the second floor. Not a very large selection, but it was worth the price in my opinion. Finally found a place on the island where my wife likes the food. If youre a fan of crab legs, then this is a good place for you. The people that work there serve you on the buffet line. No problem with that, they serve you alot!!
Buffet: $32 adults, $15 kids from 4-11yrs. I went there yesterday, It has a really good atmosphere. The waitress was very friendly and attentive she could also speak Spanish/English. They dont have many food options in the buffet, and they serve the food to you, which is fine in my opinion. There are flies everywhere and its very hot outside, BUT the view is irresistible. The inside of the restaurant has AC, but the wait time was around 20/30 minutes. Restrooms are fine, nothing fancy, definitely clean. Recommend for friends and adults, not to children since they might not eat as much.
Went here with a kiddo and it was decent. ⚓️🛥️ The food is decent. I wouldn’t say it lived up to the price. 🦀🦞🦐🍤We did not get the Buffett so maybe that’s where it gets good. 🤷🏻♀️ The atmosphere was great. There’s live music. 🌅😎Optimal place to watch the sunset & take pics. 📸Across the street is gravity park with a Ferris wheel, go carts, & arcade games. 🎡Would be a nice place to take a date. We’d likely have more fun without the kid in tow. I’d recommend this place if you want a lot of food, and lively atmosphere. More for drinking & watching the sunset. Probably not an ideal place for kids but not necessarily too adult. Like I mentioned, there’s a little mini-amusement park across the street. Oh and the sandcastle exhibit too. 🏝️
This place is a DUMP!!! I have no idea where they took the pictures from but it’s not that nice. Old furniture, run down. Uncomfortable and moldy outdoor furniture. The service was great, but with that said we had the all you can eat buffet so the waiter really didn’t have to worry about anything but the drinks. The buffet was TERRIBLE!!! The salad bar was not kept clean and they had fans in the ice inside the salad bar to keep the flies out. The salad bowl with the lettuce had so much water in it, it made it soggy. The pasta bar was DISGUSTING, again not kept clean and not refilled often. The sides bars GROSS. Food was old and dried up and majority of the food was cold. The seafood bar, was super small and in a cramped area, it was hard to get to. This seafood bar is was DISAPPOINTING!! The only decent item was the crab, the other food was limited and not good. The restaurant was DIRTY!! Food was all over the floor and the staff would step right on it and not clean it up. The same goes with the tables, food was left all over the floor and not cleaned up. Just go somewhere else. I’m gonna call the health department and ask for an inspection. It’s sad that I spent that much money on a terrible dining experience.
Not the best. We went for the experience, sat by the water. Great view, nice for pictures, we saw the sunset. Our server was very nice but our food took over 40 minutes and the place was practically empty on a Monday evening. The drinks were better than the food. My son ordered a steak medium rare and it arrived very late and medium well. My daughter couldnt even eat her Mac and cheese. The server told us the Mac and cheese was what was taking forever. My meal wasnt memorable enough to remember but again the drinks were good.
This place is a lot of fun the great drinks great atmosphere and the times Ive been in the staff has been awesome the parking is a nightmare and the food is not that great Ive been to the buffet many times throughout the years-- the prime rib is greasy, the sides are bland and overcooked, the salad is wilted, the crab legs and boiled shrimp arent the freshest and the bathrooms are always out of a paper products and it looks like a tornado went through there BUT what I like is the entire package --the live music, the fireworks, the people and the atmosphere is great. They have a lot going on besides the food and if anything the drinks and the desserts are always good!
My husband and i been to this restaurant several times but always forget to give them a review. They deserve 5 star for everything. The buffet menu is just what we love with snow crag legs, prime beef, coconut shrimp 🍤... The service is really good. We always feel welcomed here! The big plus is they have fireworks for weekend and at the restaurant patio is the best view! Highly recommended!!
The dinner buffet was great. The service was friendly, and the view over the bay is perfect.Update 02/28/23. The buffet area has new flooring that is much cleaner looking than the old carpet. The servers were all friendly, but there werent enough waiting on tables. It was difficult to find someone to refill a glass or bring anything. The food was great. Nice prime rib and plenty of snow crabs.5/6/23. Still a great meal with a wonderful view.07/27/24. Not much has changed. Waitresses were friendly, but still difficult to find them when drinks were empty. When it started getting crowded, they opened an outside buffet, so there was mo waiting.
Not sure why this place isnt even over 4 stars. This is a great place. I was skeptical at first, seafood buffet for only $30 how good could it really be. But we gave it a try anyway and so glad we did! Staff was so nice and helpful. And most of the food was honestly delicious! The fried fish, ribs, and mac and cheese were amazing! And how can you beat all you can eat crab? The atmosphere is fun and upbeat and the night we went they had a short fireworks show. If I were to ever visit again I would definitely go back!
We went here for our last dinner on our vacation and was not disappointed at all. This place is huge, has plenty of seating, and is right on the water!! You can expect a great view from almost anywhere outside! The mixed drinks are a bit on the expensive side, but very good! I ordered the pecan encrusted red snapper with fries and it was awesome!! Highly recommend experiencing this place if you are on south padre island, especially during the sunset!
Cold inside as outside was about 37. Food was cold. Plates cold. Inside on the 1st floor it seemed run down outdated. 2nd floor was updated, very nice looking and huge with 5 separate eating areas. 1st floor was the buffet, 2nd was a bar with live music. The buffet didn’t impress me. There was many options and most likely you will find foods you like. 2 of the scrimp I liked, some the bbq, not so much the prime rib, somewhat good the crab legs. The pictures are from upstairs
I recently visited Louies Backyard for their seafood buffet and was pleasantly surprised by the culinary journey. The **variety of seafood** was good, with each dish offering a taste of the oceans bounty. The flavors were well-balanced, and the food quality was commendable. The service was **somewhat good**; the staff was friendly and attentive, though there were moments when the service could have been more prompt. Its understandable during busy hours, but a smoother experience would enhance the overall dining. The atmosphere of the restaurant has potential but could use some attention. While the setting is casual and fitting for a seaside eatery, a few touches could elevate the ambiance to match the quality of the food.In summary, Louies Backyard serves up a satisfying seafood buffet that hits the right notes on the palate. With a bit of fine-tuning in service and atmosphere, it could easily become a top-notch dining destination. **3.5 stars** out of 5.
Its a nice place to hang out with your friends and family. They have music and great ambiance. Dress casually because its hot but the breeze more than made up for it. We had the buffet. There were a lot of options to choose from, and everything I ate was delicious, especially the boiled shrimp. Service was great as well. The waiter was very attentive. Overall I was impressed.
This place definitely has all-you-can-eat crab legs. The service was okay, and she was very sweet, but we did have to look for her multiple times. She may have been handling multiple rooms, so I wont say the service was terrible. On the crab legs they arent huge, but they are a decent size. I think the problem was that we got there too early. We got there right at around 5 pm on a Wednesday. It seemed like the crab legs had been soaking in water as they were challenging to Crack and would just bend. The reason I think this is because as it got busier, they seemed to get fresher and started being easier to crack and were coming out beautiful at the end. The grilled shrimp was honestly probably my favorite here their flavor was so good. I would recommend them adding some items to the salad bar, like more toppings. Overall, this was pretty good, and I didnt feel bad about the cost of this meal.
The food quality is low. Preparation is poor. I ordered for a party of 4. 1 order was completely forgotten. Two sides for 2 other plates were forgotten. 1 out of the 4 orders came out complete. I ordered the snapper and was expecting a fresh filet. Nope! some previously frozen white fish harder than a rock came out in the shape of a perfect square. Dry, hard and tasteless. I sent everything back. This place needs a change in management, wait staff, and probably new procurement. The margarita I ordered was water with flavoring. Horrible all around. They are appealing to the buffet “all you can eat” types. Nothing more to say.
Food is amazing! All you can eat crab legs and seafood is worth the money. Our waitress was really occupied with other customers but still managed to keep our drinks full. Overall, awesome experience and we are definitely coming back.
The food 🥘 is of very poor quality! The only reason people go is for the crab legs but the remaining buffet is sub par in quality and taste! That so called prime rib has an off putting sour flavor and was so hard to chew! I spit it out! weird meat! &so tough! The only other edible item was a skewered shrimp in a smokey sauce .Potato salad was uncooked hard potatoes! The manner in which the buffet is jammed in a corner inside was ridiculous! nothing was appealing!sodas were all flat and watered down ! we tried several!Outside is hot and so sunny ! not enough shade, but the servers were nice girls.never Again!
9/15/2023Our food took a while to come out even though there wasnt a lot of people. If you want to eat right away, I recommend their buffet, which has most of the things on the menu, but not all. I had the grilled chicken, and it was flavourful - not too dry.4/9/2022Pretty good service, and the food was delicious! I was not impressed by their adult drinks, though. I tried two different ones, and there was no flavor. The cheesecake, on the other hand, was delicious!!Great, relaxing view if you sit outdoors. The restrooms are kept clean. You can take your kiddos to the rides in front of the restaurant, which are just a short walk away.
The food was excellent, I had the Seafood buffet. Everything was fresh, and tasted amazing. I would have given 5 stars across the board, but our waitress was irritable and not very courteous. Other than that it was a good time for our whole family.
Would recommend going elsewhere for a family dinner. Waited over a hour for food ordered on the menu. One guest was told they were out of the order when they eventually brought out cold. Only positive is the manager did cover the bill for the two of the meals ordered. Buffett had the items available (baked potato) but said it was not available for the meal ordered separate from the Buffet. Every bad review I read before coming was accurate. Atmosphere was decent with the firework show but the experience with the service and food ruined our night.
You can eat right on the water and watch the sunset, or dine inside, your choice. The prime rib was fantastic, shrimp several ways, the crab legs could have been fresher, but theyre a long way from home. Waldorf and mixed greens salad, steamed veggies. Dessert was massive and great. Our waitress was attractive, attentive, friendly and prompt. Ill definitely return
We came at 6:30 on a Monday, and we were not impressed. The restaurant wasnt busy, so I dont know why the service was so slow. Three of us got the seafood buffet, which was kind of disappointing. There wasnt very many options, and since they were slow, everything was cold. I could overlook that, since the math checks out (slow night means the food isnt depleted as quickly and can get cold), but two of us ordered off the regular menu. The restaurant only had about 15 tables with people at them (probably 5% capacity), and yet it took over 30 minutes for the made-to-order food to slow up. The made to order food was just fried chicken fingers and fries, so 30 minutes, at 5% capacity, is ridiculous. When it got to the table the food was hot, which means it wasnt sitting, they took 20 minutes to start making it. The waitress was alright, she stopped by the table at a normal time interval, but she wasnt overly pleasant or anything, hence the 3/5 for service. The biggest detractors were the lack of options: the seafood buffet didnt have much, and the salad bar was very sad. It was bagged lettuce and a few toppings... the VA hospital has a better salad bar. For the 5 of us, the bill was $160. Not worth it in my opinion. Maybe well try it again on a weekend.
Got seated outside, the mosquitos were a freakin nightmare. We were moved inside and it made the meal a bit more pleasant. The crab legs were great, and so was the spicy shrimp. The all u can eat buffet wasnt what we expected. It is a very small buffet, and the employees serve you. The service did make up for it. We all give it a 3.
Me and my family love going to Louie’s backyard we have been going for years now. I have always received great service but today we dinned in the bar area and ran into an employee called “David” was the rudest employee I have ever meet mind you he did me a face as well while coming into the bar, did not seem like he liked his job at all. I couldn’t even eat my food in peace of how much he just kept on looking over at our table. Our waiter was the sweetest, friendliest but that employee just did not help.
Ive been to Louies 2 times. Once for lunch. Tacos were fabulous and so filling they were also my dinner.2nd time was with family for the buffet. It did not disappoint. Absolutely delicious and if I being honest, it was so good I would have paid more. The server was amazing and found us a seat away from the sun. Definitely a do over
Tried this place again a year later. Terrible service. Couldn’t get help and ended up leaving. We won’t be returning. This review was based solely on the food not the views.Chicken strips seemed to be cooked in old oil and had a bad taste to them. My kid didnt enjoy them much.My wifes seafood platter was 80% good. The crab cake smelled funny and seemed to be cooked in the same old oil.I had a French dip. It doesnt come with cheese and it was pretty flavorless.Overall the prices werent terrible, but I wouldnt return here for the food. Service was good.
We’ve been 2x on our vacation and loved everything about it. Service was on point. Food was delicious and drinks were worth the money. We’re here a few more days and have plans to go back ❤️
Excellent seafood buffet and wonderful server! We enjoyed everything about dinner tonight. The crab legs were the biggest hit along with several types of shrimp and fish. My second favorites to the crab legs were the shrimp scampi and blackened fish. Delicious! Were sad theyre closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day but happy for the workers to be off. Well be back asap!
We tried out Louies a few years ago and sat outside and enjoyed some tasty food from the menu. This trip, however, they said only the buffet was available. The room was packed and the air was stagnant. The food wasnt bad, but not mind blowing either. I suppose it was decent for the price, but I dont think well eat there next time the buffet is the only option.
The crab legs were ok, everything else was just awful. I have been hearing about this place for years due to them advertising on a blimp, it was my first time and we paid $40 a person. The line to eat was terribly long due to them closing the outside buffet at 7 pm. The food was not tasty at all. For that price I was hoping to have a great tasting buffet.Shrimps ALL still had the poop sacks in them, completely visible!!The bathrooms were beyond disgusting. Completely wet, no one cleans in there, vomit all over one of the toilets. A leaky ceiling in the other. No soap! The service was ok, not rude people but not super attentive either.Save your money, do not go there! First and last time we are going there
We ordered the seafood buffet. Very disappointed on the selections. Then I asked to see a menu. I was very disappointed on the selections. I paid to much for the meal. The only thing that was good was the chocolate cake and the new York style cheesecake and the margarita and The service was good. I will never go back again. Not worth the hype.
Mediocre. The shell to the crab legs was very rubbery, making it hard to break. Food was overcooked and lacking flavor. Almost like crockpot food that has been sitting for way too long. I’m sure it’s because they have to prep for such a large buffet crowd, and they start things earlier in the day. But because of that, the food loses its crunch and flavor. Our server was sweet, but she wasn’t very attentive because she was trying to tend to her other tables as well. Lots of people wanting the buffet. It’s atmosphere if you sit outside, but that’s about the only thing that’s good is the views.
Had the buffet as we were looking to get some crab legs and we were ushered up to a small, cramped space. There just wasnt much right to go into it. Maybe the other experience is better but I cant imagine how a place could fail so badly in one spot and shine in another.
We did not have the buffet. All the tables around us did. I ordered the 6 ounce steak, it was beef jerky. We also had shrimp Mac and cheese, my husband likes everything and he did not like it. Kids had the pork chops and fried shrimp. Not good. Took almost to get food. Server was attentive, but I will not eat here again.
Our waiter was amazing and helpful. We caught fish with Bennys Charter and they cooked it for us. We also purchased some wings and their pecan crusted fish tacos and they were amazing! I wish I took photos!
Overall a nice experience. The atmosphere is great for a beach community, the people are friendly and the food is good. I had the seafood platter and the wife had the border tacos, wed definitely eat there again. Only wish their cans of Michelob Ultra werent so expensive, for what 3 cans cost I can buy a 12 pack of Michelob Ultra pure Gold
Mixed experience. Wouldn’t recommend for food but if you do drinks with a view it is great! We sat downstairs outside on the patio and had a great time! Our server was quick and nice.Sat upstairs inside at the bar and the service was horrible. Had a guy and a girl as the bartenders, the blonde girl entirely stopped checking on us. When the guy took over he flat out told us he wasn’t going to lie he wasn’t paying attention to our order and couldn’t tell what was ran to us when we asked him what the plated item was that came out. The chicken wings came out very broken, it was very hard to eat the bones being shattered. Will come back and stick to drinks!
The grilled shrimp plate thing. It was pretty alright. I added lots of extra lemons and pretty positive that was a white sticky rice and not a rice pilaf..it was a massive portion of rice. I thought the menu read that seafood came with all you can eat salad buffet but was respectfully corrected it is only one trip. There menu was so small. So it’s possible it has a rotating menu. The lowest priced thing besides kids meal was $23 Alfredo (which I would go with if I go next time).Great environment, wonderful sunset, good service!
Went at 10 pm to eat after a long day of swimming. got to the door, and were very rudely addressed at the front door for ID. I didnt know you needed an ID to eat at a restaurant. Its labeled on Google as a restaurant, if its a bar they should make that clearer.
Went May 2024. Just got drinks here. Good strong margaritas and the wait staff are friendly and fun. Odd setting though. Seems like a converted casino and it was empty when we went. Still good for a cheap drink on the bay.
My Grandson and I had the buffet. At $33. Per person it was so not worth it. Everything except the crab left alot to be desired. Selection was almost non existed. The only thing that was really good was the service.
Food was horrible, everything that we ate was way overcooked. Buffet area was disgusting and no one spoke English. We actually got sick the next morning, avoid this place as far as eating. The flyers and pictures are old, it looks nothing like that. Its dirty and gross.
One of the best places to hang out on the island! The views are amazing. Wonderful food and drink specials. Friendly accommodating staff. Abe, our bartender really made the experience great for us. His suggestions for food were perfect for us. Great place to watch football games in the sports bar upstairs. This place has something for everyone!
Beautiful place to eat and watch the sunset. Overall seafood buffet was a 4 out of 5. A decent selection of food but the crab legs were not exactly hot when served. The selection and taste of the shrimp was amazing. The vegetable selection was ok, but the music and atmosphere around the water was memorable.
We loved Louies! While the buffet was small and Id prefer to serve myself, the food was great. Our waiter was attentive but not overbearing and there was plenty of extra staff on hand to help with dirty dishes, drink orders and other needs. I was impressed. The entertainment was awesome and the view of the sun setting was incredible. We loved it so much we came back to watch the fireworks on the 4th! We even met Louie, their furry friend on the porch 😁 well definitely visit again the next time were in Padre.
Waitress had us 40 minutes waiting before letting us know they were out of what we ordered. Very unprofessional and low class. You might enjoy getting drunk and puke there but go elsewhere for the food
Sign in the front says wait to be seated, and after waiting awhile with nobody coming to seat us, we sat ourselves. Waitress came to leave us our menus and had a rude tone of voice. Never came to check on us or ask if we needed anything when she brought our food. Would check on all her other surrounding tables and we’d have to wave her down to get her attention. We ended up moving to a different table to escape some bee’s that kept landing in our food, drinks, condiments, had to ask a different waitress for more condiments since ours never came. Bee’s followed us to our new table so at this point we were ready to just leave but also waited forever for our check and again, had to ask a different server if he could ask our server to bring us our checks. Food was okay, ended up feeling sick a couple hours later. The view of the water was nice, that’s about it. Won’t be returning, there’s plenty of other restaurants on the island with a nice view of the water with better service and food.
Food wasnt as good as I remembered but the fireworks at night were perfection. Loved seeing all the party boats going by. Kids tore up the crab legs.
Some of the best views on the island. Watched the sun go down and the beauty is aw inspiring. Second story deck had lovely music with Jason Whorlow playing piano. Food was good we had the seafood basket, amd the burgers was delicious. Prices are very reasonable around $10 a plate. Will be coming back.
Heard so much good things about it. So we went to try to the buffet, but I wanted to look before we grabbed a plate and Im glad I did, they only had prime rib that wasnt seafood. I wasnt about to pay $35 and my wife can only eat rib, so we left, no thank you
Came here for a birthday celebration and Friday fireworks. We reserved a table, had excellent service and a wonderful time. Will definitely go again
It was a good place but don’t hold your breath for the buffet, it is pretty small. The atmosphere is great right on the water. Service was great.
Im not sure what the hype is about this place. Just a large dark ,dirty place. You walk into a mall type setting. The hostess rattles through eating options and points to 3 different areas to eat. The 3rd 1 was finally where we wanted to go. Staff stumbling around every where. Service was horrible. It was not busy I saw 1 server working her tail off. This was through out the place. Food was OK. Hubby had the rib special. They were very good. I had the seafood variety basket. I really just wanted the hushpuppies the menu said it came with. It came with fries. I figured they were out but it would have been nice to know. I would have ordered differently. We had to ask the hard worker for silverware. Couldnt wait to get out of there.
If this place could get a negative 1, Id give that. Food was terrible. Burned food and over cooked scallops. No crab legs available. Smelt burnt when you walk inside. Super old building too with flies inside. Its all you can eat but you have to stand in a line, wait and get served. Im okay with the served part but not everyone wants to same stuff. I would never recommend this place... STAY AWARE, save your money, and eat elsewhere!
Seafood buffet is small...not the best but was able to get full. Could not communicate with some of the staff, making it more challenging to navigate the buffet since they portioned the food (you dont get it yourself). Food was warm but not fresh. It was ok. The salad bar is super limited.
This place needs some serious improvements and repairs. Some TLC to the facility would do it some good. We attended a work function and a seafood buffet was provided. The food was not great… Still saw a lot of folks visiting the restaurant. It could be that the location is great or the drinks at the bar (which I did not have).
This place is in a great location, but the experience ends there. The service was sub-standard and slow, and the food was not impressive for the price. The value of this restaurant is its location on Friday at sunset for the view of the fireworks. I wont be back.
Food was very disappointing. I paid $80 for lunch, 3 people. I ordered the scallops. The saddest scallops Id ever seen. I had the baked potato 🥔 with it. Potato was still growing in the field. My fork couldnt even poke through it. They added the zucchini with my scallops so my plate wouldnt look so lonely. The taste was awful. Tasted burnt. The waitress hardly came to our table. We were the only guests. I had to literally say HELLO so someone could come out. Such a bad experience. Will not return. I can cook better than this place.
This restaurant is delicious. Seafood made to order so its hot, crispy and fresh! Our waitress was friendly. We had a party of 12 and she was magnificent. Gratuity is included in the bill Here, which is perfectly fine bc she was attentive and did a great job of refilling and checking on us. May I suggest the extravaganza dish. Its a sample of everything and will feed 3 ppl. 😍 the shrimp ceviche is good too!
Louies food quality has steadily gone down over the past couple of years. The crablegs are barely palatable, frozen for too long and rubbery. The shrimp is mediocre at best. Prime rib is ok, but not high grade. Stay away from mixed drinks, sub-par and low grade for the expense. My last trip as an example, 3 adults 1 child, all buffet, 2 cokes, 1 rum and coke and 1 water, $180 bucks. Evening fireworks are nice and atmosphere is great as always. My recommendation is to find a better restaurant on the island. We go there as tradition, no longer because its the best on the island.
I wish I could say I enjoyed at least something of this place, but since the waiter basically pushed us out we didnt even get to eat or drink anything. It was me, my mother and my grandmother who is a 75 year old lady, we waited to be sat as the sign said however nobody ever showed up in the time span of likely 8 minutes, so certainly we sat ourselves on an empty table near the music. The venue wasnt even full when the waiter approached us. not only did he look upset or greet us in anyway but went straight to asking why we sat ourselves there and that they were only accepting cash at the moment. To what we answered that table was suitable for grandma since it didnt not have any high chairs again the place wasnt even full at the time. Then he went on to simply being rude and pointless, ill quote him: you cannot sit here this table is meant for a party of 5 I can find you another table, if you still wanna eat here that is anyways to sum things up a bit awful awwwful service to the point where we ended up leaving as we didnt even feel welcomed and grandma felt offended by his lack of touch and consideration plus hed repeatedly say if you still want to be here so yeah totally disappointed, we went to LOBO DEL MAR and we dont know if this 2 business are owned by the same people but it was a whole other experience where he had an awesome time with the food, service & drinks.
I would rate 0 if i could, please dont go here its not good, its 40$ for the buffet and the food is dollar store quality, and its not prepared right. our server was rude and rushing us to leave. there are a ton of postive reviews however i wish i listened to the few negetive ones. please save your money and your dignity.
Absolutely breathtaking view and deck. I highly recommend watching the sunset here.However- the service is super slow, and food is too expensive for what you get. Buffet is small and line is long. Be warned to not come here for the food, but for the view. There is also live music (albeit if you’re sitting far you can barely hear it).
I gave it one start but if I could I would give them none. This food was the worst thing I ever tasted🤢. We spent $250 on garbage. It’s not worth it at all. The only thing that was good was the croutons. My family starved the rest of the night. I should’ve known from the second I walked in that it was gonna be terrible.
We had my son and daughter in laws wedding reception there and the owner and staff is AMAZING! They set everything up so I got to do nothing but enjoy time as a family and celebrate the wedding and reception. We are so blessed to have had such a memorable experience at Louies! We live in Oklahoma and we will definitely be back!
Half rack of rib special $10..was great. Couldnt finish it all.. the place gets packed after 4pm not wheelchair asaessibile. Or dog friendly. rib dinners all upstairs..We went back again tonight to have the half rack of ribs special, and I got to tell price is great for what you get but this time smaller potions and very dry over cooked ribs for both of us. Not the greatest this time, we came away disappointed.. Ill try a different special next week..
Horrible experience. The long hair bouncer with glasses (old man) was on his high horse, kicking out people for no reason. Blaming ppl for bringing in bottles when the bartender sold it to us. This being my first experience as I am coming from out of town to have a good time with my friends I find this very annoying and unprofessional as he told all the other bars near by not to allow us in never again would I come here or recommend this place let alone they only take cash how do I know I’m not getting over charged if there is no receipt issued or offered after drink purchase.
Had a wonderful experience here! The buffet offered great food options for such a good price. The seafood from the buffet was fresh and flavorful. The staff were super friendly and engaging. You cannot beat the sunset view here and the fireworks were the icing on the cake. My family and I came here twice while on our week visit.
Went there for lunch and ordered the ribeye tacos, some of the best street tacos I’ve ate. Then went back the next day for the dinner buffet. Wife and daughters tore up the snow crab and I ate all the prime rib I could handle
We ate here our first night on the island. There are two sides to this place, one side is for people who want the buffet and the other is for regular menu. We sat on the side for menu. The sunset from here is gorgeous! Which was just what we needed because we had booked a sunset cruise and the boat changed the time and didnt call to let us know. We enjoyed our meal, the fish tacos were fantastic, but our server was a bit of a space cadet. No worries, though since we just happy to be on island time!
SEAFOOD BUFFET with great sunsetsYou can order from the menu but the buffet is very popular. Large outside buffet where you can see some local birds. Very lively place. We had the fried fish and shrimp which were very good. The cole slaw is creamy and good, My husband liked the pasta salad. They do have a surf and turf option. Upstairs deck for meals as well as an inside bar. Our server was very good and would get 5 stars.
This review is solely based off the buffet and I only came here for crab legs and shrimp. No wait when we showed up at around 5pm on a Friday, was seated immediately in the buffet section inside. Crab legs...you know why Im here, first batch was cold, no problem, Ill deal with it. Got some of the fried shrimp, solid with crunchy breading. 2nd batch of crab legs, warmer, better eating, powered through. 3rd batch, btw each batch was at least 3-4 clusters (I dont play around with me seafood), was hot and fresh, unfortunately they were over cooked! The meat inside the legs was shriveled and mostly no meat left in the claws. Not much extra flavor on these, be sure to ask for some Old Bay Seasoning. Unfortunately 4th batch was no better, very over cooked. Now the shrimp... sorry but it was mushy, very mushy, so mushy i could only eat 1of the 3 shrimp skewers...so mushy that i only peeled 1 shrimp and it mushed up while chewing, not very appetizing to where that were I maybe ate 3 shrimp total. I hate to down the buffet for what it is but at $32 a person I would expect better. The view over the ocean sets this location apart, thats a big plus. There was also a sand castle structure exhibit right across from the entrance at this time which made for a quick pass. I ate here years ago around the same time of year and it was on a better level. Showed up with high expectations and this time the place didnt deliver.
All you can eat seafood buffet……as long as they have some (that should be their slogan). We ate there on a weeknight, and they were mostly out of crab, shrimp skewers, prime rib, Mac and cheese, and baked potatoes. The lines were long because everyone was waiting on food to come out. I spent more time waiting in line for crab than I did actually eating food. At one point they had a bucket of crab come out, and it was frozen solid. I told the cook, and she just shrugged her shoulders. Save yourself some time and get actual crab somewhere else.
I was here a number of years ago with family (was the go to place). Went back last week and it’s a shell of what it used to be. Dark, stinky, bartenders, servers, hosts standing at empty stations. Save for the dozen or so elderly women line dancing, that we randomly wandered across upstairs, while looking for a good dry, non smelly place to sit. We turned around and ate next door. Saddest (nostalgic driven) experience on S. Padre…
I came Thursday night with my family, unfortunately not the best dinner we had. We all got buffet and in my plate I found a piece of metal in my fish. The buffet is small, the food was not hot and just not the best vibe here. At least they didn’t charge me for my plate! :|
Food was real good. Buffet was varied and everything we tried was good. Great sunset view while dining on the deck.
Bad management. Manager doesn’t believe customers or doesn’t care if the service was bad. I was not aware of the automatic gratuity added. First ticket was the original which I was ok with but when I offered to pay for my friend’s buffet the tip went up to $26. Imagine tipping $26 for party of one when it’s buffet.
Wandered into this place on a Sunday evening. Gorgeous sunset view from the deck. Excellent dinner at the sports bar dining area. Enjoyable live band for those who love CW music. Slow service.Dinner was the most memorable. Ahi Tuna was easily one of the best we’ve ever had. Sunday night special ($8) was baby back ribs which was perfectly cooked, tender, meaty and no burnt area, also one of the best we’ve ever had. Fish taco was tasty. Large chocolate cake was a bit dry.
It was a perfect dinner for the 3 of us after a very long traveling day!!Ahi, raw and grilled kabobs left two of us smiling from ear to ear.My shrimp were perfect. The rice was delicious. Wish it had cilantro instead of flat parsley in it.But, still absolutely deliciousness
Awesome place to hangout with friends in the evenings. Great music, good food and drinks at a reasonable prices. Bathrooms are easy to locate. Awesome place to sit and watch the fireworks on certain nights.
Place was crowded and unkempt. Food was cold and just not it with flies everywhere. we overpriced. as of 07-11-24 they charge 30$ a plate and it’s not even all that we only ate here cause we were starving. please avoid this nasty crowded place.
The buffet was a no-go for a Friday night. The best parts were hushpuppies and salad bar. People in our party enjoyed the shrip scampi. Next time, we will keep our $130 for our family of 3 to go elsewhere or to their bar upstairs for barfood and a few drinks.
Food was not great. Service was slow. Took forever to get my can of beer. Atmosphere was too down beat. Didn’t give me the beach vibes I was wanting.
Overpriced food and poor service. Didnt live up to $25 per plate. Chick-fil-a would have been a tastier dinner. Not enough servers and we waited way too long and had to track down our server a few times. Only good thing was the view. Will not be returning.
The guy taking money was super rude. There’s a $10 cover which we were happy to pay but the guy yelled at us for having the money folded in half. We asked for our money back and left. 0/10.
Crab legs were small and over cooked...couldnt get them to Crack easily. The rest of the food was terrible. Service was awful, theyd rather be on their phones and look at you than offer assistance. Will not be going back.
Coming from a long-time veteran of SPI, this place has severely gone downhill ever since Mayor McNulty and City Councilman Joe Ricco took over. The food is not that great anymore and the service has gone to the wayside. Far too expensive for the experience. The place also caught on fire not long ago due to faulty wiring. The local bar is no-more. They just dont seem to care about the place or the locals. Its an iconic place but its far from iconic anymore. Take your friends and family somewhere else.
This is by far my favorite place to go on South Padre Island. Every time we visit here we have to go to Louies. The food and buffets are awesome the prices are reasonable. The service is pretty darn good. The servers are friendly. The patio outside provides a great view of the bay side. There are multiple bars and levels in this place so there is something for everyone.
Just had an amazing dinner at Louie’s Backyard! Cruz was our server. He was 100% on top of everything and took great care of us. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Great food and amazing service. If you’re visiting the island I highly recommend. Live music was perfect.
We had a large party and almost the only people on the outside deck. The service was terrible. Only one server for a group of 27. We had to go to the bar for another second drink and were there two hours. Food was decent.
What a fun place. The buffet was great, everyone was able to get exactly what they wanted. Our server was wonderful, we will definitely be back when in South Padre!
I want to recommend this place for several reasons: first one, the food was delicious and although there were not many varieties, for a lover of seafood, I am more than satisfied. Fresh crab, shrimp and more, super delicious. Second one, the service was excellent. They worried that we wouldn’t miss anything in any way. And third one, the view of the sunset in the bay is a must. I hope to come back soon!
Hubby and I went to eat at the seafood buffet. I enjoyed the ambience and choice of outdoor seating. All of the staff was friendly and welcoming. All was well until a roach came out to say hi while we were eating. My appetite was gone at that point and I had not yet finished my food. Another patron came over to our table and said that two roaches crawled across their table and one fell on her lap! The manager came and apologized stating that being near the water causes roaches to be a problem. Not true! If you exterminate regularly whether you see a roach or not, then there will not be any insects. I have dined at MANY outdoor restaurants on water and this is the first time that I have experienced this. I feel that we wasted $ that night. Not going back. The manager should have given more than an apology since we left immediately following the incident, $10.00 off the ticket would have worked, but Im sorry was it.
Nice big place with plenty of food options. Each area/floor has a different menu. Downstairs has a decent looking buffet. I sat on the second floor outside and ordered a sampler that would have fed an army for $36. I visited on a Monday night so no party crowds or large groups. Lady sang karaoke the entire time and took requests. Sunset view was amazing. Would definitely recommend!!
Sports bar with its complimentary condiments and daily evening specials are the best value on the Island. Especially during happy hour. Dont skip this place.
We had the buffet. All the food was fresh and very tasty. Wait staff is very attentive. Great pmace
Went there for wing night with my family and the wings were extra small, cold, and tasted like they were reheated in microwave. We got up and left the wings there and told the bartender that the wings wete nasty and she said she knows. The sodas were flat and the place is outdated. Stay away
Ok..1st visit around 6ish pm. Food..NO!! As in No seasoning..NOt hot..NOt good. My spouse is the seafood person..me, no. The ribs..chewy. Pasta tasteless. He enjoyed his crab legs. They were not available when we 1st arrived. The only thing I enjoyed was my salad, the LIVE band and atmosphere. Our Waitress was SWEET!! I wish i could recall her name. On our next visit to The Island, we wont eat here.
Loved sitting on the patio enjoying our dinner. The buffet was reasonable reasonably priced and nice to choose from. Family at a lot of crab legs.
It was a nice experience. Very popular tourist area. Parking lot is shared with multiple businesses in the area, so its limited depending on the day, time and season. They offer a seafood buffet, but the price is market price, so that means it literally varies everyday. The main two dishes worth the buffet in the all you can eat buffet are crab legs, prime rib, and pork ribs. Everything else is just minimal in comparison. The view of the bay is nice. You can see the fish swimming up to the restaurant. Plenty of outdoor seating. Two stories and indoor seating available.
Louis Backyard is the first place my family took me when we arrived on vacation from Minnesota. I am not usually a big fan of a buffet, but thats what we had. The shrimp scampi and Cajun shrimp were a little overcooked, but everything else was fantastic. My absolute favorite was the all you can eat snow crab that they keep fresh and hot. It was much larger and tasted fresher than anything Ive had in the Twin Cities. Honestly, I ate so much of it I dont think they made much if anything on me. The service was prompt and very friendly. When I shared it was my first vacation in four years, they brought me a free piece of chocolate cake about the size of my head! We loved the experience so much we came back a few days later and did it all over again. I cant wait to come back and spend some time here on my next vacation. The place is a bit of a dive, but its clean and wonderful! Raquel was so wonderful, hope shes here next time!
Staff was friendly, and wait times were reasonable. I ordered the Big Texas Burger, although I ended up receiving the Backyard Burger. Its not a big deal, the burgers are pretty similar anyways. The food was good, especially the fries. The prices werent bad for the island. Overall, a pretty good visit.
We really wanted to love this place, came on a Tuesday pre-spring break, around 6 pm to listen to the live music, have some drinks and enjoy the sunset. We were told it was open seating downstairs and in another area upstairs. We chose to sit downstairs as my wife has a bad knee, but apparently if you arent ordering food, they segregate you out to only the immediate vicinity of the bar, which I was trying to reserve for the much older clientele as we had our 2 small children with us. The first table we sat at was apparently 4 feet too far from the bar area, so we got up and moved to what appeared to be a vacant table in the correct area. A server cleared it for us and we sat down, only to have a gentleman return from the buffet stating we were at his table. I was over it at this point, having moved twice already. There is no signage to help, and the staff seemed put out by our presence - so we left, disappointed and thirsty. There are many other venues on the island that are smaller that appreciate everyones business, so I would recommend one of those mom and pop type places.
Had the $10 rib special. $10 1/2 rack and fries. Ribs were good, plenty to eat. Live music, great atmosphere. Service could have been better. I would definitely recommend this place, just be aware service everywhere is spotty.
Prices on check are different from the menu. Double, triple, check your check before paying. The bartender and waitress’s are ripping you off
We were there on the 4th of July. Buffets were supposed to be $33 a piece but when we got the bill it was $60 a person! Also they added a $51.00 service fee that we knew nothing about! 4 people ate for $363!!!
For an all you can eat place it was really good food and I like that it was limited and not just ANYTHING. The selection they had even appeased people that were not into seafood! Live music was nice and of course the view! Crazy how on SPI you can easily see the sunset and the sunrise over the ocean (I looked it up and I think its okay to call the Gulf Of Mexico part of the Ocean). The amusement park was close so that was fun and those sand sculptures outside were amazing. Overall it was as good as it gets! Would have gotten 5 stars with better margaritas!
Food was great, service could be better but it’s a busy place. All you can eat crab legs at the buffet and a decent selection of things on the buffet.
Everybody loves the buffet but note that it does not open until 4pm and you can not order from their regular menu unless you want bar food. I dont care for their buffet and is is visually unappealing so I was disappointed that my only other option was bar food. The indoor buffet is pitifully small for how this room fills up after 5pm. Be ready to walk back and forth up and down stairs to get a plate.
We have been coming here for years every time we come to south Padre . The last three years we’ve notice the quality of the food has been going down . We continued to come knowing sometimes it might be a bad day . Today was the end . We simply won’t be back, pay 100 for two people and eat poor quality food . The crab legs were like eating old stale food . The butter didn’t even taste like butter . Too bad the restaurant is going down hill and just living off their name .
Very nice place with family atmosphere, the food was delicious we decided to eat the buffet, it has quite a variety and everything looked and tasted fresh, the waitresss attention was quite good, fast and friendly, you can choose to eat inside with air conditioning or if you like outside with a beautiful view, we will definitely return with my family, recommend it! 🦀🍛😊
The food was not worth the price! The shrimp was over cooked, hush puppies drier than I like and the atmosphere was that of a way side rest. The only part I really enjoyed was the crab legs. The bill came with an 18% mandatory gratuity for 6 people plus a line item to add an extra tip amount. I think a $37 tip for bringing soda and a couple beers for a self serve buffet was more than enough. I really wanted to enjoy this experience. I was greatly disappointed.
We came from Corpus Christ to try the buffet and what a disappointment. I was actually embarrassed because we brought a friend from Dallas and it was a total bust. I wouldnt even give it a 1 star for the price. For 7 of us it was 305.00 not including tip with no alcoholic drinks. Nobody got up for seconds 😒. If you want to pay for the view go ahead, thats 5 🌟
We walked into the restaurant, and it was hot, humid, and smelled horrible in there. It was dirty with food on the floor. The buffet was terrible. There was no lettuce to make a salad. The people were nice enough, but the tables were sticky and dirty with gnats flying everywhere. Skip this place and go somewhere else.
All the food was great as was the service. I would suggest having a different line for salad bar from the buffet as the wait was a little long. I would suggest sitting outside, as the buffet gets busy and its a nice setting
We went for the rib special and arrived at 530 pm. Appetizers were not replenished. When we asked we were told it was too late even though special ended at 6 pm.Our food arrived and ribs were dry and overcooked but fries and coleslaw were good.We had to ask for utensils and had to sit and wait some time for them to arrive.Service was very poor.Non happy hour drinks were over priced.
Love it here , good food , great service , place is really and nice and the best is pet friendly !! Drinks are good specially the mangolada
We went to Louies Feb. 13th, 2024, at 4:00, for dinner. According to the bartender were you had to set the inside of the bar area in order to buy meals. We were unable to get a table because all the tables were full. We walked out because no one would take our order. Theres too many good restaurants in SPI to put up with this type of no customer service.
Just walked up and the employee accepting $10 cash cover yelled at us for our money being folded in half for it being too hard to unfold. We took our money back and left.
Great place ..we had a burger and fries .onion rings were the bomb 🤤..waitress was only one working our area ,hats off to her she did great 😃.we will be back soon .
Did not catch many fish with Danny Bs.The shrimp bait was brittle and would not stay on the hook. Louies Backyard is very nice, good service and very goo food.
Get your own at the bar. Great entertainment. Fun place on the beach. I want to go back and try their ceviche. We didnt eat there. Very crowded. Must be good!
Was completely stinky the whole place had a disgusting smell and the meals were so expensive for the most awful food I have ever had with terrible service. out of my group I didn’t eat anything and I had the best meal of the night.
What bar doesnt take credit cards! Ridiculouse!!!Now to be fair, i went back the next day for the Buffet and it was really good. $25 and i was chowing down on all the Crab legs i could eat! That was outstanding.Didnt like wherebthe buffet was or the fact that i had to be served..but i totally get it....it was packed!Good times!
I always go for the Buffett. All you can eat shrimp, crab, and fried scallops are my go to!They have various cooked shrimp. Broiled, fried, and steamed.
Waiter didn’t bring us waters and we had to flag someone down to bring us drinks.. Seafood wasn’t great… got the buffet and wasn’t even good enough to get seconds.
The buffet was pretty limited, but did include (noticeably) fresh peel and eat shrimp, crab legs and prime rib. Prime rib has never been a favorite of mine so I wont comment on it. My children really enjoyed it though. The peel to eat shrimp and crab legs, though tasty, were all over cooked and on the dryer side. I felt like I kept getting more in hopes the next batch would be better. My last plate of crab legs were superb. If only my first and second had been, I probably wouldnt have had a third. The grilled shrimp skewers were very good though. I felt that, for serving such expensive items, they did well to keep them stocked. It was kind of strange that they serve you at the buffet, you tell them what you want. I mean, I get it from a business standpoint, to prevent waste or limit how much a person feels comfortable asking for, but it felt strange. Im not a fan of this serving style. One of the servers made me feel uneasy and judged because he wanted me to choose between shrimp scampi and spicy shrimp and I asked for a little of both. It was so weird the way he acted, I opted just for scampi. He made the place feel cheap. Our server on the other hand, was very attentive. He kept our drinks full and plates cleared. The atmosphere had a cheap vibe for sure. The walls were all a seafoam green, the tables all looked very dated, there was no decor in the dining area except a mirrored trim and those old 70s glass squares everywhere. It was on the water though, which was neat I guess. The dining area was also a pretty warm room. The staff was noticeably sweating. To be fair, I did not enter a single establishment in this area that was actually cool, so I dont blame them. All in all, I have no regrets about eating here. I just feel that a restaurant that has such a large focus on seafood should probably know how to cook it. Perhaps they do and everything we had was just reheated from the night prior. Im not sure. Either way, just not super impressed.
Wow where do i even begin! The host were unintrested and couldnt help but role her eyes when i was asking for a table. i shouldve known better to walk in based on that. Our server was kind, recommened the seafood buffet. Let me say it isnt worth the price for the quality. Barely any food in serving stations when we arrived. Our drinks came out quickly. We pretty much had one plate , asked for our check and left. For the first time visiting south padre this was a let down unfortunately.
It was a fun time here and the food was good and also the service.
Lovely to look around, which is about the only positive for this experience. Not sure why the wait staff couldnt recall requests for simple items like water or the kitchen couldnt deliver food as asked for in any semblance of a reasonable time frame. It was lousy first time there, which was sad considering the efforrts made to go there.
We went for the buffet. I wasnt impressed with their seafood. Ive see fried okra bigger than their scallops
