Miss Kittys Country Bar Dance Nightclub and Honky Tonk

My party of 6 all agreed, the music was way too loud. To the point we couldnt have any type of conversation or even hear the lyrics being sung by the band. The drinks were way to expensive for how bad they tasted. My olives tasted so bad I spit them out into a cup. Worst mules Ive ever drank. The trashy people there were a joke honestly. Was not worth the cover charge to get in because we did not stay long. Only positive is I got a free drink for my birthday. But I couldnt finish it because it wad gross.

Great environment and welcoming place. Was in with my service dog Cooper. Myself and Cooper had a great night, thanks to everyone there, especially Brooke who took great care of Cooper and every guest she encountered. Hope we can all strive to be as sweet as Brooke

Great atmosphere! They had a 80s cover band that was fun to watch. It was a good time. Even if your drinking Ginger Ale!

I took my wife out for her birthday, and we are in our mid 40s. We showed up about 9pm, and they had a live band, with a few people on the dance floor. I then realized, I am in Iowa, in the metro, and Miss Kitty’s is not your typical country bar. They play 1980s hip hop, and the atmosphere just isn’t what you think you are going to experience if you were in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, or Alaska. This isn’t your typical country bar. Does that make it not worth while? Absolutely not. I used to go to Miss Kitty’s about 20 years ago, and I thought it was much more lively back then, but I was in my 20s. I remember that it was a closing type of bar, and you stayed there until it closed. However, we also didn’t go out to Miss Kitty’s until around 11pm. It is an interesting bar, especially with the reverse mirrors in the men’s bathroom that allow you to see out on the dance floor. The bartenders are pretty quick at getting you your drinks, however, you can’t sit at the bar. I’d give it a 5 star if I was 20 years old, and I hadn’t ever been in some amazing country bars.

So I went with some friends to see Micro Wrestling, it was awesome! Great show! The bar is a bit small and so therefore the lines can get super long but the wait staff does a great job of offsetting that by making rounds and bringing drinks to patrons throughout the bar. But the star of the show at Miss Kittys isnt the drinks, the bar, the wait staff, or even the event I was there to see. Oh no it is the mens restroom. Yes thats right the mens restroom. At the standing urinals there is a window that allows you to look out of and see the action while youre using the facilities, which means you dont miss any of the show you came there to see. Now I dont recommend places like gentlemans clubs to follow the setup but at Miss Kittys it works and is amazing.Edit: By the response I received from Miss Kittys. Yes, this is NOT a gentlemans club. I was stating that the one way window over the stalls is awesome and more places should copy this innovative idea, EXCEPT for a gentlemans club. That type of establishment should NOT copy this idea for many obvious reasons.

What a turn-around this bar has made! New interior and live bands have boosted this club from a run-down to a happening night spot again! Good Job EJ Meyers

Enjoyed watching live music by Recoil. The sound in the venue was great with no bad seats. The service at the bar was friendly and fast. Our group didnt have any food, so Im not able to review that, but their mixed drinks were done very well.

Love almost everything about this bar, except one very important thing, my hearing. So loud it’s not fun. Won’t be back.

Some of the friendliest bartenders and waitresses in town and great atmosphere. On live band nights it can sometimes be hard to hear the person sitting next to you if your wanting to do any talking. But besides that the bands put on great shows and you can always find someone to dance with if you dont bring your own partner.The line dancing class on Thursday and couples class on Fridays are always fantastic and taught by two great individuals.

This is a country bar where they have a big dance floor out in the middle and a stage for live music in the corner. They have pool and darts too for those who like to play some bar games. The staff is quick and friendly

I absolutely love it here! The employees always greet you with a smile. They make sure you know you’re welcome and they interact on and off the dance floor. The country music is great as well as the dance floor. Never thought I’d line dance but I love it! This has definitely been my go-to place the last few months. I’ve made myself at home here. Absolutely recommend!

Came from out of town for a weekend away and loved this country dance bar!! Great music, up beat country and classic line dance songs too! Drinks are reasonably priced and the dance floor is big!!! I will definitely be making another trip to enjoy the music and dancing at Miss Kittys. Owners are friendly and there to make sure your having fun!!

Everything about this place is a good time. From the line dance lessons that get talk on Thursday, to the live music on Fridays, and then the great DJ on Saturday nights. Always have an amazing time here with my line dancing friends. Drinks arent too overpriced as well, which is nice compared to some bars out there. Miss Kittys for the win!!

I visited briefly and I like the atmosphere. People were friendly and I enjoyed watching the line dance class.

We had a great time until a fight broke out and the band quit playing.

This is a fantastic place to grab a cold drink and dance to some great country music! The atmosphere is great with one of the biggest dance floors around. Top it off with live country music from some of the best bands around and you have a night club that you are guaranteed to have a blast at! I Love Miss Kitty’s! Fun and clean environment. Large dance floor that is always a good time. They play great music and I always meet fun people there. The staff is friendly and the drink specials rock! They have a large covered patio, variety of bar type food and a mechanical bull! Check out the line dancing classes during the week or go join the party the weekends. I love how inviting and safe it feels at Kittys! 5 stars for sure! :)

I love that Miss Kittys has returned to being an all country bar/night club. I love that they brought back live entertainment & I love that I can go there & know Im going to be able to listen to Country music while there, not hip hop & rap!!. The staff is friendly, it is super clean & the drinks are cold. I give it 5 stars!!! It is one of my favorite places to go when I am in town!!

Miss Kitty’s has improved dramatically since the new owners have taken over! The dance floor is the biggest and cleanest in town! The staff is amazing and so is the management. It’s great that they have dance classes! Also great they still keep the rock n roll around on Thursday nights! Thanks EJ and Monica for making Miss Kitty’s great again!

Im giving it one star to be able to comment on our evening. I went there a few years ago and it used to be a great place. Tonight was terrible. We asked the door man before we went in if there were going to be more people than just the about 10 people that were there and he said yes. No one else came in after we did. He basically lied. The band was terrible. You couldnt really even understand most of the words to most of the songs. I asked the owner that introduced herself to me if she could have them play a particular song and she said yes, but they never did (its a popular song too, so I dont understand why they didnt play it). There was no one on the dance floor except for maybe one or two songs other than the employees, I think the employees got on the dance floor to try and get other people to dance, but it didnt work. They didnt have half n half or even any milk to make me a white Russian so they came up with a different drink which the first one tasted good but the second one was very bitter no matter what they did and I just said it was ok, after they tried several attempts at making it like the first one. My friend and I had to basically make the night as good as we could regardless that the band was bad, the drinks were not that great and there were not very many people at all, even though it was a Friday night. My friend and I had a good time because we had already paid the astronomical entrance fee of $7, since it wasnt a very good place, $7 I thought was way to much for the evening we had or rather didnt have and it was his birthday, so we did the best we could at making it a good night. Im not sure Ill ever go back. It used to be a hopping place. Im not sure what happened. I was very disappointed in the whole experience.

Great bar and atmosphere however the newer DJ needs to play a better variety of music. He plays 80% music to swing or two step to and only 20% of line dance music. There is often more line dancers in the bar than swing dancers, and as a dancer I believe there should be a more even mixture played. I thoroughly enjoy the staff, environment and food/beverages. But I do think as it is being marketed as a country dance bar there needs to be more of an even mix of music and the DJ should actually play music when a customer requests it. Also playing the same song multiple times in an hour is going to start chasing the crowds away. Just food for thought.

Been wanting to find a place where seniors can go a couple times a week and line dance. So many places are younger people, but many of us still love to line dance. Do you have special nights for older people?

Came here for a good time. Started off well with drinks and music. The gentleman who was running the mechanical bull who stated later he was the owner was black out drunk and rude. He would walk around and offer girls he thought were hot free drinks if they rode on the bull and he could recorded it. Told several girls they were not pretty enough. I also was outside when he was berating his employees about how they were not wearing short shorts. He even told one employee who was on the bull that she should take her pants off and get on ride. He said no woman is good looking unless there showing legs. I was the sober Designated driver. When we asked him about his attitude after calling my date ugly because she wasnt a showing enough skin. He came outside on the smoking area to confront us about what we mentioned to one of the servers. He informed us its his bar and he will do what he wants. Didnt argue with him since his eyes were so glossy and he could barely make a few sentences together. Long story short. Nice venue, horrible management and customer skills. Its always fun to be attacked for calling out someones behavior. If your thinking of going call first and ask if the owner is there drunk. If yes. Do not go period. He will hit on your gf or wife with free drinks to get on bull when he doesnt see you near your date *Update it was whoever was running your mechanical bull. A dance floor with LED lights. 4 tvs ubove that. A DJ booth. You can see the dance floor from the urinals in the mens room. I am for sure it was your bar with 3 pool tables. Western decor. A chair used to pour drinks down....if that is a normal thing. There was a wedding party there. I was from out of state with family and my girlfriend. The girl who was complaining about her boss was in checkered pants.Feel free to fix your bar.

I had a great time at Miss Kittys! We went there after the Worlds Toughest Rodeo and had a blast on the dance floor. I dont usually enjoy country music, but I enjoyed it that night for sure! Highly recommend to anyone of any age.

The location of the place and decor was good, but many of the people especially the staff were incredibly rude and disrespectful. I can go to many other places to have a better time and save much more money. Also, be careful of the servers. They dont like to give correct change. I probably wont be going back there and I would not recommend taking any friends or visitors from out of town to this place. There are lots of other places that are actually enjoyable to be in and can show our fun and friendly Iowa spirit.

Fun place

Wow, this place has gone downhill. Charged a $5 cover at 12:30 A.M., one song played, excruciatingly long pajama contest ends with two guys in their underpants staggering around on the dance floor. Waited 10 minutes for a stale Angry Orchard. Not the Saturday night Kittys of yesteryear. Venue does not appear to have had $.50 in improvements done since 2013.

Had a fabulous time! Great atmosphere combined with awesome music and dancing made our evening super fun! Not to mention the staff is friendly,, energetic and engaging. Don’t miss out on this place, there is lots of fun to be had at Miss Kitty’s! I highly recommend checking it out!

Ever since EJ Meyers took over this bar, it has really taken off as one of the best places to dance. The drink specials are always good and the largest Dance floor in Iowa makes it easy to learn the new line dances. The instructors are also very helpful when it comes to the line dancing. I love the bartenders there and I am certainly glad that this bar is under new management.

Under new ownership. The new owner is super fun and theres a lot more line dancing now. I heard the DJ tell some lady that he will play some rock songs but he refused to play the rap song she asked for. Drinks arent too expensive and the staff is nice.

Great place to go and dance at! They have a huge floor to dance on! The staff was great and was awesome to hang with! The venue looks big enough to host any sort of party or event! I’ll definitely be going here more often!

I never had an interest in going to Miss Kittys. But i got to know the new owners as a side effect of a job I have, and they invited me out one night shortly after they took new ownership. They showed me some before and after photos of changes they made with interior cosmetics and I can say it definitely looks better now. They have an active facebook page where they are always sharing events and upcoming live bands and themed music nights. The drink prices are extremely affordable and youre not paying the big city prices. I would definitely recommend Miss Kittys for anyone whether youre out drinking alone, meeting up with friends and coworkers after a long day at work, or going out to party- the environment has a one type fits all attitude and can be fun for anyone who walks in the door.

Was here for the first time last night and liked it soomuch I came back tonight. Instantly felt comfortable. The patrons are friendly and Jen behind the bar is awesome.

This is hands down the best dance bar in the area! EJ has gone above and beyond to transform this place into the amazing bar it is today. Everyone treats you like family and you’re guaranteed to have one heck of a time! Come prepared with the right shoes because you’ll be dancing all night!

Been going to Miss Kittys for years, I understand its under new owners and Im sure they are running how they like.The last few times I have been, the dance floor has been completely empty! They now only play country instead of a variety of dance music.The SW corner area, where New Years Eve VIP was held is no longer, will have to find a new place to go.The staff and drinks are great like always!#bringbacktheoldkittys

Service is very slow. Drinks take 5-15mins to get. Staff is very rude at times. However it is a great place to dance if your into country music. However the DJ will go from country songs to hip hop one right after another. This clears the dance floor every other song. This place brings a huge crowd on the weekends but this is due to the lack of other large country dance bars in the Des Moines Area.

Good sized bar, huge dance floor and some cool drinks (boozy Gummi bears are good) the cover charge is a free will donation. If you like country music and that type of atmosphere, then this the place to be.

I started working here recently and it is an amazing place. The new owners are really committed to making it the premier country hotspot and dance club. They really do care about the patrons and and employees, will not tolerate an employee that isnt a team member with the same goals. Its a great place to work if you want to be part of a real team. Largest and best dance floor in des moines by far and the DJ is great. He even listens to peoples requests. ZD

Show was great. Payed for Red Carpet VIP tickets that guaranteed up front seating. Was in the sixth row. Was also supposed to get a signed t-shirt. Did not happen. Got my picture with the guys.

I love that they dont allow drinks on the dance floor. And if you complain about it your just ignorant. I dont like that they dont mix the music up anymore. You can tell thats affected business. But its still a fun place. Loved the Jello shots!

This is the BEST country bar in town! The dance floor is huge and the staff is great! It’s such a fun place!!I highly recommend them. It’s a great place to see old friends and to make new friends too!!

I did not rate this place yet, I am going tonight 3/20/14 to see for myself. I am a little concerned from what I had been reading, hoping not true.I love country music and an avid Line Dancer from Nashville, TN. This place is a waste of space. New owners have no clue how to run a bar. $5 cover?? Who charges for cover now days? Bathrooms are awful and smelled so bad, we all left. Would not recommend!

Its ok. Very much the country honky tonk aint nothing wrong with that but not my normal scene. I came for the drag show and it was great.

If I could have given this establishment lower then one star, I would have. The reason being is that the security, or the one security I had the displeasure of dealing with, was very unprofessional. He told a young lady she was cut off from drinks and then proceeded to tell her that she needs to leave. I told him he was being unreasonable, in a nice tone, and that set him off apparently. Instead of telling me that I am in turn kicked out as well, he instantly places his hands on me, shoves his fingers hard enough into my bicep and chest to leave bruising, and pushes me out. All of this for saying one sentence to this person. I did not swing at him, spit at him, or act belligerent in any way. Even simply placing a hand on my back and guiding me out would have been fine, but to apply enough force to leave bruising is completely irrational. Its sad that I cannot leave a name, but at least I can let people know that decide to visit this place to think again. An establishment that hires such unprofessional staff is not worth the money.

Never again. Came here because our friends recommenced it. I wasnt impressed. Weak drinks, hardly anyone there and there wasnt a balance of men vs. women. Never saw the owners and the dance floor was empty on a Thursday night at 9. Terrible

Ive know owners and their children, employees past present and probably future, wait staff, door people, bouncers, bartenders, patrons aged and barely legal and each and every one has shown passion, respect, love, friendship and all around good human beings! Class Act place with class Act and will always be#1 in my book!! Even if country music is not your brand you will be treated the same as the guy in Dan Post boots and a Stetson, like youre part of the Miss Kittys fam!

I love Miss Kittys. Its a dance hall Saloon so its known for country music. I always have a blast there and love learning line dances!! I just wish I lived closer to be able to go more often!

Bar is awsome! Great place to hang out and dance with friends. If your looking for a country bar that you want to dance and socialize in that isnt packed to the max were u cant walk like other places in town this is it , decent crowd lots of fun

Too bad that some of the staff are absolutely amazing because this place is horrible. Not even worth the gas money to get there, let alone the fee to get in. If you like over paying for an underserved amount of alcohol, have fun.Edited note: I tried to leave a two weeks notice and was screamed at publicly by the manager, never received an apology, later got banned for leaving a bad review, and then the owner and said manager physically assulted the dj, leaving cuts and bruises all over.

We were invited to watch the Daisy Duke bull riding....it started about an hour late waiting for a party bus....We left while the bus was pulling in!We will never go back!Poor management.

Good atmosphere. Down to earth country bar with a big dance floor, good music collection as well. Played pool a majority of the night as they have 3 pool tables and a dart board as well.

Miss Kittyss is really fun and a great place to relax, drink, and dance. I kind of wish they would bring the mix of music back so it wasnt just a country bar but I know a lot of other people enjoy it doubling down on country.

Miss kittys is a good country bar. The entire bar staff is friendly. Once you walk into ms kittys your greeted by someone that’s friendly checking ids. Then the entire bar and cocktails waitress are friendly. I have been to other venues that are not even close to ms kittys Clive Iowa. The staff and the dj is friendly. I will recommend ms kittys over any country downtown Des Moines iowa bar. Love you guys

Good place to play pool and dance. The only drawback is they cant decide if they are a country bar or a hip hop bar. DJ needs to know more then the 10 songs on repeat.

This business has no respect for the time or money you spend in their establishment. Poor responses on social media (below, included) and no desire to actually respond with any kind of help or consideration.We visited last night for a friends birthday party. (Feb 11, 18) they werent very busy at all which usually for a bar means faster service. We arrived in a Limo with 9-10 people around 9:30pm and we had zero wait to get in the door. That was the only time we didn’t do a lot of waiting….3 Bartenders working who had zero hurry and on more than one occasion helped the person standing behind my wife and I instead of us standing at the bar. It took more than 5 minutes to order a drink let alone actually get it. Then when you get it, a shot is only half full and you’re charged $5 for it. So two shots, with the content of one, $10 and 10 minutes to get. And of course to complain, they walk away before you can say anything.Again we return to the bar before leaving to close our tab and again a guy standing behind us was helped first. I see the gal then punch our drinks out to 17.50, then 4 minutes later she sets our charge slip in front of us which shows my card charged $18. Apparently they charge a 50¢ fee for this… the only bar in town I see do this even over nearby dives with better service. They are either cash only or minimum for a card.So we finish with our friends and chalk it up to a place where we won’t likely go again and I send a message to the Facebook page to let them know our service wasn’t great, our drinks were under-filled and that I was annoyed we were not advised there was a charge for cards until after our card was charged. We did promptly receive a message back (faster, mind you, than it takes one of the Bartenders to get a mixed drink).My message said: Is it normal for you folks to charge a card processing fee on top of drink charges Disappointed in cost of drinks vs quality and service tonight... Likely wont be back.Response: Sorry for your experience. Yes we do charge .50 cents per transaction which is posted on all registers. Hope you understand the cost of doing business is not cheap? Thanks___So really, if it’s too expensive to do business you shouldn’t do business. My small business accepts credit cards with no fee because it’s just good business and I am sure my income is exponentially smaller than theirs charging 5 bucks for a half an ounce of liquor and 5 bucks at the door. Then they LIKE their response to me in our chat session. RUDE.I responded back about our disappointment with the drinks which went unanswered in their first message and that I would be sure to share their responses in my negative reviews. They then responded again saying: Every register has a sign on it sorry you missed it. Wont dispute what I didnt see but our bartenders have over 30 years experience and I trust them. Sorry again.Nothing like telling your customers they are wrong and have no respect for their time or money.

As a dance club that serves alcohol I find it appalling that they don’t serve water unless you pay for overpriced bottles. I witnessed a girl who could barely stand ask for a glass of water and when they said no she just ordered another alcoholic drink instead. I’m surprised more people don’t leave there in an ambulance. I was hosting a bus party that was there so remained sober and when I refused to leave the bar until they gave me a glass of water, the bartender through an empty glass at my head and said “fill it up in the bathroom then”. The owner should be ashamed.

Last time I was there a bouncer accused me of taking a shot out of a test tube some bartender forced in front of me. I tried to explain I picked it up and placed it back completely full, but he was less than understanding and then informed that I would be thrown out if I didnt pay for the drink that I honest to God did not drink. Being unable to leave because I was on a Party Bus that had just recently arrived there, I gave them $5.00 for a drink I never drank, and moved on. Oh, and furthermore the bar was no fun to begin with, the staff was rude the drinks were pricey and the dance floor was dead.

I visited this club for the New year celebration looks like this club is stuck in 90s the music was boring and the lights were too bright this place doesnt fit the description of Nightclub, although its New year there werent many people half of the customers are the people who work there. This place has only CAUCASIAN customers, its time for the club to step up the game or else they will be lost in the times .

Can’t dance on floor with a beverage. Saw a guy get punched and they let the puncher back in after getting thrown out.

Awesome management and staff. Great place to let loose, hone your dancing skills, and make new friends. I highly recommend you check it out.

Went to watch Red Dirt Renegade band, which was great. Waitress and staff was great, and there was a lot of dancing.

Went there last Saturday and it was a great time the drinks were great staff was really nice music and the DJ were perfect I recommend it for everybody me and my wife had a great time

Miss Kittys is back to what she is supposed to be. A country bar that actually plays country. They keep the drinks off the dance floor which seems to be a rare thing these days. Old people like me need a place to dance.

Definitely a lot better. When the new owners started it was all country and didnt really care just listening to all country. I like that they have a variety now.

Best place to go dancing. Have lessons during the week and a good mix of music on the weekends. Drinks prices are fair as well.

Very good service, was super dead mostly because it was a Wednesday night during corona season. Tried learning a line dance, reaffirmed my suspicion that I have no rhythm.

One of the worst draws in town. Dancing is fine but they ripping off customers on drink orders hard

Im about the only place where you can go dancing anymore in the morning area but a little small Des Moines needs a bigger nightclub for country western fans and I think I have solve the problem I think Im going to build one

Dancing is fine. Drinks are some of the most under poured in all of des Moines for new customers.

Play good music. Had plenty of room to move around on the dance floor and off the dance floor. Drinks are reasonable. Had a good time.

Owner is a terrible person. Was extremely rude and arrogant person the way he treats and speaks to customers is unbelievable so rude I do not suggest ever going here
