Ive been a Genesis member for 9 years (was Aspen before) & although new fitness centers continue to open in the area, I stay for the Les Mills fitness classes, variety of mind & body offerings, & the amazing energetic group fitness instructors! I always look forward to being around others to push through a work out & leaving feeling stronger & empowered. The other staff have also always been helpful & friendly. 😊
My favorite place to get a good workout in! Love they have a women’s gym!!! I feel comfortable at this gym more so than other Genesis gyms! Something about this one that makes me feel safe to workout here!!!!
You know, a few months ago I gave this gym a five-star review after getting signed up. After multiple blunders with billing, and the flippant attitude of staff, I am at my wits end. The latest issue (Ive only been present at this gym for 2 months since I travel, and this is my THIRD MAJOR ISSUE) was that my account was supposed to be frozen for a few months while I was out of town. This gym tried to charge me for the months anyway! I told them I put in a freeze request previously, and they still tried to charge me for April because they couldnt find it. I told them Im not paying for it and froze my card and did my OWN INVESTIGATION on my account. I figured it out and did their job for them. Guess what happened? It was an accident on their end, they put down the wrong date for the freeze request, so it was already there. So they were going to charge me for nothing, and more than likely I would not have gotten my money back. STAY AWAY FROM THIS GYM if you want to feel prioritized. I dont know whats up with this place, but its very disorganized and they react to problems rather than solve them. They didnt apologize, no sorrys, no anything. And its been like this since I have signed up in the very few months I have been at this establishment. The workers act like theyre not paid enough to care about the customers issues, except Dylan. Dylan is wonderful and the only right thing about this gym as he does try to help and assist. The rest of the employees put their problems on their customers with little to no regard for their well-being. I am greatly disappointed in this gym, and cannot wait to be able to leave!!! Btw its a $200 cancellation fee, even if the gym does not care about you.
Amazing gym! Staff are friendly, and supportive. Kids love the childcare area. Not to crowded and always get in a good workout.
Genesis Health Clubs Hickman location is amazing and I absolutely love all the classes and/or all the amazing fitness instructors as well. Personally I do both Cardio Dance and/or Cycling with the two best fitness instructors at Genesis Health Clubs Hickman location a.k.a Tony and Emily. Not to mention, a huge shout out to Liz who I also do Simply Stretch with every Thursday night as well. However, even with the amazing classes and/or fitness instructors there are some issues with Genesis Health Clubs Hickman location. For example, the AC isn’t always working properly. And so you sometimes end up cycling in a room that is 87 degrees Fahrenheit. Which isn’t always the most enjoyable thing to deal with especially when you’re already pushing yourself during class and can’t effectively cool yourself down. Without ending up in a huge puddle of sweat. However, last week when this specifically happened, Jen, another amazing fitness instructor brought us down towels that were already soaked in ice cold water and it really made a difference. So while there may be some issues with Genesis Health Clubs Hickman location, 99% of the time it’s great and I absolutely love all the friends I’ve made throughout the years I’ve been there. Lastly, I have attached some photos from last year’s Halloween Cardio Dance Party and/or Cycling Party to truly show you just how fun working out can truly be. So please consider joining Genesis Health Clubs today and join not only a gym but a community of people who will forever change your life for the better.
My experience here unfortunately follows the rest of the other genesis locations. Most of the equipment is funtional, but in poor condition. The large majority of the resistance training equipment is older, whereas it appears most of the cardio equipment is newer. The only positives I can give is that there is actually a good working rower, along with the variety of equipment (the only contributors for the 3 stars)A serious overhaul is needed in the weight lifting department.Notable mention the cracked mirror with no warning labels.
In my opinion, please check and take a look in allThe equipment before making a decision to signa contrat.Unfortunately my partner sign the contract before checking everything in detail. All this equipment in this gym isVERY OLD EQUIPMENTUNCOMFORTABLE EQUIPMENTSOME PARTS IN THE FACILITY INCLUDING THE EQUIPMENT IS VERY DIRTY.Keep in mind! There are a better options than here.
This businesss billing is a NIGHTMARE!! It shouldnt be a difficult concept. My card somehow fell off of my account twice in the year long membership time that I had with them. I provided proof of payment with my credit card statement for 1 month they claimed I owed. I missed 1 payment (which failed to process due to them attempting to charge the card early on the 1st instead of the 15th) & when I went in to cancel my membership (because I went to a new gym) I made up the missed payment, PLUS went ahead and paid my March dues in full. I paid the March dues early on the 11th, which would normally bill on the 15th...& NOW they are claiming that I OWE for March because I didnt give 30 days notice! I PAID MARCH!! Yall save your money, avoid a billing nightmare & go to another gym that is CLEAN, doesnt have missing & nasty stained ceiling tiles & has functional plumbing all the time!!EDIT 4/8/24 - They are so sorry for my billing problems that they decided to THANK ME by CHARGING ME AGAIN!! Run Away from this business!!
Great coaches! Very energetic and care about your progress! Very convenient to have clean indoor courts year round
Great facility.. However, it gets overshadowed by the terrible customer experience. Id rather pay more at a lifetime than get treated like this at any gym. Do better.
This gym has all the potential to be an elite training facility. Their tennis courts seem to get the funding the rest of the building is lacking. The sauna is great, bathrooms clean enough. The gym area is a bit crowded and lacks space, you can’t use the back room for lifting, that’s trainers only or after 7pm(mangers words). Cardio area has a wide variety of machines. It’s neat they have a matted area for wrestling or jujitsu. The reason for the poor review is the building is literally falling apart and the the manager seemed not to care. Ceiling tiles collapse from a leak in the roof. It’s hard to get a towel, the ones I’ve gotten have had red stains(blood?) or burn marks. Staff is hard to locate, I’ve been there 3 times and the water is shut off. The weights are usually jumbled up and unorganized.A building face lift and new manager would go a long way to bring the facility up to the level of other Genesis clubs. One can only rely on the excuse that an upgrade is coming in the future so many times until it is scene as status quo
The people are super nice and very understanding! One time, my phone was dead, and the staff was very kind and let me borrow a charger. 10/10 service!
Assistant manager wrongly informed us on membership perks. No problem, mistakes happen. Asked to cancel on Dec 12th. Never heard back. Asked Head Manager Marques on the 28th to cancel. Pretty rude guy but he promised a call back. Never heard back. Spoke with Ashley at corporate. Never heard back. Spoke with Haley at Corporate who politely helped us cancel. Haley told me Marques was unresponsive to two corporate attempts to contact them as well. Yikes! You decide if that’s the type of people you want to be working out with. Sure wasn’t fun for my family.Update: Head Manager Marques is now calling me, yelling over the phone trying to argue about my review.Corporate, you should review if Marques is the type of person you want on your team representing your brand in our Urbandale community.
I love Genesis. There is so much space and opportunities for all my workouts. Especially their classes are amazing. Their schedule is diverse and always gives me the opportunity to try something new and step out of my comfort zone. The instructors are welcoming and accepting, I always feel comfortable to join classes even without experience.
I usually come in the morning and get a couple miles in walking it’s an easy to get to location and I love having the different gyms in the Des Moines area that I can go to if needed. When I get a chance to I love playing pickle ball in the bubble. Its a tennis court surface, it just doesn’t work well with my work schedule at this time but maybe someday.
Great Experience at Genesis Health Club on HickmanI recently joined Genesis Health Club on Hickman and Im thoroughly impressed. The equipment is modern and well-maintained, and the staff are friendly and professional. They offer a variety of classes suitable for all fitness levels. The gym is always clean, and theres a strong community vibe. Highly recommend for anyone seeking a top-quality gym experience!
I was just signed up for the Genesis membership and Caden has just been awesome!! He was very informative and detailed about the kinds of membership that the gym provides. Definitely raise worthy skills ✨
I enjoyed the Zumba toning class with Jen this morning. It is good for both toning and coordination 😊
I’m currently enrolled in Russ Katz’s Excellent - High Intensity Fitness Program (I try for 4 x week) and Bailey Earl’s Outstanding One-on-one Personal Training session once per week which gives me 5-workouts per week.Never felt better — strong & healthy! Both Russ & Bailey are extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of health & fitness and I feel 100% comfortable with the club’s equipment and learning a ton of new approaches to getting in shape!Tony Renzi - 1/5/2024
Ive had a great experience at Genesis on Hickman. They offer a variety of classes and have a lot of gym equipment. Caden was very welcoming and helped set up a membership for my family.
Love coming here for Body Pump and Step! All the trainers are super nice and absolutely wonderful!
Great gym, atmosphere and people. All the gym equipment u need. Peak hours after work can be busy but rarely am I waiting on equipment. 2 full size basketball courts with hoops on the sides which I enjoy. Tons of tennis courts. Need to look into pickle ball options. Spin classes and other class offerings. Lots of cardio machines. Tvs. Steam room. Kid sitters. Looks like upgrades/renovations are coming soon.
Carrie is an excellent fitness instructor. I enjoy her positive energy. If you want to sweat and build more muscle, you should attend her classes: body pump and cardio. She works you hard but I promise you won’t regret it!
Before you sign up... just dont.I was given a sales pitch and rushed into signing up with promises of a 7 day free trial. The gym manager then gave me the run around and wouldnt return my calls. I was then told after the fact I was locked into a contract which I was not provided a copy of nor did they discuss the 3 day period for which I could get a full refund. I didnt even get my contract copy until I argued with them and they sent it on the last day I could get my refund. Then manager never even tried to contact me until after the 3 day refund period which I wonder if he even knows I called corporate and they let me do the refund through a different gym manager. But all of this is law in Iowa and was not followed. I then had to fight to get a refund even though its illegal not to. They processed it but now corporate keeps giving me the run around about it. They said they have 45 days to refund me in Iowa, but its day 45 and no refund. I have reached out one last time to see if it will be in my account tomorrow. Otherwise I will be giving the Iowa Attorney general a call about them breaking the Consumer rescission, cancellation, and refund rights law 523A.Do yourself a favor and pick a different gym that isnt setup to just provide you with horrible service and milk you for every penny they can. I know Des Moines is lacking, but before you go to the Hickman one check out Anytime. They at least are clear cut and dont hide anything from you.
I’d give zero stars if I could. This place is a disaster. A/C doesn’t work in the summer; heat doesn’t work in the winter. A ton of equipment, but all of it is unbelievably old. You’re not allowed to use the giant CrossFit-style area unless you pay extra for classes. Door to the “women’s gym” has been literally shattered for months—this gender-specific area is an absolute joke, regardless, considering the laughable equipment in there. Email just sent:To whomever it may concern—I would love to understand why I’m continuing to be charged a yearly “enhancement fee” when absolutely zero “enhancements” have been made to any of the Genesis locations in Des Moines throughout the entirety of their overtaking ownership. If I go to a location outside of Iowa, I’m expected to pay an additional $10 for each visit—so I’d really hope my “enhancement fee” goes toward any of those locations. If zero enhancements are being made, what exactly is this additional money being used for? Rod, the ever-dutiful owner, promised to be making changes to Hickman Genesis beginning in April 2019 and nothing happened. They’ve since collected at least 4 years’ worth of these fees from Lord-only-knows-how-many members while making absolutely no changes. The only change I’ve seen is a giant poster being added to the lobby of Hickman to make it appear as though they’re going to make some kind of a change.Genesis has continued to charge this yearly fee since taking over from Aspen, and frankly, it’s pathetic. It was obscene when Aspen did it—considering they NEVER made any “enhancements”—and it’s even more pathetic now that an even larger corporation is doing it and STILL not making any changes to any of the locations. Are you reaping in an additional $42/year from every member, or just those of us that transferred from Aspen?
Like half the gym is cordoned off for trainers and classes only, even when not in use. Just sits there, no use allowed. Friendly staff though.
If you suspend your account they still charge you even thought they tell you in person it will be another price. Poor customer service.
Fantastic Gym with a bunch of space! Never waiting to start a set!
Dylan and Caden are the coolest desk receptionist people ever 🔥🔥🔥 they motivate me to get buff and they are always a pleasure to get greeted by. best gym ever. gains 🔥🔥
Caden was great! Very friendly and explained everything perfectly. Genesis is going to lose a good one!
Just signed up for membership after meeting some of the great staff and attending a class. Great place and good people.
Awesome workout environment and reasonably priced membership. The staff is super friendly.
I like the Management and staff. No thrills gym with good equipment. Not a social club like other gyms in the area.
Tony, Emily, Karl and Linda are amazing. Such great music and so encouraging for spin class. Would rate higher but the bikes are ancient and often broken, the fans dont work and can barely see the clock because its so tiny.
I’ve been training with Dakota Vaughn and the entire experience has been fantastic! His knowledge of the field and commitment to his clients have helped me stay focused on my progress both in and outside of the gym. He’s made it easy for me to develop healthier lifestyle habits such as meal prepping and being more conscious of nutritional value. I would strongly recommend training with Dakota to anybody I know, regardless of physical characteristics or desired result! He has made working out fun for me and I look forward to every session I have with him! To top it all off, the results I’m seeing with him are insane!
A friendly atmosphere can make a huge difference in a gym experience. Its wonderful when the staff and members create a welcoming environment.
I really enjoy the large facility and wide variety of equipment. The employees are also very nice!
DO NOT GET A MEMBERSHIP AT GENESIS HEALTH CLUBS!! I went in to change the person on my membership, I spoke with the person who originally signed me up so I figured there wouldnt be anything to it.Turns out he upgraded with without my knowledge and I didnt realize it until I owed $300 because of some yearly maintenance fee they charge. Not to mention Ive probably been to the gym less than 10 since covid.I could never recommend a business that does shady stuff like that to anyone.
Genesis health club on Mill civics location has welcoming me amazing, specially I would like to share that Shelby has been an excellent fitness advisor with me, her customer skills and personality makes a huge difference between other gym, also the gym has all the nice equipment, bathrooms and other areas clean and ready for us the customers to be use.I highly recommend this gym, very affordable versus the competition and very professional staff as well.Thank you
Front desk staff was great. Morris was helpfully, Friendly and knowledgeable
Probably the least ideal gym in all of des moines. i’ve been to just about every gym once, rock climbing, lifting, swimming, you name it. but this was definitely the worst-The equipment is all super old and falling apart so something is always out of order(the equipment and/or the bathrooms)-there’s very little equipment for how many people actually go there, only like a total of 6-7 benches-half the staff is pretty nice but the other half won’t even acknowledge you when you walk in-the classes are super overpriced for a place that’s not being renovated-bringing a friend in costs 20 dollar a visit with no free passes-and even if you decided to quit on the first of the month you have to stay for two more billing cycles (you quit on september first, your last day will be october 31st) which is insanethe only good part of the gym is the hours and they’re open til 10 for the most partbut if you’re looking for a gym i’d say just go to the y or trail point if you’re on the east side they’re just better for the same price and cheaper classes
Was lied to to get into a membership, of course the deal expires in 48 hours🤣. Was told that their Hickman had Pickleball which is ALL we wanted and inquired about. Signed up for a 7 day pass and was told it would get us into either club. Went today and they tried to charge us for a non-member guess pass. THEN they informed me it would be $35 per hour for the court! Went on to agree since we where already there. Was taken into their old cold dome in which the Pickleball nets are not even set up! We had to set up the Nets ourselves and try to decipher what lines were supposed to be used for pickle ball court as the gentleman couldn’t explain it himself. Needless to say they do not truly have Pickleball and it is not part of your membership.
I have two daughters that have went to clinic for tennis at this location for years The pros do a wonderful job. I would highly recommend tennis at Genesis for any age group. They also offer multiple classes for adults.
Great place to work out! Clean, fun!
I love the tennis opportunities Genesis offers me- Grip and Rip is a blast; private lessons with the knowledgable Mark Blume; and Progressive Doubles, as well as Margarita Mixers set up by Lynette Brown. What a solid tennis staff- arguably the best in the DSM metro!I have added going to stretch with Jenn before Grip and Rip. She hits all the spots a tennis player needs warmed up!
Genesis has been a great gym to get me access to a variety of options for exercise. Have especially enjoyed hiring personal trainers twice a week to learn from and to keep me going.
Good variety of classes. Front desk staff is very friendly. Love my Zumba class with Maddie. Really appreciate the work of the class coordinator, Jen. Excellent barre class in the mornings.
Morris always has positive energy whenever I walk in when he greets. It really gets my tennis session off to a great start!
The instructors are awesome! Make working out fun.
I have been attending spin classes at the Hickman location since before Covid and Tony by far has been the best instructor I’ve had. He always gets the most out of me and plays great tunes!
We are here 3 times a week. My son does tennis and the staff are amazing. I take fitness classes once in awhile and Kristel is amazing!!!
I would say the Hickman location is in need of upgrades. I love the instructors and generally they have all the equipment needed but at least get some more fans at the group exercise room... Yesterday it was like a sauna in there.
I take Garrett’s boot camp class in the morning. He’s a great trainer committed to good form and meeting his clients where they are. Very friendly and welcoming environment. No matter your fitness level this class is for you!
The customer service was terrible. When I came in for the first time I was not given a membership card or number. I was not even offered a tour or welcomed in any way. The attendants seemed very uncomfortable and unprepared to answer customer questions. They were very unhelpful and it left me feeling a little lost since it was my first time here. I just got a very weird vibe from the staff here. The locker rooms were also very dirty. I left immediately. My first time and my last time ever coming here.
Genesis on Hickman is amazing! I specifically enjoy dance fitness on Wednesday’s with Emily S.
Gensis is my favorite health club in town! Best childcare
EXCELLENT GYM W/ EVERYTHING AND GREAT SERVICE- .• Upon driving up I thought “damn this place is busy” and busy gym means waiting for stuff, people walking in inconvenient places, just annoyance all around, etc. Anyways point being the place was PHAT w/ TONS of activities other than lifting. Which was my main concern from my last gym having minimal equipment and more people. (Also paying around the same here as I did my previous gym, and getting FAR BEYOND MORE BENEFITS)•The setup of all the equipment was organized, spacious, conveniently placed.•LOVE LOVE LOVE that they have a mini womens gym too on top of that SO MUCH more I mean c’mon tennis courts, sauna, massage room, classes, kickboxing room, etc.•Lastly, staff is super friendly I love that they greeted every person walking in and out. Now that’s customer service. Specifically would like to shout Marques Rodgers he was super concise, genuine, and helpful.
I am new to the area and am super excited that I found this gym. I couldnt ask for better instructors. They are energetic, knowledgeable and inspiring. I love taking classes and this gym offers many choices and variety. The staff is friendly and they care about you and want to encourage you to meet your fitness goals. I have made lots of friends. I love Genesis Health Club.
Team training provides a great workout!! I have lost 50 lbs over the year with training and with Russ as personal trainer.
Let me start by saying this gym is big, lots of equipment and plenty of room to workout and a mostly good environment but even so equipment needs updated. Id give it a 3.5, but a -1 when it comes to the employee side. Its not a great place to work, especially when they dont pay you for work you did(tried to sort this out but its like they didnt care or that I made a mistake that couldnt be fixed which was I made error on computer system...but still had proof of the sessions I delivered and they still wouldnt correct it, they dont listen to new ideas about classes, and try to get you to work for free and mislead you about pay and benefits. Ive never worked for a place that didnt pay me for work I did on the clock. I even used my own phone once to make calls for them. The management in the fitness department is terrible...and they dont communicate well. They treat the trainers bad in the 2 months I was employed here...not all trainers are treated equally. They do not value trainers. It seems they more care about their bottom line and making a buck... Its honestly a disgrace to the fitness industry. I would actually workout here but save yourself from ever working there. Really dont appreciate the way other people and myself were treated in the time I was there. Very unprofessional and unethical in a very professional business. This is what happens when I was ignored and he acted like it wasnt a big deal...also they dont ask for trainer certificates or updated CPR/AED...its not right Ive worked for gyms in the past that always had my updated certs on file. So Genesis is a great place to workout just not a great place to work in my own experience.
My favorite part about this gym are the cardio dance & Zumba classes! Great variety of times throughout the week to attend that fits your schedule. I especially love all of Emily S.’s Cardio Dance classes-she is always full of energy, positivity, & makes working out fun. Highly recommend 😃
They mentioned on the phone that kids care was open. We went there with our kids. Looks like it was wrong info and it is closed. Not good management. This has happened to us the 2nd time. None of the others have this issue.
Genesis Hickman has a great Group-X program across all exercise activity types. Impossible to rave about any one or two instructors. It is super solid team across the board! Explore.Thank for Tuesday STEP...legs...feel more intelligent!!!Hope this session stays on the schedule forever!
Enjoying a great holiday weekend at the Genesis hosted ITT tournament. Its been fun match-play and connecting with the local tennis network!
Amazing place to workout!! Love all the amenities and the people that work there!
Dirty. Half the place is falling apart. There is leaks all around the facility whenever it rains or snows. Staff isn’t helpful and the managers don’t tell you any information about the membership. Cancelled my membership in the facility and over the phone (whoever I spoke told me they would put “a note for cancellation on my account” which then i received a charge on my account two months after cancellation and i was then told that they don’t do cancellations over the phone. Don’t become a member here. They just want your money.
I tried to put my girlfriend on my membership after being a member for a year and they told me they need to see our marriage certificate.WHAT A JOKE! It was the manager that told us .Definitely don’t recommend this gym for couples that are not “married”. I would put 0 rating if I could.
Staff is super friendly. Smells good inside, not like a gym…… and tons of activities for everyone
Morris and Dylan help keep the place running like none other. Always a great experience coming in. Give them a raise.
I love the size of the club, very user friendly and I dont feel just like a person with a card. The front desk staff recognize people as they come in and it makes it feel like family. Honestly I also love that there are older people there when I workout in the morning - makes it very comfortable and I dont feel out of place. My trainer is knowledgable, creative and makes the workouts fun (sometimes) . It feels like home.
Read the fine print before getting membership here. After signing up for a one year membership with Aspen they auto-enrolled me in an automatic renewal which I did not know about. Ended up moving not too long after that and had a change of bank accounts. Genesis must have ended up taking over Aspen. Now today I received a bill from Genesis stating I have a balance with them for over $160 and that they have been adding to my bill for FIVE MONTHS without any sort of notification. Corporate would not answer their phone. Contacted the gym directly and they claimed that they tried calling and sending letters multiple times. They stated that they were unable to leave a voicemail due to it being full which it is most definitely not since I have been receiving plenty of voicemails from other calls and delete them after I listen to them. My address was forwarded through USPS so any letters they sent absolutely would have been forwarded to me. Manager of the gym stated that there was no corporate for me to deal with and he was the only one I could talk to. He stated that he would not shut down my membership without payment. The only thing he could do was lower the payment to $59.50 and stated that he doesnt deal with notifications and that is all handled by the billing department. Manager continued to refuse to give me any sort of contact information for the billing office he kept referring to or corporate even though he kept repeating he is not part of the billing department so he cannot answer most of my questions. Ended up paying the decreased amount just to get the membership ended so they could not keep adding to the bill and send it to collections like he threatened.Terrible customer service from both gym management and corporate office. Would never recommend anyone go here just due to their failure to be able to communicate and lack of customer service.
Love this place! Marqus made signing up for a membership so easy for us. We were able to workout that day. We enjoy the variety of the machines, and the cleanness of the club. This is a large gym, with many group classes such as yoga. I am really enjoying my experience here.
I really enjoy the variety of fitness classes. The instructors are great and always friendly.
I was a member for over a year back before they were purchased by Genesis. I canceled my membership in summer 2020, and they randomly started charging me again in summer 2021 with no explanation. They also did not return my calls or email and continued to charge me each month. I was forced to have my credit card company block their charges because I couldnt get a hold of them, and I no longer lived in WDM.Only after I blocked their charges did a representative contact me, and now theyre trying to coerce me to pay the blocked fees. Please save yourself the grief and do not become a member here.EDIT on 2022-05-26-------------------------------Since Google Maps does not allow me to reply to the owners response directly, I am editing my original review.I reached out to Genesis again on 2022-05-19 to discuss their response, and they have yet to respond a week later. In particular, the owners response is misleading in several ways. Here are a few clarifying comments:1. I canceled my membership in person in 2020 and did not receive any charges until July 2021. Thus, I am unsure what started back up as normal means in this context since it was over a year after I canceled.2. I didnt notice the restarted monthly charges until November 2021. At that point, I called and sent an email to Genesis on November 6, telling them to stop and reimburse the charges immediately. I did not receive a response.3. Once I noticed Genesis charged me again even after my email, I resorted to blocking charges from them through my credit card company.4. Then, on December 23, I received a phone call from Genesis, mentioning that they tried to charge me, but the charge failed. I explained the situation over the phone and that I canceled both in-person and sent an email in November and received no response. I was never instructed to provide documentation, and from my memory of the conversation, I thought the matter was resolved.5. I hadnt received a phone call, an email, or a mailing from Genesis until an auto-generated email on May 18. Thus, from my perspective, the owner seems to be directly lying about both the December phone call (which Genesis initiated---not me) and the calling and mailing me once a month. (Although I moved in 2020, so it is theoretically possible they were sending mail to my old address that I never received.)In conclusion, my point still stands that you may want to save yourself the grief and avoid membership. If you decide to become a member, I recommend you carefully document your communication with them and closely watch your credit card statements.
Came back here after getting tired of the high rates at lifetime. I was skeptical to come back due to issues with the general manager Marcus and one of there trainers and seeing in the reviews that issues with the GM still existed. I was pleasantly surprised when I came back and didnt have any issues. The lady that manages the front desk, Emily I think, runs a tight ship and knows her stuff. She seems to generally care about her job and helping people. I cant say the same about the General manager from my past experiences. As far as the actual equipment, the gym as a whole is kept up very well. Rarely does equipment break and when it does it doesnt take long to get fixed. In my experience you wont find a gym in the Des Moines area with a better variety of equipment and space. The only thing preventing me from giving higher than 3 stars is experience with the GM. Hopefully the new owners wont tolerate how he treats people and things improve.Update: its 2020 why dont you have adequate Air Conditioning in this facility?
The staff is great! Marcus is friendly and helpful, Greyson is the best pickle ball coach! The girls gym is great for all types of workouts!
I’ve been a member of Genesis on Hickman since February. I left Lifetime and couldn’t be happier. The personal training team, especially Rob, are professional, experienced and have helped me meet and exceed my personal health goals. The club has all the equipment you need and the staff is friendly.
They apparently dont know the difference between an emergency contact list, and a referral. I was put as a family members emergency contact and they keep calling me to try to get me to join. This is HIGHLY unethical and I would bet its illegal as well. If you call me again when its not an actual emergency, I will press harassment charges.
Pretty new to this gym, but so far really enjoy it! Good amount of machines and weights.
We love the staff and kids club! Favorite gym I’ve belonged to overall. Everyone is friendly and the basketball court is our favorite.
Great tennis classes and helping teachers!!
I love body pump and body combat. Carrie and Natalie are wonderful instructors and help keep you motived and encourage you to keep going. Thank you Carrie and Natalie for all your support keep up the great work.
Great gym has so much!
Its not fancy like Lifetime, where I switched from, but a 45lb bar is a 45lb bar no matter where you go. Theres also a lot less sales pressure, which is really nice! Because theres less sales pressure, it feels like the people there actually get to know you - your name, your goals, who you train with and when, etc. There is room for improvement (more squat racks would be really nice!) but on the whole Im more than pleased with my decision to switch, especially because Aspen offers a run group that meets more than once a week for more than just socializing and the sauna is much less chatty!
I joined January 7, 2017. I go every day except Sunday. The gum is always clean. Staff friendly. I dont need to pay Lifetime Fitness $90 per month to lift weights and run on a treadmill. I can pay $25 per month at Aspen. My muscles are growing larger. I am in good shape. Its a gym, not a fancy social club. If you need to look high mucky-muck, join Lifetime Fitness. If you want to get in shape and stay that way, join Aspen.I would give a five star review if they had a rope pull machine.
Always a friendly environment and a variety of machines! Very happy with my gym experience at Genesis!
Great Clean Club!! Marcus the manager personally made sure my membership expectations were met! Cardio Dance is a MUST with Emily! Looking forward to taking many classes this club offers!!
This gym hands down is top in dsm. Dope atmosphere, really friendly staff and helpful! Youll def get ya work in at this gym, plenty of space!!
I recently got a membership here and it’s a amazing space to lift, play basketball, and overall a great gym.
Been a member for 4 years. Nothing new has been added and nothing has been repaired. The roof is constantly leaking water all over the gym anytime it snows or rains. You have to weave ur way around the buckets scattered in the gym collecting roof leaks. The equipment and dumbells don’t even match eachother and some weights even weigh less than they say they do because they are so old and worn. They always say they are going to update their facility but it never actually happens. Half the time the staff isn’t even paying attention to who comes into their building so having a membership is quite irrelevant. Half the stuff is broken or on the verge of breaking. Bathroom smells of mold and musk. The gym had raised there monthly membership fees from 10$ to 40$ Since genesis bought the building, however even paying 4x more than aspen was you get nothing new and no different perks. Basketball courts are run down, the rims are all uneven and different heights. And numerous items have been taken from me in the weight room and basketball courts
Great classes. Great instructors!
Got the good old bait and switch from Aspen on Hickman Road....signed up with the general manager and was told i can cancel at anytime with no fee...I switched to a fitness center closer to home and a week after canceling my membership and being told there will be no late fee, I receive a call saying I am in a contract until January 2020.....Before you think about signing up at Aspen, stop that thought and sign up somewhere else. Thank you for lying and robbing me of 6 months of membership fees....
Ive been going to Aspen for about 7 years and I love it. They offer tons of classes and have a huge weight room and cardio room. Another great thing they have is a womens gym which has a good amount of equipment. If youre looking for a good quality, reasonably priced gym this is the place to go!
Please check the Better Business Bureau before joining. This club has hunderds of complaints. Also, note that they were sued by the Kansas State Attorney General due to their treatment of consumers. Quite possibly the worst health club Ive ever been a member. I canceled my membership a year ago after paying for 2 yrs upfront. At the end of the 2 yrs I started getting billed again. I went in to find out why and Marcus, the manager of the Hickman location, just told me thats their policy and I couldnt have possibly canceled my membership then. I just wanted the membership to end to signed another form and canceled then IN FRONT of Marcus. Today....a month later.....I got billed on my credit card again and called Marcus who told me that is just their policy. That isnt even an explanation. DO NOT join here. It is worth it to pay more and go elsewhere. And if you dont believe me....look at the last 5-7 reviews.....they are all negative.I WANTED TO UPDATE MY REVIEW……..I was contacted by Genesis today 2/24/22 after cancelling my membership months ago two different times. They wanted “updated billing” information. I explained to the man calling I cancelled my membership months ago. He told me my account had been flagged delinquent and I had already been sent to collections. Why would I even be charged? I’ve signed cancellation forms and even talked to Markus personally and then on the phone again after they charged me the second month after my cancellation. Seriously? How do you make these people go away????? I just submitted a complaint to the state attorney general’s office for them to look into it. I would suggest anyone else that is having a similar problem do the same which can be easily done on-line at iowaattorneygeneral.gov.
The best part about this place is the opening staff Monday-Wednesday. Very friendly and welcomes everyone by name. Karen is such a sweetheart. The problem is that equipment is often broken for extended periods of time. They limit the availability for you to clean your own equipment as there is two paper towel dispensers between the two main gyms in the building and the cleaning solution is often missing. They do this to mitigate costs and I believe at the risk of their staff and club members becoming sick. They have recently posted signs to wash hands but dont provide paper towels in the mens locker room/bathroom. the Shower/sauna area needs some attention as it appears to not been cleaned/repaired in years. The grout between the tiles is either missing or is growing mold. broken/missing tiles should be replaced as soon as possible.I feel that these problems need to be addressed prior to the things that the genesis health clubs website says it provides, for example free towel service. it appears that theyre still on contract with the prior vendor and not providing its members that towel service for the foreseeable future.Once any of these things change Ill be the first to update this review.
Do not join this health club. Branching off of Codys review, their policy is a vague excuse as to why they continually charge their members each month without a real explanation and how they plan to make as much money as possible with no care for their members. I asked how to cancel my membership as I was leaving the state and was told to call the membership department. I called after I moved and was told that I needed to cancel in person... After three months of being out of state I was finally able to cancel in person and was told that I would be charged again for the following month per their policy with no further explanation. The staff member that told me this wouldnt answer why or apologize that I was lied to months before, only that that is their policy.
Working with Garrett McFarland I have seen a significant increase in my technique and amount of my lifts in just a short period of time. I’m excited to continue my success working with him.
Amazing gym with great cycling and yoga/pilates classes! Great team with awesome facilities! Worth the money for sure!
I have been at the Hickman Genesis for about a year now and have loved my experience the staff has been very welcoming and inviting the Womens Gym makes me feel safer and they connected me with my trainer Alex who has been a huge help in making me feel comfortable in the gym so that I actually use my membership.
Apparently when Golds Gym closed they automatically switched over my membership to Genesis without notifying me. Ive never stepped foot in the place and have been getting charged for the past 16 months and they refuse to give me a refund. The woman I talked to even admitted that it didnt make any sense but she still wouldnt help. Even if the gym is nice the ethics of the people that run the place are horrible and Id stay far away.
This gym is great! We are in Des Moines for a month on business and Marqus welcomed us with all the info we needed and gave us a great 1 month package. Our interactions with Marqus and the rest of the staff have been outstanding. We feel safe with the coronavirus precautions and the equipment is all top notch.
I was told I had a 12 month contract for 10 bucks a month.I paid the full 12 months without canceling. This month , the 13th month I noticed I was charged over 50 dollars.I haven’t visited the gym in over 6 months probably more, I was fulfilling my agreement . I called to politely ask for my money to be returned and I was told the guy who handles that wasn’t in, my number and email was taken. I got no call , so I called back and finally got ahold of Marcus.Beyond rude, bullied me into feeling like I shouldn’t dare ask for money back. I explained I agreed to 10 bucks a month for 12 months. Not 51.89 he then brings up my membership from 2013 I previously had and I explained I was nervous coming back to aspen after that 201: experience, I was promised 10 dollars a month and no hidden fees . Gave them a second shot and I’m regretting it.You can go to life time for $100 bucks.. $48 dollars more than aspen where the gym doesn’t smell like mold, the kids club has staff the actually watches the kids, a pool, clean locker rooms. Not to mention a variety of updated equipment and staff.I asked again for them to return my money and Marcus refuses because I didn’t cancel. As you guys can read from a lot of the other 1 star reviews, canceling with this is nearly close to impossible. They tell you that you have to speak to this person or that person and they’re never in , or you leave a message for you request and nobody ever gets to it.Do NOT sign with ASPEN. Both times for me it’s been living hell to get out of a membership and after they surprise you with hidden cost they skip in you are basically paying the same price you would at an Elite gym at higher standards than Aspen has. Don’t waste your money or time.
Upon signing up, I informed them of me moving cities in a year before starting my membership. I called before I moved about cancelling had to leave a message because I had called before the person handling my membership came into the gym. Every time I called this place it was around 9 am. Regular business hours. The said person never reached out to me so I called again and again. I moved back to school and I got charged an additional two months because they never told me you have to cancel your membership in person!!! The receptionist could have told me that when I said “I need to speak with xxxxxxxx about canceling my membership.” They don’t do reimbursements!!!!!
Put my membership on hold with the understanding I would initiate when I got back into town. They started charging me again and told me I had to cancel in person when I wasnt in town for months. I got charged 2 extra months with no refund after NUMEROUS emails and phone calls. Horrible customer service and communication. Wouldnt recommend at all.
I went here with a friend to try out the place. At first it seemed promising given that its cheaper than some work out places and upon first glance the facilities looked decent. Then, the horror struck when I went into the locker rooms and was appalled by the lack of cleanliness. The shower tiles have excessive mildew on them (if the shower had all the tiles still in tact) and the ceiling looks to have mold growing on it.Upon leaving I was pressured into joining the gym by a staff member and given their contact information if I changed my mind after repeatedly saying I wasnt interested in joining after seeing the inside of the locker rooms.
Friendly staff, false advertising saying you have access to all gyms. I was a Aspen member before they were acquired. I tried to go to the Hickman gym from West Glenn but was told I’d have to upgrade to their more expensive package to go there. All they care about is money and not taking care of their members!UPDATE: I reached out to their corporate person, ended up being routed to 2 other people. Nobody tried to resolve my issue and basically encouraged me to cancel my membership. This review started off at 2 stars, now it’s a 1 Star. I regret there’s no 0 option.
I think you have some great employees. However, the one ice machine has been broken for months. The steam room has been broken down for weeks. The parking lot has pot holes that could swallow a Suburban. A shiny new sign doesn’t make up for the total state of disrepair. Take care of the basics or your clients will just talk with their feet. I’m actually trying to help here.
Was a lot of help today with the walk through and getting me singed up was fast and easy.
Really nice vibes and not crowded, probably the best public gym in the dsm area
Go to BBB.org and search for Genesis Health Clubs to see 158 complaints in the last year similar to mine. You will also find that Genesis Health Clubs is not BBB accredited. We purchased a block of personal training sessions this summer. The trainer we hired for his expertise and knowledge of training young athletes was 20 mins late to the first session and a no show to the second session. Our request for a refund was repeatedly denied with the only option offered was to work with a different trainer. That was not an acceptable option.Do not hand over your money to this company without understanding who you are dealing with.
I attend the 530a Upper body strength class followed by the 6am Rock Bottom class on Tuesday and Thursday. Kit is a great instructor!! Great music, funny, keeps inspiring us to get 💪!! Excellent class!
3 words; Ten Dollar Membership. The price is right for an expansive fitness center featuring free weights, workout equipment, basketball vourts, tennis courts (additional fees), fully equipped locker rooms, tanning, and group fitness classes including martial arts, boot camp, and more. This place has something for every fitness level and interest.Parking can get tight during peak hours, but this place is huge and accommodates a lot of people. Its easily the best value, and best equipped gym in town.
Great gym lots of space to play tennis if you play tennis and great steam room!
Great variety of exercise equipment and classes. Personal trainers are very personable and ready to assist. Locker rooms, basketball and tennis courts. Kids club and a nursery with very friendly staff that my daughter loves to go see.
Love the gym. Great facility. But come on guys, blocking off the Tae Kwon Do studio for classes only and being under surveillance is a little much. Whoever is in control of that space is a little possesive.I know people that love using that space, when no classes are being held of course, myself included. It actually was one thing that made me choose Aspen over everything else. Bold move on your part. I just hope you dont put quarter machines in the shower next. 😂
Love the gym. It would be nice if the Air conditioner workedJennifer is the friendliest!
I was a member of this gym for 30 years and disappointed that new membership rates were being offered for far less than what I had been paying. Received a nastygram in the mail that my credit card had expired. Personally paid them a visit 2 ask for a waiver of 3 months prior high rates in exchange for renewal at a lower rate and was declined. Their membership director not very accommodating. He won the battle but lost the war. Guess Ill go somewhere else
I gave three stars only because there are some good teachers. If I was rating the teachers they would get four or five stars. The club itself would get one star. The building is in sad shape at Hickman location. Alot of water damage. The club smelled really bad last time. The class sizes have decreased, so less crowded. Probably due to fewer memberships. I stay due to locations only. The Merle Hay location is ok, nothing special, and has a close proximity to work, and I go to Hickman some. When Genesis purchased Aspen, communication was poor regarding which clubs were allowed on certain memberships. Whatever. When I no longer work where I do, will drop this membership.
Friendly Staff, Indoor Tennis. Spacious work out club, variety of machines and weights, training facility, indoor Baskbetball courts, tumbling and classes. Remodel coming in 2024
Keeping this vague to protect a friend.Specifically regarding the girl at the front desk, and the GM, Marques. Genesis shouldnt advertise/offer services that their staff have no idea how to set up, and then refuse to ask how to do it properly. On top of that, Marques has zero follow through on things he says he will do, and then isnt around when he tells you to come in to discuss the issue.Theres clearly little to no communication between staff and management, or with members, and their contracts are pretty sketchy. This gym is cheap for a reason. Id recommend spending a bit more for better service and facilities.
Update, cancelling immediately! See details in new review, posting soon. ********Been a member for 20 years, these people have never once asked me to update my home address or phone number or email, I can 100% assure you they dont have any of this information accurate in their system. I dont get any benefits or appreciation or rewards that a brand new member cant get also. Youre just a number, they will gladly take your money. Considering cancelling, they just arent competitive with all the options available at other fitness centers.
Giving 1 star because I can’t give zero. Terrible customer service from the GM Marcus. I’ve never met a GM who can’t fix a problem “because he didn’t work there when it started”. Asked to speak to his boss and he said he doesn’t answer to anyone. Left a message with the front desk girl to have his boss, the owner, call me and never got a call. Clearly they only care about money and could care less about the happiness of their customers. Would never recommend this place to anyone.
I moved out of state but I was still being charged even though I am thousand miles away. I was in town in April 2019 and then they made me pay from December till April ok fine I paid and left Iowa and told them to CANCEL my membership. I paid whichcer I supposedly owed them. Fine! But then I was getting charged again monthly. I flew back to Des Moines again. In July and told what’s going on. I told the guy at the receptionto CANCELmy membership (in April’19) didn’t put a note because it was around 7PM despite I never used my card the log activities showed my last log in was way back in November 2018 they still charged. I had to pay again until End of August and now finally I have a paper saying that my membership is cancelled and this guy goes U can keep coming until end of August. He didn’t listen or tried to understand that I already cancelled and it was not my fault that someone forgot to cancel my membership. And there was this guy Markus I think. Very ignorant guy. Rude and careless. I am surprised how he got his job. Instead of getting me a refund they charged me, didn’t treat me like a valued customer and acted like I am cheap it’s only $$ and not a big deal. I asked who is their GM so I could explain the situation and maybe get a refund or something or at least they should of apologized and I would be ok with it. But no! They acted like Markus is big boss there and he does give a damn about anything. Very disappointed! Before you sign up to that location pls re-consider your Other options. 👎👎👎
Amazing gym with high quality equipment, and amazing air conditioning.
Offers a ton of options for the price. Sometimes however the gym area doesnt seem to get cleaned well. Sometimes equipment could be serviced or replaced sooner, but recent upgrades make it pretty good. Basketball courts are a big plus.
Good luck getting out of your contract here; I quit going and quit paying after they took over for Aspen and they continue calling to collect membership payment. They refuse to let me cancel my membership over the phone, claiming that I must do it in person. Sad!
Caden deserves a huge raise. Very helpful, listened and answered all my questions.
I started going to the SE 14th location 14 years ago, stopped while at college and resumed once back from college and working in the area - I always loved the SE 14th location. I moved to West Des Moines and started going to the Hickman location a month ago and had a terrible experience with them today and quit my membership and moved over to Life Time Fitness. I had the $25 membership at Aspen that allowed me to bring a guest. I signed my wife up for a group training session for $200 that she has been attending for the past month. Today, I had to stay late at work to get a client some requested work and told my wife to go ahead and go the gym without me so that she could make her group training session (she loves her trainer, Kristen, so we have nothing but great things to say about her). I received a call from my wife letting me know that she wasnt allowed to go to her class because she was a guest and I needed to be there. I explained the situation to multiple workers at the Aspen on Hickman and asked that they look up my account to verify that I have guest privileges and asked them to please let her attend her class and assured them that I would be there. They refused to make an exception, as did one of the managers there, even after explaining that we always go there together. Additionally, I know the people at the front desk have seen us come in together before, so they knew that we play by the rules and that this was a one-time exception that they would be making. When I finally got to the gym (45 minutes into the class that my wife missed, with her waiting the entire time), they told me that she wasnt even supposed to be able to take the class as a guest in the first place, and they made it sound as if this was my oversight instead of theirs and told me theyd have to get approval from a manager for her to finish out the classes Id paid $200 for (Daniel - a manager - said hed follow up with me). I understand that there are policies, but Ive seen McDonalds workers give free food to an unhappy customer that has been waiting 30 minutes for their food without manager approval (thats against policy) - that customer was happy and returned, Id bet my bottom dollar. I wasnt asking someone to let me peak into a TOP SECRET room at the Pentagon; I was asking simply for my wife to be able to attend a class that I paid for without me being there ONE time - Ive been there to check her in the other 20 sessions prior. It is completely beyond me how Aspen spat in my face after having given them my money for probably ten years (my dad, sister and wife as well) in total. PLEASE empower your employees to make decisions like one-time exceptions for situations like mine today, because they will arise. Hopefully the Hickman Aspen figures out how to give customer service and trains their employees to put their customers first. Im willing to pay 6 times as much a month at Life Time (one does get better equipment and facilities, but I dont view it as worth it) and spend a good 15 minutes writing this review to voice my dissatisfaction - call me stupid, but I refuse to give my money to an institution that doesnt value me as a customer. I guess sometimes you get what you pay for.
Nice gym, great service.
The staff is great and always welcoming. Plenty of equipment to use and its pretty clean. Enough towels to use along with sanitizer sprays!
Great place to work out. Very clean. Friendly staff. Would defiabtly recomend. Personal trainers are amazing. Would recomend!
Good gymn. Good people and exceptional staff
I used to belong to Golds gym that went out of business in March. Apparently, Genesis bought them out. Without my permission, Genesis started charging me for monthly membership. I was not contacted at all. I have been calling Genesis for weeks and leaving messages in the business department to stop and refund my money. I have left all my details on the phone message. No one has gotten back to me and they continue to charge me. I guess I will have to contact the attorney general for assistance. Very poor business conduct.
Tremendous value. I can also reserve a court to play pickleball or tennis. The gym is good and occasionally I play some basketball too. My wife and daughter, like the women’s only workout room.
Great place to workout! I love the atmosphere!
The best gym in town guy with the mustache at front desk is awesome
Theives and liars! I signed up for the $10/mo membership but 4 months later I was charged $51.89. I called to inquire about the charges and was told that I agreed to a $40 maintenance fee. The person I spoke to was very condescending and rude. I never would have joined if I had been told about a maintenance fee. When I asked how to cancel my membership, he told me that I could go to any Aspen location and cancel. So I immediately went to the closest location (Ankeny) only to be told that they couldnt process my cancelation because I joined at another location. So I will be going to the Hickman location tomorrow to cancel. I really cant believe how poorly they treat their paying customers! This place is the scammy gym that youve heard about. They only exist to cheat people out of their hard earned money.
Have been attending this club for 12 years and have always enjoyed my time. Great membership pricing and well-kept facility. Highly recommend.
Scam. They dont disclose all the charges before charging you. Legally a business has to disclose all details verbally or in a written agreement. The person called Jassie signed me up for membership. When I questioned she said that she made a mistake and forgot to tell me abt all the charges so I told her to cancel my membership and just give me a refund. She told me she cant and that I need to talk to some other guy called Dan. I looked over to the other guy at the desk bcoz he seemed nicer and was hoping he could help me out But he didnt. She yelled at me for no reason it was unprofessional and bad attitude. She also failed to mention maintenance charges after 90 days. Legally a business has to disclose all details verbally or in a written agreement. I wanted to move to Aspen due to lower cost but the experience was terrible. She made me angry and put in a bad mood. Stay away from Aspen!!!Useful Tip: A good sales person is one who is nice and careful with words to a customer and is able to smoothly get money out of a customer in a nice way. Certain baseless biased statements can be taken as prejudice and can be taken the wrong way by an objective person. Watch what you say going forward otherwise I promise you someone will sue you in the near future. Lifetime fitness is expensive but honest and has great manners. Stay away from Aspen!!!
I have mixed reviews about Aspen Athletic Club. for just working out its a good place to go its rather cheap and has a good amount of equipment. Our problem was with Taekwondo. Master Jack was rarely there and there were times when there was no teacher there at all without warning. So after we signed a six-month contract for Taekwondo that cost $100 a month which is more than Farrells or any other Taekwondo place we researched we were assured that our contract was cancelled and we would no longer be charged. this was not true as we just received another $110 charge.
Great gym and community. Excellent basketball courts and AC
Large weight room. No wait time. Friendly staff. Plenty of equipment. Lots of lockers. All equipment spaced out. Basically everything that lifetime and anytime fitness is not. And DEFINITELY better than Orange Theory Fitness. That place is a joke.
Great place to work out! Tanning services are great, too.
Use the basketball gym a lot. Great experience every time I go
Marques went out of his way to help me understand my new membership and I appreciate his extra care and attention to detail. Dan was great in helping me sign up too!
Terrible parking experience. Mostly tennis courts inside with a grim prison-looking hallway and locker rooms. Just a weird vibe. If possible, make the trip down to Mill Civic instead.
Great gym really good lifting area and basketball court
Large Gym facility that offers a wide variety of fitness options. Love the group fitness classes. Please note you must use the app to register for the classes as spaces are limited due to social distancing.
A lot to offer. Huge weight room and cardio room. 2 basketball courts, steam room and kids club that has a basketball hoop and tunnels. My kid loves it. They also have a lot of indoor tennis courts but I think they cost extra. Very reasonably priced for a membership.
I called customer service to cancel membership, they stated they would pass it on, but never did. Also wasnt told you have to go in a give a 30 day notice to cancel.
I been enjoying this for a couple of months now the gym is very spacious and staff is very nice
Good pricing and great service, Caden helped me out and was very helpful.
They sold us two passes for 20 pickleball plays. The following week they started shutting down 3 of the 6 courts to host a beginner pickleball clinic during the busiest times. They could have done this off hours, but they chose to take away play time for paying customers.
I was member off and on for 10 years. I got a six month job out of state. It costs me more to cancel my Aspen membership then my cell phone contract. I was going to rejoin when I moved back. I will not now.
Big Gym...love the exec area & womens! tend to get bothered by personal trainers only at this gym location. It makes it uncomfortable & usually pulls me out of focus! I normally go to another location for awhile after.
Caden is friendly and the customer service is great
Been lifting here for 2 years! Great environment
Great place to workout out staff are very helpful. Best gym I’ve been at they have everything you need.
0/5 stars....Was the worst experience I have ever had with a gym, i tried to redeem a groupon and they refused to let me use said groupon here. The reason they gave me was because you can not have previously been a member and try to redeem said groupon here even though no where in the fine print or regulations is this stated anywhere. Talked to the manager at the Hickman road location whose name is Marcus and was completely and utterly rude, would not allow me to talk what so ever, lied about pricing, and was using a very inappropriate tone when addressing me. “Stated that it isn’t his problem”, Then when I asked to talk to his GM or someone up he refused to give me his name or number. The way Marcus treated me was absolutely wrong and it is also wrong how he wouldn’t give me the GM’s name or number, ultimately shows that he was in the wrong and that is why he wouldn’t give me that information. Marcus needs to be talked to and addressed about the way he deals with customers
They lock you into a contract for a year min, there is a min $150 cancellation fee. And they will never inform you of this. I highly recommend you stay as far away from this place as possible
Worst service of all time from the so called manager marcus.
Great staff ! This gym has everything you need for your fitness needs. Met a lot of great people while working out here 👍
I come here and workout 4 days a week and the gym is very beneficial in helping me improve my self and the equipment
Awesome gym! First time there and we were greater and given a tour of the place! You can work out at your own pace or get a trainer!
Its a good gym of how lot of good memories basketball camps my furry first fitness trainer was their great basketball courts they had that kids area for the Kids Daycare thing lot of memories there when I was a kid too close to a teenager I would recommend it as a gym I really would
Prices are reasonable and a great place to lift. A few downsides: No Pool at this location. Mens locker rooms leave a lot to be desired. However for the price its a great place to work out.
This is one of the worse places I have ever been...the way the company has treated me has been extremely horrible. I felt like because of my skin color they did what they did to me.how do you banned someone because they refuse to pay a higher memebership fee. Then how can you tell me that I can rejoin but I need to pay a whole year in advance. It’s sickening to think an organization would act in such away towards a person....i will never forget my experience with Aspen
Was paying for two memberships, me and my boyfriend. He hadnt gone in a while and they switched the account to his sisters name. The card is in my name. Did not update any other information. Did not remove the billing information and continued to charge me. Now theyre taking me in circles between Merle hay and Hickman and saying I cant be refunded.
I like to workout here because is a really nice place, people are nice, front desk the best.
Madi B. is such a fun instructor! I always have the best time in her Zumba class and leave smiling and soaked in sweat!
It is a great place the tennis courts are awesome, Morris is for sure the best manager
It would be nice if the employees /trainers would slow down in the parking lot. Today one of the trainers were flying through the parking lot and almost struck my fiancé and I. Figured it was an customer until noticing it was a trainer.
Gym environment is always a nice and so many options of different machines.
Tennis Department is AWESOME!
It was my first time at this gym. I used to go to West Glenn. The people here seem pretty friendly so far. I just moved here from San Diego- Nice gym
Love this gym. Rates are low compared to nearly anywhere else and they have 2 full-size basketball courts. Lots of tennis courts too, if you like Tennis.
I’ve been apart of Genesis for years I love the Hickman location
A great place to go everyone is nice really like everyone there and the equipment
Scam artists. They will tell you you’re signing up for a monthly membership and then fill out paperwork for a year long contract after you leave. Then tell you there is nothing they can do to help you. Pathetic, unprofessional, and shortsighted business practices.
Can’t choose between Josh and sara. They are both great instructors and lots of fun now I need to go. Send.
Don’t go to this gym. People are pirates. Offer a month to month membership which is a lie because you have to pay for an extra month after you cancel.
Lots of classes to chooses from. A good variety of equipment, in good working condition. My boys love the kids club/daycare that is available. The staff is very friendly!
Marques and his staff is very helpful. Lots of weight and cardio equipment, basketball court, tennis court…. A lot to offer for cheap prices!
I love all of the programs they offer! Especially tennis!
Too hot and strang smell all over.. you have to block your noise to enter locker room if you care to be clean..loud music... too too too old equipments and most either out date or not standard.. good for some people to chill not serious exercise
The staff here pressures you to sign up, runs whatever promotions they feel like from a day to day basis which can affect your price and are totally unprofessional. Not worth it. Find another gym
Dance Cardio with Emily is the best! She has the kindest soul & positive energy that always brightens my day! ☀️❤️
The music in the main weight room is so loud you can’t even hear your own music. The music does not have to be so loud you can’t even have a conversation. This has been an issue for a while and a number of complaints made.
Great, but older facility. They have tennis courts, basketball courts, and lots of areas for working out. Memberships are just an okay price. Overall pretty nice place.
Best place to workout hand down!! Great staff and even a better environment!!
I went in to cancel my membership, which went fine. Months later Im still getting calls that my payment isnt going through and when I call back or email I either cant be helped or my email is ignored.
Dylan did a great getting people signed up
Gym has nice staff, and good equipment, Sharon needs a raise.
Club management will charge you an extra month once you try and cancel because it takes 10 days to stop your payment between the next billing day. Bunch of crooks, save your money and go to a more ethical place.
The gym is always clean and tidy, and the tennis courts keep me busy.
I love the atmosphere of the gym and the people inside it push others to get better
