El Rancho served our Mother’s funeral dinner and the food was excellent! Our guests from out of town loved it The owners and staff are kind and did a great job with our dinner! Thank you so much.

Simply the best Mexican food restaurant for 1,000 square miles.No wonder they can exist on being open only from 11am - 2 pm daily and add dinner on Thursday and Friday from 5 pm - 8 pm.My friends from Trinidad, born and raised here, said that their parents used to come here to dance and party in the 1940s and 1950s. The roots go deep here. Within 15 minutes of the 11 am opening, the restaurant was packed with locals and many folks who met their relatives or friends unexpectedly. Its that kind of legacy establishment.

I think that this one of the best Mexican restaurants here in Trinidad the only thing keeping them from being the best is the green chili it doesn’t have any taste and there isn’t any pork or beef in it. It’s pretty spicy which is the only thing I like about it.I never tasted the red so can’t tell you anything about that. I worked in Colorado Springs at the el sombrero on Nevada I was the head cook there when I first started there there green chili was like this place no flavor no meat no spice so I asked the owner if I could make him a little pan of green chili and he loved and ever since then. I made the green chili for that place for years until I left so yeah if the el rancho Wants a different green Chile I would love to make them my Chile to sample for them selves.

Fantastic food and service! Thank you Marissa and Gina! We visited from Florida which has little to no good Mexican food. At the El Rancho its awesome authentic homemade Mexican food! We will be back!!

What Mexican restaurant doesn’t have guacamole? (Or a bar with no white wines)? While our server was attentive, the wait time for truly awful food was too long. The salsa tasted like it come from a can, the “chips” were fried something; definitely not corn. My chili relleno looked more like a big eggroll. I could go on about the dried up crunchy ground beef in my husband’s taco…we left most of this “food” on the table.Hopefully there are other “real” Mexican restaurants to try on our next stay in Trinidad…

Decent food but positively absurd hours. And even if they are open, they dont answer the phone for take out orders. We called for an hour straight and nobody bothered to answer.

So this place is really cute on the outside and it makes you feel like you are at an actual ranch but the food is not that good they give you frozen fries with zero seasoning and it is very expensive

So this is my go to Mexican restaurant in Trinidad Colorado... they are always busy.. but they get to you fairly quickly. The food is not pre prep so they cook it all when you order so make sure and go with enough time. Love the service they are there on the point of your entry and theyre on the point of your exit. If you are ever in the vicinity please please do visit them. They only serve lunch on certain days but on Friday and Saturday they serve dinner as well. Enjoy!!!

I sent a dish back for the second time ever in my life. Cheese quesadilla. Cheese barely melted, tortilla not crispy. Like it had been microwaved? Beans and rice had an odd flavor. This Mexican restaurant does not serve guacamole. Waitress did not charge me for it no questions asked when I told her I didnt like it. Be prepared to assist elderly or disabled members of your party to the entrance, not handicap friendly.

The food here is exceptional. Gina and her staff take pride in every dish and the taste is delicious. Authentic Mexican food is hard to come by and this restaurant nailed it! We travel through Trinidad several times a year and this is one of our must stops.The review listed below from the out of town table is completely inaccurate. My family just so happened to be in here on the same evening ( a very busy night) and this women was flat out rude and demanding. The poor staff had to deal with more than I could have. For the food being so bad in her opinion, they all ate more than half of their plates. She refused to pay and made a huge scene. I believe she was just looking for a free meal. This is a small family owned business who work their tales off and provide this small town with wonderful food. It is hard enough during this time for small business to survive but then to walk into a place of business and cause a disruption to this extent is sad and uncalled for. If you want Gorden Ramsey go to Las Vegas and stay out of Trinidad because you do not belong here.Please keep in mind small business is trying to survive right now and it is extremely hard to find people to work so be a little kinder and patient when eating out. They are all doing the best they can!

Green Chile cheese enchiladas are excellent, the taco shells are between hard and soft and delectable. Sopapillas are also a great mix of crispy/chewy.

My family have been coming to the El Rancho Restaurant for quite some time, food is always fantastic, reminds me of my Moms cooking. Service is great, the staff is always friendly. Meal portions are very generous and served warm.

Hade the stuff sopaipilla and I asked for it smothered in green chili and it came back in a white sauce with green specs ….that’s not what I know green chili to look like

Its an old place (building) lots to look at, the staff is super friendly and the food was really good. But do yourself and the staff a favor, dont come in at 10 til 8 hoping to be served. They close at 8. We arrived just about 7 and had plenty of time to order eat and relax, not rushed at all.

Never been to Trinidad so we had no idea where to eat. This place was pretty flavorles. Luke warm food which surprised me bc they say fresh, chips and tea taste like it was from yesterday. The fries at the bottom of the chili fries were cold again crazy for fresh cooked. Save your money 💰 I should add that our elderly mother also fell in the dining room. We stayed and ordered food when we all really wanted to leave. It wasnt busy at all we were the second table that was set. My family nor I were ever rude. We paid for our drinks and left a tip for the waitress. I sent my food back after the first flavorless COLD bite. We still joke about this place when we come through on our way to Colorado several times a year.

I came here in July because it was very close to the hotel I was staying at. I was just hungry, looking for a good dinner. I didnt know what a real treat I was in for. I havent been able to stop thinking about the sopapillas since...Best I ever had. Dont come in here in a rush. Its slow food at its finest. Your patience will pay off.

I was there for a graduation reception, but the food was great! Green enchiladas were crazy hot! Margaritas were strong. Loved the beans and Spanish rice. Will go again, just for a nice Mexican dinner and a cold drink!

The food has always been good here.Reasonable prices considering inflation.We will continue to visit here for lunch when we come to town to shop.

They never answer there phone for people to place orders to go and pick upi would love to try there food but they just dont answer so I never get to try there food always have to order elsewhere since they dont

My husband and I love this place we go as often as we can. We love that spicy green chile sauce on everything! The chile rellenos are to die for and the service is great! I highly recommend going here.

I usually love this place, but service and food has degraded. Took over an hour to get our food, and my chimichangas were terrible.

They don’t give you a plastic fork or spoon with your to-go order as if they expect you to eat your enchiladas with your hands. Bring your own silverware if you order carry out
