Sen Mei Massage

Out of my many massages in life, this has by far been the very best. My husband and I got a couples massage for 90 minutes. Our therapists used the most amazing techniques, using their whole bodies to apply weight, crawl across, and stretch our back and glute muscles. They used hot stones and bamboo to smooth out knots, hot oil to work out tension, and combined this with stretches, chops, and finger pops. The room was clean with a nice ambiance and the staff were super professional. I cant imagine ever going anywhere else now.

I have serious doubts about the legitimacy / legality of this massage establishment. This was a weird massage experience, to say the very least. We actually came as a group of 5 and had made reservations ahead of time. We all had a strange experience, but it was only as we talked about it in more detail later that we realized... This was extremely problematic.Despite having confirmed our reservation a few hours beforehand, they were not ready for us when we arrived. As rooms were prepared one-by-one, we went to our various experiences. A legit massage business should provide a sheet/blanket for you to slip under and cover up after undressing. My room did not have anything to cover with. When the massage therapist came back into the room I attempted to clarify what was expected, at which point it was evident she did not speak English. She just motioned that I should undress. Eventually a small fleece blanket was provided and the massage began (others in our party were given a sheet, hospital blanket, or towel to cover with).Throughout the massage, it did not seem like she actually knew how to give a massage. Very little time was spent on my shoulders, which are always tense and a real massage therapist would be able to feel that and spend extra time there. At the beginning of the massage I was asked by a different person (not my therapist) if I wanted medium or hard pressure. I was later asked if I wanted hot stones. She tried to massage the bony hump out of my neck (um, thats not gonna go away by massaging it).I will let the others share their odd experiences if they want to. At the end, all the staff stood in the lobby with all of us as we paid, and they gushed on and on about how beautiful we all were, especially the fact that we were American (read: white).Comparing all of our experiences later and doing additional research online, there were even more red flags. Do not go here, unless perhaps you are expecting a different kind of massage?

I was gifted a 1-hr massage certificate to use here, and went recently to use it before it expired. This place creeped me out, and the lady who “massaged” me was not skilled nor professional at all. I was never asked what style of massage I wanted prior to starting (nothing was listed on the gift certificate either), and at no point did the “massage therapist” ask if the pressure being used was ok, if the temperature of the stones was ok, or anything else. Bottom line: this place is sketchy, with scantily clad “massage therapists” all hunkering down in a dark back room as you walk in. If you’re looking for a place to get a quality, professional massage from legitimate massage therapists, find another place. Are there countless positive reviews of this place? Sure there are. Are those reviews legitimate? Who knows! I know I won’t be back here. Too many alarm bells went off walking in here.Update in response to the owner’s reply to this review (quoted below):“Thank you for your review. I’m sorry to hear you had a frustrating experience. The gift certificate was originally sold as a sweetish massage, and the hot stones were a free. If you wanted a different massage just let us know next time. I hope you give us another try”They were pushy from the start, with zero questions asked about problem areas, range of motion restrictions, preferred types of massage, etc. The person who gifted the massage confirmed that is was never specified what kind of massage the certificate applied for, nor was such stated anywhere on the certificate. I won’t be back. The owner’s response is a testament to their poor operation of their business.

The ladies there were wonderful! My neck and my shoulders gave me a lot of problems and she put a heated pad under my neck for me. I feel amazing! I noticed that one person commented in their review that one of the ladies couldnt speak English. she tried very hard to communicate and the other lady helped us to communicate as well. I could tell she did her best with communicating and her massage. As far as having to answer the phone, its part of owning a small business. My dad is a business owner so I understand that. Definitely recommend 😀❤️

My husband and I come here and get couples massages quite often. They are always very pleasant and accommodating. We leave feeling refreshed and relaxed after every single visit. Highly recommend!

Wendy (?)- did a great job! I’m very self conscious but she made me feel very comfortable. Great massage!! I paid and tipped for 1 hour but she addressed problems in my hand a little longer. She’s very nice and welcoming

Hot stone massage was awesome, deep tissue, the ladies were so nice and sweet. I was very sore and had a lot of tension and she helped relieve the tension in my neck and whole body. I will be back!

I have now been seeing the staff here for about 9 months. I do keep coming back because of how professionally and personally I am treated.

Wendy and Mary were amazing! We went in for an hour couples massage and it was so relaxing. My partner is a large guy and said the pressure was perfect. Full body massage was very thorough and it is evident that they really understand the body’s needs!The cost is also unbeatable. Will definitely be back!!

We are not coming back for these reasons who went for a couple massage:Poor language - a major barrierInconsistent massage - techniques applied to one side of the body but not to otherFrequent trips to answer the phone and attend to someone outside to schedule others.They were not happy with 17% tip! We could be generous if our experience was satisfying.Felt disrespected with their comments on how my body reacts to massage.Pushed us to try other services we don’t wantNot a relaxing message AT ALL; you wanted a place to be quiet but all you hear is the two of them talking more than 70% of the time.

I had a lower back injury and they helped me recover nicely. Hot stones were great! Very happy with Sen Mei!

Went in for a sore back and shoulder with aching legs too. Wendy did a great massage using firm pressure, not a light pushing touch like others have done. She used pressure as asked. It was a first time for me with the hot stones and also the bamboo sticks. It was a great experience. 👍

My fried introduced me to this place. I had a lot of knots in my back and neck from my job. They did an amazing job incorporating hot stones and pain relief oil onto my body. She knew exactly what to do to get rid of all my pain, best 90 mins of my life.

My daughter recommended the place so I went. The massage was perfect pressure because she asked several times to make sure. Other than that there was no talking which i was able to relax. She asked if I wanted hot stones and I was glad I said yes. My muscles felt like butter when she was done. The massage lasted the entire 60 minutes, not only 50 like at some places.My daughter and I are planning on going again and im giving my husband one for Fathers Day. I know he will love it. I highly recommend this place for an excellent experience.

I got the 90 min massage and it was literally full body from head to toes. Mixed hands/kneading, hot stones, and bamboo sticks and even got walked on. Relaxing experience. Strong hands. Clean atmosphere and friendly therapist who made sure I was comfortable and satisfied. Will book appointment again.

My first time I came, I was with my boyfriend. I had a lot of knots in my back and neck. She did an amazing job. I had a hot stones and bamboo combo, I felt nice so I came again by myself.

Wendy was amazing! she listened an met all my needs for my pain! we was very considerate but also stern with the care of my pain! at the end I felt great! we had a great conversation even with the language barrier! I would highly recommend coming here to see this wonderful woman an let her fix u up! thank you Wendy for your help you made me feel so much better!

I was very impressed by the massage techniques used! She worked diligently to get the knots out of my shoulder and neck which have been causing me pain for months. Wonderful experience overall - great hours and unbeatable price for the amazing service received. I recommend trying the Ashiatsu (back walking) if you like very firm pressure, and the hot stones were perfect. I will absolutely be returning!

What an amazing experience! I had a wonderful hot stone massage booked, but upon hearing I had never had a bamboo massage, I was treated to a sample. Get the bamboo!! Its so wonderful. I had a full 60-minute massage and was even treated to special Chinese medicines for an ache in my ribs. Definitely coming back next time Im in Des Moines!

I’m not sure why this place has a 5 stars review, but it definitely didn’t deserve it. We wanted to get a couple massage after a long weekend. Called to reserve an appointment, was told that they can take us at 2:30pm. We arrived about 2:25, the lady was very friendly, and told us that she was eating lunch if we minded waitting for a bit. We told her no rush, and we could wait. She came back out about 2:40 and said we had to wait until 3pm. We desperately wanted a massage. So we agreed to wait again. The massage was just ok, told them that we wanted deep tissue massage, and the massages were more like medium soft. They did check during massage if pressure was good, we asked for harder, but nothing changed. Here comes the part why they really received a one star, the lady maybe the owner? Her phone rang during our massage, super loud. While she was working on my back, she took the call. She didn’t even bother to leave the room!! Then shortly after, the lady that worked on my husband, left the room three times. So, prices were reasonable. But save your time, and go somewhere else.

The lady who does the massages is so sweet and kind (did not catch her name). I went a few weeks ago and tried her for the first time. The place is clean and serene. I got a 90 minute massage and a 30 minute foot massage. I tend to prefer light pressure, swedish massages and she is a bit more heavy handed, so if you love more firm pressure, she would be a great choice. The foot massage was great! My only other suggestion would be that she use actual massage oils instead of regular lotion. Decent prices too.

I have had several messages around the US. This was my first experience in Iowa, and it was the worst one I had. What I didnt receive here was peace, respect, relaxing message, and understanding of what I want, and instead I got repetitive distraction by the masseuse to answer the phone, constant talking above my head while messaging, uneven message pressure across my body, difficulty in very basic conversations, asking for more service, and the last but not the least is their surprise with the tip of below 20%! Make a customer happy, then you will earn more!Will never come back! Wish there was a zero star to rate.

I have been looking for a massage place for a very long time. I couldnt find anywhere that did a good job with having a same tempo of work. Wendy was very professional. She explained every little detail to me. She also explained all her pricing and what packages she has. Pricing was fair. Wendy did a great massage. She has the same pressure through out the whole back massage. She asks if it hurts and if she needs to stop or release some pressure. It was all along a Great Back Massage. Thank you Wendy.

Wendy did great job! She does not rush doing message, and she made it sure that she communicated with me throughout; asked if pressure is ok , need more pressure. Overall; it was wonderful message and relaxed. Place is clean and quiet area! Enjoyed 90minutes message; price is reasonable!! 5/5 …!!!will be coming back soon
