They kept my deposit saying they found evidence of smoking in the Room which was erroneous, never happened!!!! I feel like I was robbedβ¦.The king bed mattress was very thin and firm on a flat metal base which wasnβt very comfortable and they only offer 3 pillows per room as I was advised when requesting one more. The best part of the room was the shower( great heat and pressure). For the price it was a decent stay and the desk attendant was very pleasant. My experience with OYO was completely ruined when my security deposit wasnβt returned for smoking in my room which did not occur. I requested photos of the evidence they claimed to have, the manager agreed to send but I never received them. I would not stay here again and risk losing another $100 for something I didnβt do.
I rarely write reviews but felt obligated to help future travelers! I stay in Durham frequently and have stayed at most of the budget hotels around. This is the only one I thought about actually leaving. I get that its cheap, i dont expect perfection! The rooms were clean, staff was friendly. But i truly couldnt believe how terrible the bed and bedding was!! Mattress was rock hard, pillow was super thin. I have been more comfortable sleeping on an airport floor. I woke up with terrible back and neck pain.Overall - clean hotel but bad location (far out of town, behind some storage facilities and close to the woods) and unbelievably terrible bed.There are better hotels in this area for the same price - try Red Roof, Millenium, etc.
It was very out of the way and quiet. We liked that. It was a little run down looking, but it was clean and neat. The man running the place was very kind. Even when I argued with him about the size of the beds. lol He was right, by the way. ;)
Front Desk was extremely rude. I heard them arguing with other renters throughout the night. My boyfriend went out to smoke & was confronted moments later with the same front desk clerk. Got up early to go to an ppointments and came back to my room completely cleaned.
This OYO brand is a complete scam. Wanted to cancel a few of the days I booked less than 12 hours later. They insisted that I couldnt cancel even for the days that were about 72 hours away.Edit:In practical terms, what youre saying is that no one should ever make the mistake of prebooking 1 month worth of stay because one will be locked in for the entire month?Your policy says you can cancel before 9AM of checkin. 9AM for todays booking should only lock me in to todays booking. Not the booking of 10 days time.
The location is secluded and not very inviting from outside, looks a rundown place however I was surprised with a clean newly renovated room. In my opinion any room which has a comfortable bed and nice bathroom wins and thats what my son and I got during our visit to UNC, Chapel Hill in April 2024
I wish i couldΒ leave no stars. Its probably the rudest service you will ever have if you are Caucasian. I hate to go with race thing. But I am sure its because Im Caucasian. Make sure if you smoke to ask where the designated smoking area is. If you do not and youre not in a smoking room, they will take your hundred dollar deposit regardless if you smoke in the bedroom or not. The owner said to me, Do you smoke? I said no. Then he asked, Do you vape?I said yes, he said.If you fape in the room, I will know, and you will not get your hundred deposit back, I promise. I just cant believe the hate, aggression, and creepiness I felt from these people. I think theyre living out of this establishment. There is a full kitchen in the front behind the wall when you first walk in, but it is not accessible for the guests. If you want ice, you are only allowed one bucket of ice purr the sign posted. The website says 24/7 Service, but I woke up at 3:30 in the morning trying to figure out where I could smoke. I rang the bell a couple of times and waited for about an hour and nobody was there. The room I stayed in was clean, but the bed I stayed in was extremely stiff. Also, when I removed the top cover, it was full of crumbs. So definitely bring your own blankets and sheets. The one thing I did enjoy was the plant growing around the top of the ceiling in the lobby. Actually, if youre driving by 2, get anywhere else. You should stop in just to look at that, but I would never recommend anybody staying here unless you really need the lowest budget room in Durham
The worst place ever stayed.I booked online and when I arrived I made error I booked day before. So no room no refund. I booked it again and guy give me smoking room. I asked another because I donβt smoke he said thats what you paid for you have to pay extra. Rooms were so smelly I have to open the door to sleep. Do your self favor STAY AWAY
This place is closer to Hillsboro than Durham. The owner charged me to check in before 3pm $35 but was animate he will also charge me if Im not out by 11am. The room was clean except for the cigarette burns everywhere. He charged me $100 deposit and then took a long time to return it. I asked why the poor hospitality and he said covid changed everything. I dont know if covid had anything to do with it but I wont be returning. House keeping was nice though.
For the price to stay one night I was iffy about staying somewhere with only one level (easier for bugs and insects to enter my room) but after getting into my room I was pleasantly surprised by how clean the room was. It was a little weird that the sink was on the other side of the bathroom door and the bed was more firm than what I was used to but I sleep like a baby none-the-less.Would stay again
We walked in 5 minutes before check-in. Right away the lady at the desk said it would be extra. We said we would wait outside for 5 minutes. Then, she wanted to swipe my card and I thought I already paid. Instead of telling me that they didnβt get payment through Priceline yet, she was just rude. I called Priceline to see what was going on. Then she says we have to put $100 deposit plus the charge of room. I wanted to make sure we would get the $100 back. We booked what said double room and assumed it was 2 beds. It wasnβt until after booking, we saw it was one bed. Double room with one bed? Didnβt understand. We would only be there for a few hours and would have our son sleep with us. Eventually, we paid extra for a second bed. We walked into a freezing cold room, with a terrible smell. We didnβt trust her so we recorded everything when walking in. Sure enough, the vanity was broken and the sink was dripping. My husband went to the front desk to let them know. They said it was the people before us. Mind you, there was one other car in the lot and they gave us the worst room. After we came back from dinner, my son is in the bed and there is hair everywhere on the beds. It was disgusting. The only saving grace was the man at the desk had someone change out the sheets. Luckily we brought our own because they still had hair everywhere. The beds were on some metal box that sounded like you were trying to escape a chain fence when you moved. When checking out, the guy could hardly tell me, or give me proof that we would receive our deposit back. We did later that day but I had nothing in writing. I paid more for this room than a different and better hotel the day before. If I could have gotten a refund and gone somewhere else, I would have. I didnβt want to pay for 2 rooms. Donβt go there. They are rude and the rooms are disgusting.
I can tell they have done some remodeling to at least the room we were in and the bathroom was nicely done however the shower curb was way to short so water goest everywhere. The bed was on a spring frame and every time you move it squeaks. The mattress itself is pretty hard so donβt be surprised when you wake up and your back hurts. Keep in mind for a motel this afforable what do you expect the Hilton lolβ¦ for the online price itβs ok but if you walk in and get a room itβs 30% higher and then the price doesnβt justify it at all. We were pleasantly surprised with our stay at OYO and cannot agree with some of the very negative ratings. The place is located in a rural/suburban/commercial area, which felt relatively safe - no grocery stores or restaurants nearby, but it takes only a few minutes by car to reach Durham. The reception area points out a lot of rules, and you are expected to follow them. We had no issue with the security deposit, we knew it would be $100, and I dont even see it charged to my card. The people were very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and newly remodeled, the only thing we didnt like was the plastic mattress cover, which makes crinkly noises. If you come prepared (use google satellite to see the location, read the fine print) you know what to expect and can appreciate the value.

Unbelievably bad. I realize that this is a budget hotel, but jeez. We checked in around 5PM, left our bags in the hotel room, then left for a few hours. Arrived back at 10PM to realize we had no towels in our room whatsoever. When we went to the receptionist to ask for towels to bathe with, he informed us that he couldnt give us any because housekeeping was gone for the day and he couldnt access the room where they were kept... He was unapologetic and refused to find any alternative. We both dried off with one of the sheets from our rooms bed. Disgusting.I was charged a $100 deposit upon check in, which is not mentioned on the website. Beds are hard as all get out, and my sinuses/throat were irritated after sleeping there (poorly) for one night. No toiletries, and the toilet in our room shook when we sat down on it. Yeah.Gross hotel with poor service. Its really not worth the cheap prices.
Spotless nice sized room. This place is tucked behind a tire business and as a result if there was no signage youd drive by... but its recessed from the main road and therefore quiet...its minutes away from a grocery store and several restaurants/bars/gas stations. Im leaving 5 stars as it is a budget...if it was higher dollars then id lower my score-its a get what you pay for good deal...

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!!!!! As soon as we walked in EVERYTHING SMELLED LIKE SMOKE even the lobby. We checked into the first room and I couldnβt even stand sitting on the bed because it was so squeaky. The pictures advertised are NOTHING like the actual rooms. The walls are not even fully painted, the sheets are ripped, the mattress was discolored, and the tag was so old that we couldnβt even read hold the mattress was. The air conditioner cut on and off. We asked for a refund and the person at the front desk said no refunds. I called Expedia and they said the only way they could issue a refund was if the hotel approved the refund request. Even with the pictures I showed them they still refused to issue a refund. I donβt understand the horrible hospitality it must take to run a business like this.

The customer service was HORRENDOUS!!! The lady in the front yells at you every time! I asked for an extra wash cloth since it was only 2 in the room & I had my two kids with me. She was mad the reservation didnβt mention kids & told me I shouldβve mentioned that then took 10mins to hand me a wash cloth!!!!! WHICH WAS RIGHT BEHIND ME!! The rooms were decent & clean(which is a plusπ―), random stains on sheets & each pillow had stains too βΉοΈ. We got uncomfortable and slept in the car. The family next to us saw & heard what happened and offered us to leave with them. They felt sorry after I showed her the video of how I was treated! What made it worse, the lady was a mother. She showed no compassion towards me. They acted afraid of a 4β11 woman with 2kids. I only recorded because how THEY both started to treat me. I will never return because I felt unsafe & unheard! The website doesnβt mention the deposit you have to make once there & they donβt issue refunds! SHE YELLED AT ME TO RETURN THE KEY, since our hotel stay was moved elsewhere. He was upset too. I told them Iβm at work and will return once Iβm off. The male owner also touched our property & moved it when we wasnβt present!! She yelled and said NO BRING KEY NOW! The way we was judge THE MOMENT WE ARRIVED is unsettling! But I can keep going but just knowβ¦.My opinion is my opinion. You guys may have a different experience than I have. So good luck sugarfoots! When I pulled up to the building, there were windows boarded up with plywood - not a good sign. There was a strange odor when I entered the lobby. I was denied my booking because my ID was not considered valid - nowhere specified what my ID needed to be when I booked online.I have never had an issue with my ID at any other hotel Ive stayed at. I was also told there would be a 100 dollar deposit - money I did not have, and I was not informed of this when the room was booked. Part of the reason that I was going to stay here was cost. To lure people in with low prices then try to dump fees on them after theyve driven hours to get here is low. Surprise and hidden fees are a very dishonest business practice. Judging by the reviews, I would say that I dodged a bullet, and that this place has definitely earned all of its poor reviews.
AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!This hotel cancelled my booking 3 days before check in. (THREE DAYS).I had reserved a room for 2 nights and paid in full 2 months in advance. The hotel emails me 3 days (THREE DAYS) before Iβm supposed to check in and states that βthey apologize for any inconvenienceβ, but that the reservation is no longer valid and has been cancelled.So, I call the hotel to see what is going on. The staff spoke very little English. All they kept saying was βIβm very sorry. It is cancelled and you will be refunded in full.β(I scrambled to find another hotel last minute. So very stressful. Had to book a room 35 miles away from the city I needed to stay in.)DO NOT RISK BOOKING WITH THEM. because they might cancel last minute and ruin your travel plans. Oh, and refunds take 7-10 business days. Absolutely unacceptable. On all fronts.
Very terrible customer service will not recommend coming here for a stay they talk over you on the phone and I called 2 hours later after I booked my room and they said they did not see it when I booked before I was down there I paid over 200$ + to get down there for them to say over the phone they donβt see my reservation in the system
Dont fall for the cheap rates. Its like they do that to get you in so they can going to charge you for every little thing they can, and they do NOT do refunds for ANY reason. $15 to change the room. $35 to check in if its not 3pm on the dot or later. $100 deposit per SMOKING room. $250 deposit for non-smoking. The nice pictures and positive reviews are also false. The positive reviews are purposely deceptive and MUST be family, friends, bribes and/or incentive-led. The rooms actually JUST started being renovated and the pictures online is NOT what you get. Its a nasty, stinky, dirty, grimy, musty, broke down old motel with chipped paint, mold, dust, and bugs, and looks like it hasnt been updated since the 70s. Plus the sheets were stained, chairs in the room were moist and mildewy, and the tv remote didnt even work. The springs in the remote were actually missing were the batteries should be.Worse of all, the air quality in the room was so bad I quickly got sick, feeling dizzy, light-headed, tightness in my head, very nauseous after less than 10 minutes. Plus, I dont smoke, have asthma, bad allergies, and other health conditions that make me sensitive to smoky environments. But they did not care AT ALL. They wanted that $250 for a non-smoking room deposit which I didnt have after already paying the $100 deposit for the first room plus $15 extra since they changed it when I didnt have a $250 deposit for the non-smoking room I originally paid for. I even contacted hotels .com to help me reason with the hotel to either refund me or simply give me a better room that wouldnt make me sick. But the hotel refused unless I paid $250. I ended up having to call a friend to help me book a room ANYWHERE else. If this was the ONLY hotel available, I was already prepared to sleep in my car. Thats how bad it was. The only good thing is the NEXT hotel waived any deposit on a room for me because of the disbelief of the greedy inhumane treatment of THIS hotel.And please do not contact me asking me to stay again or fix my review. You could not pay me to stay there.
I did not like the bed it is so hard and the pillows are flat everything else is okay but do not ask for extra towels you are not going to get nothing extra
I take pride in my reviews and feel this is one thats necessary. I did set up my travel plans for here, slightly concerned with the negative cleanliness comments and all I really needed was a clean room and freezer. I prayed. I have been well traveled for decades and can tell you that for the price point and what I got, it was equal. I did get into one of the renovated rooms so it was pretty clean but I did not get a freezer which is what I needed. Theyre working the kinks out but it wasnt the best way all. A Few negative things: walls are thin, it didnt have soap for my hands (or shower if you needed) but I had that with me so I didnt really care. This non smoking king room didnt have a small coffee maker and I had to take a total of a 15 minute drive to get a cup of coffee. Its all small easy things to fix. I paid a *total of $66 for the room. All I wanted was a clean bed and space. I got a brand new shower which was lovely. The bed is modern looking, the sheets were comfortable cotton. I felt like I was sleeping on a crib mattress. The plastic mattress pad liner on this bed was ridiculous for grown adult. Every time I moved all I heard was plastic crinkling. Im sure the mattress is old, nonetheless it wasnt very comfortable. The cotton sheets were very comfortable for the breathability. I dont think that for what I paid, this hotel is was unfair. The person who checked me in was excellent and overall feel like I could come back once things are finished perhaps- only because of the affordability.
This motel is an older model that is being renovated. The renovations did NOT interfere with my stay and were very neatly kept. My room had been renovated and was very clean. Make no mistake, if you are looking for an ultra modern room with glitz, this isnt it. However, if you eat a nice, clean roomfor under a hundred dollars, you wont be disappointed. The only issue that was annoying is that the management requires a $250 deposit and it MUST be held on a credit card. The owner of the hotel was very hospitable to me.

Amazingly peaceful and homey. We had a great time staying at this hotel. Out of all hotels we stayed in this has been my favorite. Not only was the room perfect, comfortable, cozy and clean, we loved and enjoyed the location. The environment and views are fantastic. There is a nice big tree where we relaxed in and its surrounded by beautiful grass and nature. Its such a nice quite peaceful place. I was a little worried about the deposit but it is returned after. This place is definitely worth the expense.

Worst experience ever! As a travel nurse, I do try to find motels and or hotels that are as cost effective as possible. I have stayed at this establishment before and had found that staff to be pleasant at that time. This time was very different. I walked in the lobby to check in and the staff was having a conversation with another patron. He was extremely rude to her. Once she left and I was able to talk, I explained that I was checking in. I was told that I had reservations for a smoking king room. Thats impossible..I have lung issues and cannot be around cigarette smoking much less want my clothing around it. He went on to tell me that there were no non smoking rooms available. Slid my ID back thru the slot and walked away from the window. So there I was 3 hours from home, nowhere to stay and needing to be up for work in 5 hours..what is a girl to do?Thanks OYO...you guys sure know how to help your customers! Never again.
If I could leave no stars I would. The horrible customer service was atrocious!!!! Me and my bf booked a room for this location on hotels.com. We seen under the βpolicies and feesβ tab that the deposit was listed as $100. We called and confirmed. Once we arrived with the $100 we were told very rudely, the deposit will now be $250 since they only have nonsmoking rooms available. My bf and I then stepped out to the front to gather the funds on our card to pay the deposit. Once we had it figured out and went inside to reserve our room, THEY REFUSED US A ROOM. It was 12am after a long day of driving for work and we then had no place to sleep and drove around trying to find another hotel to stay at. People who lack professionalism and manners should not be running a business! Never got my refund either.
I question the authenticity of some of the reviews Iβm seeing. Scary location! Scary people staying there! Paper thin ceiling walls and ceiling. Was asked for a ride into town by some creep the first time I left my room. Was charged a $250 deposit at check-in (have NEVER had that happen before). Finally left and got another hotel at 1am because of loud, foul-mouthed hooligans above me carrying on (and were certainly going to all night). My worst motel experience ever by a country mile! Booked the room for 2 nights bc arriving late. She only checked me in for one until I reminded her (said it before). Gave me a smoking room claiming I had booked a smoking room which is absolutely not true.On the receipt it says hotel chooses bedtype which is OK but nothing about the smoking room. They declined to give me another room.They charge a ridiculous security deposit but decline or keep the receipt on which it says that it is a security deposit only igive you another receipt on which it says its a sale.Wow :-( great fun checking in
I love the staff!! I love the rates... this is my go to place when I work 30-45 minutes within the area!! They keep the traffic to a minimum with their guest policy and the parking lot is always calm! Would recommend if you need a decent quiet smoking room and you dont want to pay 100$ a night.
Like tons before me, Id give this hotel no stars if I could. I had a booking for three nights. It was absolutely terrifying when I arrived. But I decided not to judge a book by its cover. The man at the front desk told me that the only room he had was a smoking room... And not only that, the man said that room was right next to the construction he had going on, and it would be going on from 9 am to 7 pm every day.When I got to the room it smelled terrible, and the lights wouldnt work. When I finally got the light on.. we realized the room was infested with HUGE roaches. I couldnt believe it. I went to tell the man and he said its normal to have roaches. And if I wanted I refund I needed to call someone else. I left and he instantly blocked me from leaving a review. Worst experience ever.

The rooms carpet was already FILTHY and roaches were in the bathroom and came out the nightstand when the lights were turned off. This place is run down and needs to be shut down. I will be contacting the news and BBB to have this overpriced homeless shelter permanently closed!
I stayed here 2 months and 2 weeks. I was pleased with the housekeeping service most, She was great and always checked on me just to assure I was comfortable and everything was to my standards. I wish I could have tipped her more often but I dont carry cash much. The owner of the hotel was very understanding and welcoming of my living situation. Hes a true gem. Great customer service. This hotel was not what I was lead to believe (given bad reviews). There was late night traffic and disturbances but the owner expeditiously resolves those issues. Hes just great! My only complaint of this hotel would be the owners wife. Shes very rude and shouldnt interact with guest. She made me feel very uncomfortable at the beginning of my stay. She accused me of smoking in the room and her tone is always rude and aggressive. She also tried to charge me an extra 100$ and most likely would have if her husband wouldnt have walked in on the altercation. Shes the turnoff of a wonderful stay. Other than her, Oyo Hotel is a very suitable and affordable place to stay. Im very grateful for the owner and his accomadations of my stay.

Avoid booking here at all costs. Listed pictures are falsified and donβt represent the conditions of the hotel. We booked through a third party and ended up with a smoking room (which we didnβt ask for) with stained carpet, and outdated furnishings that did not match any images listed online. Also, the main room lights did not function. If you have any type of allergies or respiratory problems, staying here would be hazardous to your health. Also, receptionist was responsive but didnβt try to accommodate or respond to any of our requests. Feels like a scam for unsuspecting tourists. Do yourself a favor and drive the additional 4 miles into town to stay at a real hotel.
We loved it here while traveling for work. We got one of the smaller rooms out back of the property and the owner seemed nice. If your needing to travel to Durham and dont want to spend an arm and a leg for a room this is the place to go. One of the best in Durham compared to some others around.
The room was clean and perfectly fine except for very thin walls and a very hard bed. They offer daily housekeeping which was nice and unexpected. The outside surrounding area feels a little sketchy, although we had no problems.
Our stay was very enjoyable. A professional, yet friendly, staff member checked us in for a room that was exactly what we had asked for -- first floor, non-smoking, and no pets. We understand the hotel has a. No Pet policy, which we appreciated because my wife is very allergic to pet hair, dander, etc. Breakfast the next morning was very good, and the hotel had an attendant who kept the breakfast bar well stocked and the area clean.
I have never left a bad review, but theres a first time for everything.The male owner of this place was extremely rude to my boyfriend when he came in to check in for our online booking.We did not have our child with us as we had put in the reservation so it had to be modified. Simple right? Wrong.My bf had trouble with the app so he called the assistance number he found on there and spoke to a very polite woman. The woman and the owner then spoke on my bfs phone.The owner then proceeded to scream at the woman on the phone calling her disgusting expletives. He then told my bf he would not give us a room and that we had cost him money. He said there were other hotels in the area and to go there.This man has been rude for years. I will never come back to this disgusting establishment and I forewarn anyone who does!
WARNING WARNING WARNINGWhen I arrived, had us booked at a room that couldnβt hold my family. Had to spend close to half an hour on the phone to correct the issue. Then had to pay a security deposit of $250 that wasnβt mentioned until I arrived, however paid it. Month later I check and they still didnβt refund the security deposit. Highly recommend to avoid this lodging
I did not stay. It is where single woman travelling alone come to die. It is in the middle of nowhere. Surrounded by truckers. And for the roach motel it appears to be, they want a 250.00 deposit for a non smoking room. I contacted the Better Business Bureau to get my money back.
I would rate zero stars if I could... the manager is a horrible person. He wanted to charge me an additional $250 dollars before I even checked in, saying it was for the deposit, but the website i made the reservation said $100 deposit. Then he told me I could cancel my reservation and theyd call to get something that said he would refund. So I called them in the lobby. He refused to answer the phone there and also a week later. So I got charged for a room that I never stayed in. Also super sketchy area. Not really a place you wanna stay anyways.
This was the worse hotel experience of my life. I would give this a 0 if possible. I booked it on Expedia, and I arrived there. The guy checked the reservation, and I was told I need to give them a credit card for $250 for incidentals. I never had this happen to me before. I told the guy that I was dealing with a lot of things at the moment , and just wanted the room I booked. The guy was completely uncaring, and said I cant stay. DO NOT STAY THERE. YOU WOULD BE BETTER SLEEPING IN AN UNFORTABLE UHAUL than dealing with all the stuff.
Tonight my experience was awful. I Had some Indian guy be extremely rude and disrespectful to me through my car window. The guy practically interrogated me in the parking lot for no reason and threated to call the police on me for sitting in my car on the phone? Little does this man know, my brothers home burnt down recently and I have been paying for him to stay at the OYO until he gets back on his feet. However, now I will be taking my brother and my money else where. I will never as long as I live ever stay at another OYO.

Hotel has/ had bed bugs. They tried to in case the mattress in something. But it was dirty. The main light at the door didnt work. The TV remote control didnt work. The toilet in our room wasnt level or secure to the floor. . overall its an old hotel that looks and feels old and not welcoming.
This hotel is NOT a 2.5 or 2 Star Hotel! It barely makes it to 1 STAR!! Heating units are triggered so that they Do Not work if you want to make your room warm!!! I woke up at 2 a.m. freezing!!! Insulation is horrible!When I checked in I gave my Cc for a deposit. I wasnt told that the deposit wass.$100.00 until.he gave me the slip to sign!!!.$100.00 Deposit is unheard of ;even for 5 Star Hotels! Owner had an attitude when I questioned the 100.00 deposit.I will never waste any penny for this hotel!!!
I travel for work, so I am always on the road. I got stuck in NC for Memorial Day weekend. The room was clean, quite, and the man behind the counter was extremely nice and helpful. Be warned there is a $250 deposit which I was totally in prepared for. Other then that, all in, good quite olace
Only 2 stars because I cant give 2.5.The motel is what you pay for--a cheap motel room. Decent enough for a brief stay, wouldnt recommend it for more than a couple of days.The biggest factor in my experience keeping it from a 3 or 3.5 is the booking process. I booked over the phone, which was very easy. However, when I arrived to check-in, they only had smoking rooms available. This wasnt mentioned during the reservation process. The odor of smoke has settled into most parts of the room. Not being a smoker, it had a rather unpleasant effect on me.Unrelated note, the walls are quite thin. Light sleepers may be awaken by anyone out and about during the night. For me, it was a mild grievance at most.The staff I dealt with were nice enough. I think it would have been a 3-star experience had I been in a non-smoking room...but I was never given the choice.YMMV.
Staff was always good and helpful But the recent renovation and redecoration made it an excellent experience and it made business travel much easier,. Before the hotel seemed dirty and dingy. I never slept well because of the overall seedy conditions. Now that is totally different. Also a minor point but now it seems that the Best Western Plus in Durham Skyland gets all TV stations not a few.
Do not expect this property to look anything like the stylized photos/drawings on the website. This place looks awful, is in a questionable area and has truck containers surrounding the building. There are no amenities (only 2 small bars of soap). Itβs just a very old motel they have tried to spruce up a little bit. Strong smell of spicy food in reception area. Very disappointing! Donβt bother to book a room here if you want a pleasant experience. π©
Dont waste your money on This Oyo motel in Hillsborough, there is a RedRoof not to far , also a Duke inn motel on guess Rd. I highly recommend before giving your card/money to Oyo. Worse mistake I had all year for far was coming here, not only didnt I get a room but I got scammed , 3weeks now still no SIGN of my money. SIMPLY DO NO RECOMMEND. Worst motel in NC award goes to Oyo
Deserves no stars. Booked online. Gave arrival time for 2pm. When I arrived they said I couldnt check in until 3 unless I paid $35 more. So I waited an extra hour. Went inside at 3pm. Now they said I had to pay $100 deposit plus the for the room. They did not tell me this. So I waisted time when I could been looking some where else. Plus it looks like it a raggedy hotel

Now, Im from Connecticut and we dont have this thing up here. So when I heard that, I was confused. I only had around $45 in my account just to pay for a hotel for the night because I was 750 miles away from home. I told her I couldnt afford it and she kept asking me over and over again after i told her around 5 times that I didnt have that much money. I ended up just walking out and requesting a cancellation and my booking website was going to give me a full refund until the hotel had personally contacted them and told them to refuse a refund after I waited 3 hours and was about to have everything sorted so I could have a room for the night. So I had to sleep in my car for the night and on top of that now have no money in my account 750 miles away from home. Thank you Oyo, I wont be returning. At least not in this state. Customer service was garbage and the lady speaking to me could barely understand English. Seriously fix your services, if you have to add a deposit fee in the future put it in with the original fee so people actually notice there is a fee rather than having some small text in the back notes that no one will read. Seriously.
I like this place. Look Better than the pictures,Its clean, affordable and safe. The manager of the hotel was very honesty,when I checked in the second time. I forgot my wallet in the room (there was thousands cash in it), and he found it and gave it back to me,amazing! Great people!may God bless him and this hotel
This hotel deserves the accolades that it has received. It is in a terrific location--just steps away from the Central and the City. And it is within walking distance of everything else you could ever want to see in Durham. The rooms are comfortable, you get free wifi, and there is a terrific (tea time/afternoon snack) included with your stay.
Dont do it! Motel is back in the woods. I got caught traveling late night and needed to stop. I got there late people standing outside in common areas. Charged a $25 deposit for smoking. I did not smoke in the room. Guy with long blonde pony tail went to check. Came in the room and there was ashes on the floor by a table mysteriously. I could tell they needed that extra $25 so I let them have it. Bottom gutter hotel. Dont go here.
Ive been reading some harsh reviews about this place and not once did i ever have a bad time staying here. yes its very cheap so you get what you payed for witch is a clean bed with tv and a microwave with a nice bathroom. the man at the desk is very friendly and made me feel welcome. enjoy your stay!
Have to stay at least one night if visiting Durham. Staff was exceptionally friendly. Our room was ready for an early check-in without extra charge (around 8-9am!). Worth the price just for the fame and the pool. Plenty of amenities and other attractions within walking distance.
Hands-down a great hotel - location is prefect, establishment is beautiful, and staff is pleasant & helpful. And they have a roof-top place - AWESOME! - With a stunning view - AWESOME again! The breakfast buffet spread & complimentary afternoon tea/coffee are real perks too.
Super location, very charming hotel with great architectural details intact. Although our room was modest sized, it was well appointed with a small private place. So many restaurants and historic things to see a very short walk. We really loved the hotel.
Room itself was good but seems like the bed spring and the mattress was laying on a small bed frame which doesnt cover the whole place. Each time you move, it makes a noise so if you are in a weak sleep, youd be waking up few times. Once youre asleep, depending on how your sleep is, then youre fine

We had a king suite with a balcony, which was like having our own apartment in NC, complete with stove, microwave, refrigerator, and kitchen table and chairs. The parking is very secure, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. It is just steps away from NC and the Library
Roaches galore. Dry rotted lampshades. Deadbolt lock on door non functioning. Holes in walls. Beat up furnishings from the 1980s. Very quiet because there were no other overnight guests.
Can you believe we never made it past check-in?! This guy at the desk refused me a room because I booked on priceline. Before this though, he was eating all up in my face and he even left me at the front desk confused with questions above my head as he proceeded to (in his words): Finish his dinner. I rang the bell and asked for help re-booking. He told sighed rudely in my face and said, You book room. Okay? Im not responsible for you booking. Never again dude.

I booked a room at this hotel thru Booking.com and I had FREE cancellation thru Booking.com. I ended up canceling my booking and decided to stay at a different hotel. Well a few days later I look on my bank statement and notice they charged me for one night stay. I called the hotel, they refused to refund my money. I had to call booking.com and they ended up calling the hotel and they STILL did not wanna give me a refund stating it wasnt their policy. So I had to email booking.com a copy of my bank statement showing the charge to get the issue resolved.
Front desk staff were very friendly. Room was extremely clean. Restaurants within reasonable driving distance (maybe 5 miles). Would definitely stay here again.

Did not stay. Was not happy and got a refund after I saw the rooms. Went in, floors dirty, smelled horrible, counters had not been wiped down. First thing I did was check the beds, and saw bed bugs. Used to be a nice little getaway, but itβs run down and disgusting. Definitely do not recommend.

Ive been wanting to check this hotel out for the longest and yesterday & today was my 1st time staying. the rooms are nice & cozy. i didnt have any problems,!the manager/front desk guy was superrrr nice/friendly. the hotels area is in a secluded area,away frm the street,quiet & quaint. you wouldve never thought there was a hotel there,!i will be back for sure,!i enjoyed the cable lineup with HBO & how everythin u need is literally no more than 10minz away. this hotel is cheap,affordable & always available.
My sister and I stayed here for 9 days, when we first arrived we were extremely tired and grumpy after our 16 hours flight from Australia they got us into our room really fast so we could sleep. Shout out to Staff absolute legend nicest person ever always greeted us and just all around a top bloke in the hotel industry the rest of the front desk staff were extremely nice
I stayed here overnight with my husband and two kids. Great accommodation and the location is very convenient. One employee that stood out was Nan . Shehelped us with all our needs and made us feel right at home. We will definitely be coming here again.
The Best Western plus Durham Skyland in Durham Skyland is undergoing renovations, and I was lucky enough to stay in one of the newly renovated rooms, which were bright and cheerful. The staff is very hospitable, and I loved the free wifi and parking. Its a good place to spend the night, especially if you have a rental car so you can check out downtown Durham Skyland.
2 nights to finish off a wonderful 60th birthday celebration with family and friends after being in the Maldives, we had the pleasure of being greeted by staff and shown to our rooms (there were 9 of us). It was a late arrival but staff has made it seamless and efficient. Thank you so much, nothing was too much and we had a wonderful time.

They charge a $100 deposit that they dont tell you about until the last minute. Booking them online, it doesnt inform you of this. The lady at the front desk was rude and unhelpful.The area looks trashy anyway. There are abandoned, broken down buildings and garbage everywhere. Great price with great room and great service, i love everything in this hotel Iβve searched online for hotels with in room Jacuzzi it will cost a lot of money but in Durham Skyland inn and suites youll be satisfied and felt like itβs a jackpot. Clean room, beautiful bedding, nice bathroom, elegant Jacuzzi, spacious, no mites, free wifi and lots of choices in tv channels.

The hotel in lovely and in a wonderful location, close to the Central, City and great restaurants. We booked a junior suite overlooking the entrance of the hotel. Our family of four stayed at this hotel as part of our Virgin holiday and arrived after a long drive from the Grand Canyon. Our room was upgraded and we enjoyed stunning views of NC as well as excellent service from all the staff and in particular Amy who went above and beyond
Motel is located in durham, which is a neighborhood in the Valley. The area isnt amazing, but seemed safe enough. You will definitely need a car staying here. Parking is secured behind a large gate. I got an upgrade to a 1bdrm suite (after booking studio). Receptionist and staff very friendly.
Accessible to everything in NC. Located just behind Walk of Fame, Library. And close to the metro. The room was huge. Good for family of 4. For a price of around $600+ for 3 nights Breakfast options: Croissants, Loaf Bread, Boiled Egg, Bagel, Coffee, Milk, Fresh Fruits, Cereals, Yogurt, Fresh juices and Cheese.
Walked in to friendly reception staff then got to check in early which was great. we walked into the room and were extremely impressed. then we tested the best out and it was even better!! Probably a 15 mins walk down to the pier but a easy walk. would recommend for sure

Beautiful rooms, in a nice offset area not far at all from town at all. With outstanding staff so willing to help with whatever. I totally will be coming back and recommend this hotel to whoever is looking for a relaxed vacay.
Stayed here for a couple weeks, the rooms are clean and got all the amenities for very reasonable prices. The staff are very accommodating and worked with me. Will definitely be back on the future.
Very convenient location to the hotel, very nice quality and clean rooms and lobby that have been recently refurbished, friendly staff, reasonable price, loved the free wifi - only wish breakfast room service started before 7am. Would stay there again but hope I dont have to since it was for a party! :-)
I would not recommend this hotel. If I could I would give it a -1. I did not actually stay because I refused to after I was cussed out over the phone and the person over the phone got an attitude when I asked him to repeat important info he was running through. He was really rude and said he knew he was an ads. By far the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

This place was a mess, they charged 80 dollars for a room that looks like lived in it and destroy it. There was 20 cigarettes burns in one of the blankets not including the other. The tub had 20 some cigarettes burn permanently on it, I would not stay again.
This was the worst hotel stay Iβve ever had. We paid $71 for 2 nights the bathroom was nasty and there was mold on the wall. When we arrived they told us they donβt know why booking let us book the room and they were sold out so they found a room to put us in and it was horrendous
The good reviews are certainly fake. There is nothing worth seeing within walking distance unless you enjoy a burned down seafood factory and industrial yards. It is not close to any metro stops or stations and is not in the heart of old Durham, nor near the beach with ocean views, nor near a theme park. These reviews are comical.

Disgusting rooms, sheets was disgusting. Stains all over them and when we asked for more they said there was βno serviceβ at night. Also we were racially profiled and the attitudes of the staff was horrible. If I could give it 0 stars I would.
Place was out in the country. Rooms really small. But it was clean, reasonable. Area was quiet and safe. Ideal for people on tight budget or west Durham visitors. Maybe haunted ! π
We bookes this hotel after reading numerous reviews of multiple hotels in durham .Took a chance and it paid off big time. My wife loved this hotel for all of this little things they offer e.g. afternoon tea and snacks, quite little place on the roof, adding an extra bed at no charge the patio connect to the room etc the staff was great very accommodation and friendly.
Oyo will steal your money! NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THESE THIEVES! You can not simply get your money back if you decide not to stay in their nasty, smelly, junkyard of a hotel...π―
Just got back from a 10 night say at Durham Skyland NC Hotel (August). Ideal location for seeing the sights of NC, being just off NC. Plenty of trips that can be arranged by the excellent concierges. Food was good but a bit pricey. We had the all you can eat buffet breakfast on the first day for $27 per person
Just awesome, classic NC hotel. Feels great. Place is the place to be, even in the off season. It is truly rare air. Great for a few nights for a visit or a month if you are new to NC and have some money and want to plug in.
Been staying half a week there for few months. Older property but the improvements have been impressive. Rooms are clean and quiet. Staff has been excellent!
Excellent location, good room service is aware though the meals are huge......very helpful staff & knowledgeable too! We loved the location especially since we had children & no car........plenty of shopping to be done at the mall attached to the hotel. Great restaurants nearby.....we ate at the California Pizza

Well for one Im from back woods and this is by far back woods its conveniently located off the interstate and grocery store right down from.the road . It is in a wooded area! So u dont have to deal with the unsightly view of the interstate.. and as to the ppl standing around Ive had no issues mind u theres a play ground ,brick grill and a pool . Its summer not everyone is a hermit.. I had no problems from anyone enjoying being outside. And slept quite well. As to being hassled by the keepers. Not happen to me and Im here weekly from. Tenn.
Horrible experience. Just ten days out from major knee surgery. Hotwire had them as Wheel Chair / Handicapped accessible. Found out that it was not remotely true. Had to try to manage with crutches. Which I didβ¦The biggest problem was that they tried to use my disability to extort extra money from me. I extended the room on Hotwire. They then called me, at checkout time, knowing how hard it would be for me to move, and told me that the room was available β¦but wanted an additional payment. To be clear, I could have booked the same room on Hotwire for the exact same rate at this time. So, it was not that the rate had gone up or that the room was not available. It was that I was disabled and they thought they could safely take advantage of me.When I told them that I needed to work it out with Hotwire, they told me I had to vacate the room imediately. They then called the local sherif to make sure I left. This was all within 20 minutes of check out time.I was very glad to have the police report and will be reporting them to the appropriate agencies and to follow up with the franchise.Frankly, I think they are used to dealing with poorer people and people who they can take advantage of. They were rude and dismissive the entire time I was there.The specific room I was in was acceptable, but hotel itself is very dumpy and old.My advice? Spend, literally, a few dollars more and stay at the red roof in close by.Wish I could give it zero stars.
This place is horrible. I woke up w bites all over my arms. They have bed bugs. The rooms smell horrible. We were on the way home from DC and it started pouring the rain. We decided to stop the closest place and really regretted it.
Our TV had soooo many channels. Glad the owner is strict on NO pets and NO outside visitors. Several security cameras makes you feel safer.
We stayed here when the renovation of the main area was taking place which we hadnt been informed off, it did not cause a problem with our stay it was just non impressive when you first arrive walking through the valet parking area. We did not receive any extras as a good will gesture but never asked either.
The guy who picks up call from India talks too much, I just asked for the price, he took 10 minutes for answering me the simple question. He talks unnecessary too much, very annoying & keeps repeating same thing over and over time.We went to the front desk, the guy who works, he was showing attention, no hi no hello, he was rude. Very unprofessional. He doesnβt know how to work at customer service.Very bad, donβt go there.

This is a quality property that goes that little bit further to ensure you are a guest and not a number.Our room was comfortable with opening windows onto a side street but when all Three sections were closed it was completely sound-proof and we were in the first floor.you can get tea,cofee,water and soft drinks 24 hours a day.

From the time we landed in Durham I had made up my mind to visit this spectacular tourist destination and our expectations were over filled by this massive yet beautiful wonder we got to see, my daughter was overwhelmed with joy and was ready to leave this place our 5 day trip was all together pleasant.

If you like the lights of Vegas and the feeling and not staying at a regular hotel, this is the perfect hotel for you. Its located right next to the Kodak theatre and the jimmy kummel set. Its also attached to a mall and surrounded by lots of restaurants.
I didnβt get to stay at the hotel because when I got there they canceled my reservation for the room I need that I had made through hotels.com app and about 30 minutes after I left to look for another hotel I noticed they charged me a cancellation fee even though I wasnβt the one to cancel, it was the hotel itself that did and the room was canceled within the free cancellation window time frame but I still somehow got charged and called customer service about a refund and I still have not received it after they said I will get it back

I has been going back to stay at Durham Skyland hotel. It is one of the best hotel which I consider the best as the room rate is quite reasonable , room is spacious and clean , check in very fast and staffs are very friendly.

This place stink never wash drapes dusty dirty refrigerator dont get cool there landscape suck the housekeeper bring her boyfriend to work and he be in rooms towels and wash cloth are half wash on non smoking side no hot water owners attitude sucks rooms they advertising do not look this way couch smells need to be deep clean pool needs to be rebuilt place is dusty behind tv no stars
This hotel was nasty and the front desk staff are very rude and they are scammers wanted extra money for a smoke room $250 that you do not get back !!! If you are needing a cheap room keep looking!
Very loud people..slamming of car doors..room doors slamming. On the last day checking out the indian manager told my young son he couldnt have any breakfast..very unprofessional.
I was droping my mom off and my dad had left to the store ...I wait for him to come back so she was ok and not alone ..Im using the bathroom and the manager busting in yelling and calling us liers... He is so rude to females...so here we are at 10:00pm
Book The Room online through hotels.com got to the hotel check then the hotel was like 60 bucks after that he said okay now while in need from you is $100 didnt know I was going to have to pay $100 didnt have $100 would not refund me my money I went back the next morning to try to talk to somebody on the day shift and it was a woman there arguing about her hundred dollars that she paid she wanted it back she paid in cash and they did not have it Ive looked online and several people have complained about the same thing for the hotel I feel like I paid money did not get to stay at the hotel I feel duped dont go here
Room was nice and clean however I didnt like the location
So I got charged for a one night room stay and didnt even get the room.. There is an 100$ deposit hold to even stay here and I only had enough to buy the room. So here I am with no money and no place to stay and payed over 50$ for nothing??? Do not ever stay here or even go near this place!!!
Good for the most part except the part where door jammed and I was locked inside the room for about 10 mins. Management was very helpful in fixing the problem
Donβt ever get a room here! Their staff is rude, house cleaning is horrible, and they have no common decency about themselves! If I had to sleep under a bridge our come back to this hotel, I would choose the bridge!

Its an ok place to stay..a few bug problem in certain rooms but that can be worked on..other than that its a nice quite comfortable place to rest
Still advent refunded my security deposit new paint floors shower but everything is old after that its a shame
