Spa On the Plaza

I had this aromatherapy package of massage and facial . Massage was awesome . Masseuse knew what she was doing. Pressure points were perfect . Nice ambiance. I wish i could say the same for facial. Facial was really not up-to the mark. I told the lady i use vitamin E products but she only used vitamin C products. No face massaging - only product application like a machine . I was expecting much better “specific need” based facial that too with some face massage. Over all not a bad experience however wont ever do facial .

The spa was excellent! My wife and I got the “date night” package for our honeymoon and we’re very pleased with our 50 minute couples massage. I would rate the massage, staff, and facilities of the spa 5 stars.The food at the restaurant was quite a bit underwhelming for the price of the package. The shared pizza was small (about 8” diameter) and only had 3 options to choose from (2, unless you wanted a cauliflower crust) and it resembled something from Red Robin, rather than a hotel restaurant. It was not enough food for two people. When I got my receipt, the total cost for the meal in the package was greater than the combined cost of all the food items we received. However the massage appeared to be discounted based on the typical 50 minutes massage price, so the overall price was similar. However, our tip was spread between the spa and restaurant via percentages. Since they overpriced the food and underpriced the massage, the restaurant got more of a tip than I was anticipating.In summary, I would recommend the spa, but would not recommend the restaurant or the “date night” package.

I went for the Tropicana package. They had a new therapist doing the exfoliation and massage part. They were... not great. The actual exfoliation part missed many, many places and used short strokes. It wasnt relaxing. I was lying partially on plastic covering of the table and not towels, so I stuck to that when I had to flip over. It felt weird. The massage was supposed to be an hour, but the massage person forgot or didnt know, so gave me a shortened massage. I was brought back to the room when they realized theyd shortened my time, however they asked what Id like done extra (I said neck, shoulders and back) - they asked me to lie on my back and ... it wasnt good. The pressure was weird, their strokes were short, not very relaxing.The facial was amazing - ask for Melanie, she gets 10/10 stars. When the front desk staff asked how things went, and I complained, they said theyd follow up with a comp. Its been 4 days and I havent heard anything. Go for the facial.

I have been here numerous times and they NEVER disappoint! This place is my getaway from home when I need to recharge. The service , atmosphere, massages, and staff is absolutely amazing! It’s definitely time for me to get a spa membership here.🫶🏿

We did the couples massage package. Great deal for this type of service in Monterey. Included a fifty minute massage, brunch, validated parking and all day access to the pool, gym etc. The only thing I can say that would be negative would be, the pool and hot tub are outside and shared with the hotel. So it wasnt clearly advertised like this and some people in the spa were out off by this. We loved our massages and will definitely book again!

Definitely subpar. Not worth the price. Employees are not very welcoming. Facility is not very clean. Steam room was down, no accommodations were made for that. The spa and pool were being used by people from the hotel so we couldn’t use those. We were put in a small closet like room to wait for our therapists. My mom and I each had a massage and a facial. The facials were amazing. My massage from Amie Was 10/10 perfect, amazing. My moms massage from Bri was horrendous. She told her “I’m going to start on your arm because my hands are cold” and then proceeded to “massage” her which was really more like a poking and prodding with frigid cold hands for 20 minutes. My mom was more relaxed going into the “massage” than coming out. This was supposed to be my moms birthday present and when I went to the front desk to try to rectify it they said oh well our manager already left and won’t be back until Monday…… okay…… lol. I guess I’ll wait for their manager to call on Monday…?Update on the situation: Manager Erica reached out to us and offered us a full refund for the bad massage. She was very understanding and helpful. Definitely happy with the outcome. Would give this spa another try.

I did the symphony massage, and it was honestly not that good. Masseuse did not focus on any pain points I indicated. In addition, the pressure points and techniques applied on each side are noticeably different - basically no symmetry or consistency. Masseuse was also rushing to leave once the massage was done. Definitely not worth the hefty price point. The saving grace is the receptionist being very thoughtful about my feedback and offered some compensation. Overall I dont think I can recommend this place, I have been to other establishments with better massage, customer service, and price. Im unsure why this place is so highly rated, but maybe my experience is an outlier.

I had an amazing experience at Spa On The Plaza! The staff is nice and the place itself is very clean and quiet. My skin feels spectacular I recommend getting your facial here and request for Brittney if you want perfect clean happy skin, she’s awesome!

The honey and I booked a couples massage to celebrate our anniversary together. He had Jeff as his masseuse who gave him some tough love for his muscles. He really got in there and helped relieve the tension he was feeling in his body. I had Melanie and absolutely loved her! She was so gentle and caring. Knowing I had back and neck pain, shed check in on me through out the session. She even pointed out at areas in my body that were out of alignment and I could get adjusted in my next chiropractic appointment. I felt relaxed and healed from my session with her. I cant wait until my next visit to Monterey because I would for sure go here again and specifically request Melanie.

The massage I got from Andres was incredible. It was well above any massage I have ever had or expected. If I was a local I would absolutely become a regular if his. If you are not used to a nice spa for a massage this is worth every single penny!

We purchased the Sweetheart Special which when I booked it, per the website and girl I spoke with, included champagne, chocolates/treats, etc. with the 30 minute Jacuzzi and 50 minute massage. That day when I was looking over the website before our massages, they changed the package and got rid of the special items but of course its the same price. The new update says you get herbal tea. The jacuzzi was fine-- I was told it would be in the same room as our massage which it was not but none of the jets turned on so it was just us sitting in a bathtub of hot water- no chocolates, no champagne, not even the herbal tea unless the herbal tea was the one in the spa waiting area with cups small enough to only hold a mouthwash size portion. Very disappointing and not worth the $300. The massages were pretty good but definitely would not recommend this spa to any of our friends or family traveling to Monterey.

Amazing staff and services! Aura, José, and Lulu I highly recommend from regular experience with healing body work. The admin gals as well are always helpful! Erica has been wonderful to help making booking my appts, sometimes even day of!

My massage was awesome! The place is clean and quiet and the staff is friendly. My only complaint would be the wait. I checked in on time and changed, etc. But I was left waiting for my bath for about 20 minutes. I overheard another couple asking when they would be taken to their bath and it sounded like the staff forgot. Then I was taken back to a couples massage room with a tub. Pretty obvious I got their tub and because it took so long the water was like warm. But honestly I will go back! I havent felt that relaxed in a long time!

Really enjoyed the experience here. Had a nice couples massage lined up with short notice. Relaxing, and the staff was very polite and communicative. Only thing is that Im not entirely sure what the different would have been from a regular massage to the special one we got, so the price seemed like it was more than it needed to be in comparison, but Im not complaining about the product they are selling.

Facility & amenities are not nice enough for the price. Pool/hot tub is shared with the hotel. When we went to use the pool, it was crowded with kids playing and screaming, it was not a relaxing experience. Our couples massage was great, but for the price, I would expect a fully relaxing spa experience, not just a nice massage.

For a spa its pretty noisy and there was a lack of attention to detail you would expect at this price point. Random people come and go from the pool directly through the spa past the treatment rooms. All of the trash cans were full and the spa water was usually empty even though spa staff was constantly around. Service was below average.

This was just okay. My husband purchased a Valentines Day package of an 80 minute massage and a 50 or 60 minute facial, I cant remember. It was also supposed to come with a glass of champagne and chocolate or something? Anyway, the facial was great, the aesthetician was thorough and very knowledgeable. The massage was unfortunately mediocre at best. Im not sure if the technician was new or not, but it wasnt enjoyable and definitely wasnt 80 minutes in length. To top it off I didnt receive any champagne or chocolate. The facility was dated and not as clean as it should have been. All in all, I wouldnt go back.

Disappointed. So I scheduled a couples massage (aromatherapy 80minutes) for me and my husband. Im a local and Ive been going to this spa occasionally (birthdays, anniversaries, etc.). When we arrived, changed and were put in different rooms (I was hoping that no one would be by mistake laying down in a room with my husband☺️). Pretty much 1 table was empty in that room for couples massage, that what I found out after when I met my husband in a relaxation room. Our massages were great, that is the only reason I gave this place 3 stars instead of 1 - for poor service. The new employee at the front desk was nice but couldnt really check us out (all her colleagues left already) and she wasnt sure how to apply a gift card and promised by another employee 10% discount (that she said she would put in notes for whoever is going to check me out). So 10 minutes later- no discount. So sad to that after a good massage I left disappointed that the service was not at the level Portola spa used to be couple years ago.

Brianna did such an amazing job! She is absolutely lovely!! I highly recommend the Rose oil massage. Very relaxing!! Felt absolutely wonderful the rest of the day, and she was specific about where I had tension areas. This was really helpful, so I can be more mindful about the areas I need to work on stretching more. Awesome experience here.

Overall, the spa was really nice and very clean and I would come here again. I checked in for my sweetheart special bath and couples massage and my fiancé and I were led to the locker rooms to change into our robes and were told to wait in the relaxation room for our massages. My masseuse arrived and told me it was time for my massage, but it was my understanding that we would be having our bath before the massages. I asked if our bath was still happening and he left for a moment to ask the other staff. I guess they must have forgotten because we ended up getting our massages first and the bath afterwards. I was expecting to be massaged with my fiancé since it was a couples massage, but we were both led to separate rooms. Not a big deal but I wish I would have been told this is how it was when I originally called asking if you do couples massages. The massage itself felt amazing, however my masseuse was a little chatty while I wanted to relax in silence. Once the massage was done and we got to our couples bath, the bath was just slightly warm, we were able to add more hot water though so not too big of a deal. Just wish we could’ve had the bath first to relax prior to the massage. Overall, it was a beautiful spa and was very clean inside, and I would come here again. But maybe without the sweetheart special.

3/5 stars for the amenities/ general environment of the spa. 5/5 stars for my masseuse named Melanie. Melanie is such a kind and knowledgeable person. She really knows how to flow the stored tension in your body. My body felt so rejuvenated, calm, and restored.

Just an awesome spa. Amazing experience at this place.Sally is a pleasant, positive woman with a calming presence. The facial massage is awesomely relaxing! Sally did incredible work with my nail. Definitely come back again.

Amazing spa experience. Visited with my friend and our massages were so relaxing and so good. Spotless clean, great steam room and a fantastic place to go with a friend or two (or just by yourself as well). Can be a bit difficult to reach by phone but they are super responsive to email inquiries.

I came here with high expectations from the reviews and features that Ive read. The spa at best is mediocre. The estetician did a great job with the facial, but I am not certain about the products used as I have never seen them before. The pool and hot tub amenities are part of the hotel, so be prepared to share them with families staying there. Overall, the spa felt like it was missing a personal touch.

Just what the doctor ordered -- a wonderful soothing facial with special peppermint steam to help me feel rejuvenated all over. The shoulder massage that is part of the Designer Facial is especially wonderful. This was a treat to self in advance of a big event, and I was thrilled with every aspect of the service here. I just wish I could have stayed longer to enjoy more of the spa amenities.

My husband and I went to the spa on our anniversary around Thanksgiving. I just happened to pick this spa from an online search. What a great place! We were so pleased with our experience and had an awesome couples massage by Wenli and Allison. I HIGHLY recommend! You will not be disappointed. Trust me.... I have had many massages and am pretty picky :)

Omg first massage Id ever gotten and it was amazing! I got the prenatal and I was told by friends you cant get your feet done or you could go into labor but the lady knew what she was doing and it was great! Also go my nails done for the first time and that was really nicely done as well :D overall great job for great price!

Vanessa L was a great esthetician, very gentle, and Amy gave an amazing massage--great if you like firm pressure. Loved my experience.

I recently spent time in Monterey and visited the Spa on the Plaza for the first time. The spa was just lovely! The treatments included soaks in a variety of tubs and the candle-lit ambience and new age music was very calming. The therapists were very skilled and professional, as was the staff. I enjoyed my body scrub, massage and steam treatments. I highly recommend this spa and cannot wait to make another visit to Monterey! For a truly peaceful and relaxing day, you ought to visit the Spa on the Plaza!

Had the most wonderful facial with Liz. She is a lovely person in addition to her exquisite care and expertise.

I got my hair and make up done here. (For my wedding and my wedding party did as well) I was in tears, my wedding party was so mad they didnt look good they all had to fix the hair and makeup right after. The girl doing my two year old niece hair was mean to her and treated her like she was stupid. (My niece cant talk) if you are getting married I wouldnt by means go to this place. Unless you want your wedding party and wedding ruined. It really was a horrible experience and when my wedding party asked for a refund at how bad it was. They were told to come back another time. (this was a destination wedding) I can say my family and myself never got a refund but some of my girls in the wedding party did. But it took awhile. Not a good experience I felt like it put a rain cloud on my wedding day. Which was seriously disappointing.

The couples massage package here is a little pricey but well worth the money. The massage therapists are professional and well trained. We were late to our appointment due to some unfortunate traffic, but the staffed juggled around our schedule to make sure we got the full treatment.

Spa on the PlazaLast weekend I had the great pleasure of getting a massage from Heidi, who does really lovely work with long deep strokes. My visit was relaxing from start to finish: tea in the sitting room, a healing massage and a steam afterwards.I appreciate both the professional as well as the restful atmosphere of the spa. I love coming back to sample from their many offerings: massage sessions, mani/pedi’s as well as the work of their hair stylists. I highly recommend the spa to anyone visiting the Monterey/Carmel area!

Excellent Service! Spa On the Plaza set very high standards in their profession. Never disappointed me. A Swedish massage session can really help to relieve my pain and relax my stiff shoulders. Will come back again!

This is a wonderful spa. Clean, elegant, relaxing, large, quiet, and well-appointed with a warm and welcoming staff. The unique location allows a guest to enter the cocoon of the spa and re-emerge renewed into the heart of Montereys downtown, ready to join in the festivities or head to the bayside trail to take a walk, or walk to one of the many restaurants for a meal. As a local, I get a discount, which I believe makes this spa stand out as not just a tourist destination. The services are diverse and the products are high quality.

I went for a third time and needless to say the spa is underwhelming. With hefty prices of facials and massages I wanted to be pampered for a day, instead my tub was broken and massage was rushed. Ive been there times and none of the experiences were worthwhile. I wont be going back

Super overpriced for what I got. I asked for highlights and lowlights but the girl didnt put any blond in and didnt even round brush my hair afterwards, she just used a blow dryer and threw in a couple curls. I can do this at home. My hair looked flat afterwards, certainly not what you expect coming out of the hair salon.The hair products they use are high quality, this is the only reason I gave 2 stars. I asked for a trim and she only trimmed the back of my hair, I still have dead ends in the front. Unacceptable!

Visit was OK. Not really worth the money though. Pool area was very busy and noisy, not relaxing spa day friendly. Specialist was decent but focused a lot more on a few specific spots on my back when I wanted more dqual full coverage. Nothing special if u ask me.

Their services and extra features are great! the only down is they never answer the freakin phone! and there is no way that I know of that I could book online tried two different weeks now during business hours and nothing!

Hot tub and pool are outside and shared with the hotel, I did not expect this. The steam bath was not working (or not warm). Massage was good.
