It took quite awhile for me to write this review because I wanted to speak from a place of objectivity. At the time, I’d been a member for several years with zero complaints. The massage therapist are phenomenal and I usually left feeling rejuvenated. However, the disconnect stems from the front desk. They are extremely inconsiderate when they make repeated, blatant errors. After multiple failures of communication, I asked to speak with the manager (who is hardly ever at the location). I thought it would be rectified after some reassurance on her part, but it continued. It got to the point when it became grossly incompetent. When I attempted to call corporate they just circled me back to the local office. I eventually canceled my membership.
First and last time visiting this location. Recently moved from the Miami area. I was looking forward to an hour and a half massage. I just wanted to relax this time so I put “light pressure”. Well the therapist’s interpretation of light was barely touching me and the whole thing was in slow motion. I swear there were moments that she wasn’t even moving her hands. I told her she could increase the pressure to medium and she said “sure” but never did. Didn’t touch my arms or feet, and then never even wiped the oil off her hands before giving me a scalp “massage”. I asked the girl at the front desk if she was new and she said no, she’s been there a couple of years 🫤. What a waste of 1 1/2 hours. Then I tried to book a massage for my husband (transferring my credits). I had originally booked him for his birthday in April but he couldn’t go so I cancelled it. Well they said I couldn’t transfer to him because it hasn’t been 6 months. First of all I was never told you could only do a transfer once every 6 months, and second I cancelled that so it shouldn’t count. I’m only giving two stars instead of one because they waived the $30 charge for CBD presumably because my “massage” was so bad.
Good luck trying to put your membership on hold. Not sure if the person I actually spoke to previously was a manager or not. Was told a couple weeks ago that I could put my membership on hold for six months and any outstanding massages I had to use could be done within 60 days. All of this was via phone.Went to get my massage Saturday and wasn’t charged that day but yesterday the $70 was deducted from my bank. Why would they deduct money if my membership is on hold? Called to speak to manager at Massage Envy and was told a totally different story about the membership “hold” rules. I’m done and any future deductions from my bank will be reported as fraud.Nothing but a scam
I have been a loyal customer for multiple years. I am a veteran and have a bad back. I had to move because of work, no problem with Massage Envy. Unfortunately I have come on tough times and needed to cancel my contract. I was told instantly no problem. I was pleased. Well this was over 2 months ago. I have sent multiple messages and had to turn off my credit card because massage envy keeps trying to charge my card daily now. I have asked many times for help how to get out of my contract and was told I was out of it, but yet charges keep trying to occur on my account. Now no one will help me. I will be willing to change my rating if someone would just help and release me from the contract. I believe this is outright theft. To take money out of the account after I said stop and not even tell me how to cancel it while lying multiple times and tell me it’s canceled.
Excellent massage with Richard! If you need deep tissue work, Richard’s the one to see. I have limited range of motion in my arm and he was able to help relieve the pain and I’m able to bend it more. I will definitely be back to see him as well as the rest of the Massage Envy team! Thanks ya’ll 💜
It was really good experience this time ,,Actually I hv a credit card of them before last year ,,I hv about 40 usd in that ,,As I m a visitor from India ,, when I went to this massage centre , the attendant their told me that somehow my money was deducted and it’s just a dollar left 😨which was weirdSomehow after arguing I get a call that I can take half hour therapy,,AnywaysThe Therapist was very good ,, it was a stress reduction therapyI like it
Lauren did an amazing job....just the right pressure and she listened to me on the areas I wanted her to focus on. Definitely would recommend her and would go back to her myself.
Have been going there for over 11 years, Derek has been the best massage therapist. But most recently I had shoulder surgery and the entire staff has been so helpful, from accommodating that I must not lay flat to opening doors for me and checking on how I’m doing. Thank you Derek for the many years of stellar massages and to the front desk staff for stepping up. I highly recommend Massage Envy of Gainesville.
Not sure where this woman (Dany) went to school, but it was the worse massage my husband ever had. Never really ‘massaged’ just laid her fingers on his neck and back, no legs.
Hannah did a very good job she got my knocks out. I never felt so better I would recommend her to anyone. Great job Hannah
2/16/2024 I was so blessed to speak with Ariel who helped me book an appt for my husband and also an e gift card for a friend .. She was courteous, fast and professional. It was a blessed and pleasant experience. I look forward to visiting the office …
Front desk woman is on point and my massage was excellent. I signed up for a membership I was so happy!
The facials are always great. Michelle , Katie ~~ love the LED light facials.Had my first massage there though, and it was less than great. I hadnt even originally called for a massage; I just wanted to book a facial using my points as Im a member , and got suggested a massage I regret agreeing to. Now I have no points remaining until mid- June. Will not use them for anything at this location other than facials.
They are incredible. Me and my husband love our membership. So worth it! Katie is great for facials. Katie for massages. And what can I say about Brian!!! Probably the best massage I have ever had!!! He was very professional. And hit all the right spots!!! I was so relaxed. I was in a wonderful deep state of mind and body after. Best sleep I had in years that night!! He will be my go to now!!! I highly recommended!!!
My massage was okay I felt like a lot more pressure could have been used as the masseuse was kind of gentle. Another thing I didn’t like is I got there at 5:55 and by the time the massage started it was close to 6:10, and I looked at the time immediately after massage and it was 6:52. So my massage was really really 42 minutes which is missing a huge chunk of the hour and I didn’t really appreciate that. Overall this was definitely one of the not as good massages I have received and I wish that way more was focused on my back. Kind of overpriced for the quality of service
This place has shady business practices. As a business owner myself, I don’t understand how they can conduct themselves the way they do and stay in business. My husband booked me a massage for my birthday and assumed I was able to make the time frame that he booked. He tells me the day of and I let him know that I was unable to make it so they informed my husband they would be charging him $90 for me not being able to attend. I froze my husband’s card and just picked him up a new one. You won’t receive a cent from us. A standard cancellation fee would be $25-$50 and I wouldn’t even charge that to a customer that I’ve never seen before. $90? Absof*knglutely not ❤️
The best in town. Danni is my favorite. Shes so relaxing
Nothing good to say about a chain massage business. I much prefer local massage therapist who take their time, get to know you and are not rushed by corporate policies, and time constraints. I had one massage at this location and have not been back. I was not impressed at all. I lot of time is wasted in the fluff and you lose a lot of actual therapy time. The worst part is the salesman lines that you get when your service is completed. It is relentless. The staff was friendly during my visit.
I had a very uncomfortable experience with masseuse (my first massage after signing up for their membership) that led me to want to discontinue my membership immediately. The manager plays games and won’t allow the cancellation. Says she let the masseuse go and I should be happy enough with that.
Quality of massages are good. Flaw I have found is front staff/ and the new tippy I warn you to look more closely into and to do your own math, they request about 40percent for a tip and I am made to feel like my monthly massage session not paid with money as want you to use extra monthly funds for upgrades even if you have sessions available. This main reason why I cancelled and feel my funds best used at an other massage places. I tip 18 percent and a little more when quality is superior but should not be pressured to have to pay almost half cost more of a massage session on a tip. This raises a red flag and from my research online indicates that they pay licensed therapist close to minimum wage , and then want us to compensate them further each session paying $18-30 per session off a monthly $60 dollar massage percent tip they suggest based on non member rate, that request members pay monthly to also pay. I prefer to support local and a therapist who receive much more of my funds directly. Also keep in mind you must be very through, calling follow up etc , about cancellation policy.
Staff is friendly, environment is calm and welcoming. I see Tayln, Mrs. Alvarez or Dylan, Altho all the massage therapists are amazing! Highly recommend and I love the monthly subscription they have for massages once a month!
Today was my first time At Massage Envy…. And this definitely want be my last time…. The customer service was awesome and friendly… My massage therapist made me feel so amazing Danielle was her name….she was so sweet very soft spoken….and she was very gentle…. I highly recommend this place…
The monthly cost is less than many other one hour massages around town, and points/hours rollover each month if unused which is nice. You can add enhancements or lengthen your normal session if you have an leftover -- Ive even gifted my hours before which makes for easy an easy present. Ive had several really talented people at the Gainesville store.
Excellent experience! If you’re looking for a deep tissue massage, book with Dylan. It’s been a few days since my service and my body still feels amazing. I can finally straighten my arm out all the way out without any pain! Highly recommend 😊
Had a not so good experience, however, Management rectified it. Shout out to Hannah...the best.!
Not the worst massage Ive had but definitely far from the best. My therapist was very chatty and didnt seem to have a whole lot of training. I was disappointed that the table didnt have a heating system and was right underneath the air vent. And the front desk staff seemed unprofessional. I definitely would not go back.
I had been going to this location for about 2 years because there are several massage therapists I have had great experiences with (Joseph & Johnny are great!) but recently got a massage from Dylan and was shocked. He barely put in the time to ask what I wanted to work on, he started to FALL ASLEEP, and when I tried to provide some feedback he kind of mumbled and I realized he had headphones in and was listening to a podcast throughout the session. ME has also just changed their tipping system and you have to pay a fee if you wish to tip the therapists. I cancelled my membership and notified them why and I never received an apology for that experience. I was only told that they would tell the manager about my complaint.
Ive been getting regular massages for years here and the implementation of the new Tippy tipping system feels like a straight money grab. It doesnt seem to benefit the therapists and charges customers a fee each time (and as other reviewers have pointed out, the math seems... off). There are great people who work here, for sure, but if you work with any of them, be sure to bring cash!
My 90 minute massage was with Laura. Regretfully Laura was just not that great. Her appearance was disheveled. She was not all that welcoming, somewhat awkward. Maybe new to her trade? Regardless, I explained my areas of focus but that I was wanting an overall body massage. She started with my back.. Same massage motions over and over, hardly any variation at all... Then she moved to my legs and feet. She barely touched my upper leg area and mainly massaged my feet. Then flipped me over and did my arms, mainly hands, back to my legs and again my feet... Then finally my shoulders with the same repetitive motion. The owners may want to shop their massage therapist. Laura needs to work on her technique and overall appearance both physically and confidence wise. This certainly wasnt the worst massage I have had but it is in the top 3.
My first experience with this location was incredible!!! I called the same day and the kind receptionist was able to fit me in just an hour and a half later with Richard!Richard was PERFECT for me as I truly needed someone that was able to get deep into my muscles after experiencing an injury with my arm! He was kind, courteous, and very polite! He got right to work and I came out feeling like I had a brand new body.Kirsten (so sorry if this is misspelled!) was so friendly and helpful, both on the phone and in person. She even chatted with me about North Carolina, where my husband and I are moving soon and where she recently moved from! She gave me tips and tricks on the area and I just know I wouldn’t have received this service elsewhere!Donovan was SO helpful and courteous while checking me in! He seemed like he may have been training someone at the same time and checking me in and he was cool, calm, and collected when he could have possibly been stressed about assisting a client and training! You guys have an INCREDIBLE staff!!!! So grateful for this Massage Envy team! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
This was my first visit and I left quite dissatisfied. Their advertised 60 min massage is actually 48min... after waiting for around 2 weeks so they would have a prenatal therapist available I expected much more. I asked for a full body massage only avoiding my abdomen. She didnt touch my arms, thighs or scalp (which I specifically asked for). Im giving them 2 stars because she actually didnt speak during the massage which I loved and overall they were friendly. If you decide to go here, dont have high expectations so you wont be disappointed like I was.
I had an amazing experience at Massage Envy. I received a facial from Sabrina and it was very relaxing. She is extremely knowledgeable about skin care and gives excellent advice on how to improve your personal regime. I would recommend this service to everyone! Self care is a must!
Enjoyed my visit! Welcoming from the moment I walked in, to when I checked out. My massage with Cat was amazing! She listened to my needs. I had some trouble spots that she worked on and I could immediatley tell a difference.
Krystal is the reason I go here...Plain and simple. Staff and atmosphere is great but your paying for a good massage. Ive gone to many massage therapists in Gainesville but she is by far the most knowledgeable MT Ive ever had. If you have back problems like me, and need more than a relaxing massage, she is the one to see. She gets booked pretty far in advance but its for a reason.
Got a massage at this place today. Im giving it a 3 because of the unpleasant receptionist. I didnt get a name but Im sure other customers feel the same. Skinny blonde young chick not engaging at all did not explained the questions I had. when I spoke to her on the phone it felt the same way. After I schedule my appointment I called back because I had forgotten my appointment time well she spoke over me didnt even let me tell her who I was. People like that keep customers away I simply wouldnt go back because I dont want to deal with negative little girls.
I booked a 30 minute RTR. They asked if a male was ok. I said yes. He arrived to get me 5 minutes late and finished 5 minutes early. He used a vibration device on me. He didn’t touch me once. I wondered if he preferred to not work on a male. At any rate the result was I wasted my money.
Used to be a regular at ☁️9. I tried ME and had and absolutely great experience. Their massages are custom to what level of pressure you need. They won’t charge you more if you would like deep tissue. If you would like someone who is able to provide you with a deep tissue massage Heidi is your person.
Went here for my first deep full body massage since I broke my back in April.Robbie was my masseuse and did a really good job asking me what was areas of concern.I received a 90 min massage.I have received 20+ if not more massages in my lifetime. But it has been awhile since I broke my back.So I knew I wasnt going to be able to go as deep as I normally would.Explained we could start off with Med-ish pressure, he could tell when I need less and only had a few spots I was super sensitive but he did a fantastic job.I feel the price is great. I normally would pay $60 for a 50 min massage. I paid $60 for a 90 min massage. And when I go back it will be $40 for a 60 min or $60 for a 90 min .Cant wait to go back next week.
I came into town to visit my Dad and ended up burying him, in a lot of pain ran late for appt due to Funeral arrangements they refused to work with me about arranging another time for my massage but were very happy to keep my entire fee Per Policy. Dont use these scam artists! Even death is not an excuse to be late to an appointment with them!
I had a massage therapist named Micheal. He was very inappropriate and the whole experience was very unsettling. He also used pressure points that hurt very badly.
I enjoyed my massage with Laura. She was great at tuning in to where I needed it most. I like a deep pressure and she did not disappoint. She also mentioned some stretches and yoga poses that I could try. I appreciated that.
I recommend Michelle for facials. She does a fantastic job all around. She listens to your needs and communicates well during the service. 5 stars for Michelle.Stay clear of their new esthetician. I had an appointment last night and my experience was horrendous. She didnt massage my arms or scalp (which is standard for facials). My skin was on fire and also my eyes since she decided to put alcohol pads on them and continuously pressed them on harder to keep them from falling off I guess. Also she kept dropping product on my mouth. Sloppy horrible service. I will definitely never book with her again. She claimed to have over a decade experience in the industry but I think this lady is in the wrong industry. A newbie straight out of school would do better than her.I also had a prenatal massage with Cierra or Sierra? a while back and thought she did great. Although they make you lay on your side since they do not have the tables with the holes for your belly. That was slightly uncomfortable. I was really looking forward to laying facedown.Overall Massage Envy is okay. I think their membership is a good bargain but should be more selective in who they hire.
My first time ever getting a massage and I didnt want to leave. Would highly recommend
My facial was spectacular. Ms. Katie was very professional, gave great info, and helped me pick put the best facial products needed. The massages are great as well. Wonderful and friendly staff thats super helpful
Very pleasant & professional from the front counter, the massage room, and the hallway. Each therapist was unique in their expertise. Priscilla & Hannah expelled their Chi .
Sam did an incredible job. She gave me exactly what I asked for and did a lot to relieve the tension in my shoulders and back. She clearly has excellent training and intuition. I will be going back to see her again. Highly recommend.
Great friendly staff, my massage therapist did great work and made me feel welcome. I work in IT and server repair, so my back undergoes a lot and Massage Envy helped me recover. Ill definitely be back!
The stores ambience is beautiful, clean & relaxing. However my masseuse started 20 minutes late on a 60 min. massage. Worst yet, she also forgot to include the aromatherapy package upgrade I requested and paid for. I came in stressed & left out stressed. You Ought To Beware...
Ive had a few decent massages here, but the majority have not been good. Downright bad would be a better description. They make it seem like you are getting a better deal but really you arent because they put pressure on you to tip the therapist while the therapist is standing there. I canceled my membership after the last 5th bad massage here, and the place had the nerve to tell me I didnt cancel because I didnt fill out the 2nd sheet of the cancellation form(which they never gave me while I was there!) save you money and go to Spa Royale for a good massage.
Corrupt business practices. They charge for appointments you can’t keep. They schedule appoints a month in advance. They couldn’t reschedule appointment but still charge for the original appointment that they couldn’t reschedule. Money comes out your account whether you keep the appointment or not, and they are always too busy to reschedule, but you still pay. I got a 800, customer service number, they only handle it thru an email. As soon as I complained, they block my account, but still take my money. Customer service never returns any emails. I can only assume it’s an email that is unmonitored. After I paid for 4 months and they could never schedule me, I finally had to call VISA to cancel payments. Basically, you pay for services never rendered, that is how they make their money. They charge your account but you’re never able to schedule appointments.
Terrible experience. Left feeling so much more stressed than when I had come in. I’ve had massages with Massage Envy in the past at another location and this was a VERY different experience. Entire experience from front staff to and actual massage were awful.
I love going to massage envy because the people at the front are so kind and the masseuse are the best. I enjoyed that relaxing massage and I told my therapist that she was a woman with anointed hands thank you ENVY!
I just had a horrible massage at the Gainesville, FL Massage Envy.Im a 61 year old service disabled Marine veteran. Shot in the line of duty, severe hearing loss from weapons fire, and PTSD. I set an appointment after reading the good reviews (many of which I think were by people who got Free massages). I should have given more credence to the Bad Reviews since they mirror my same Bad experience.I had a 1pm appointment. As a professional paralegal for attorneys for 20 years, I was Shocked that this business forces you to sign an extensive WAIVER of ALL your legal rights, including the right to file a lawsuit for damages for injuries, mishaps, or plain negligence by employees on their premises. SUCH WAIVERS ARE ILLEGAL AND UNENFORCEABLE. You can never be required to waive any of your constitutional or legal rights as a condition required to getting service or conducting business with them or any other business. This was the first Big Red Flag. I have NEVER had a massage professional Ever require that I sign a waiver to perform the massage. I asked for a copy of this legal document I signed and they could not print it out until After my massage (?!). And even then it was not a copy of the forced waiver that I actually signed. Under contract law, my waiver is INVALID since they did not give a copy of the waiver I actually signed. They also ask for personal medical information and Do Not give the mandatory HIPPA medical rights advisory Before doing so. Requesting such personal medical information is also ILLEGAL without a HIPPA advisory, and has no bearing on anything related to a simple massage.Next, I got assigned to a masseuse named Diana. Short, dark hair. THREE TIMES during my massage I asked her STOP using her elbow and use her fingers to perform traditional massage of my left shoulder, upper back, and right knee. She defied my requests. Instead, this unskilled, incompetent lady gave me the Excuse that she could not use her fingers to do traditional muscle & tissue massage since her hands are too small. OMG!! I should have just got up and left when heard this totally lame excuse.Several other times I had to ask this unskilled, incompetent employee to stop using so much pressure on my shoulder and upper back. As a result, I was very sore the next day and still have discomfort in these areas due to her fictional massage technique of using only her Elbow to apply pressure.I have had massages by many, many professional massage services and Never, Ever had any of them use their elbow to perform massage. Further, when this so-called, alleged certified masseuse started out my massage, she was massaging my lower legs through a bed sheet. Another Big Red Flag. I asked her why she was doing that and she said it was the company policy. Try finding these company policies on the mandatory waiver of rights they force you to sign or the Massage Envy website. Or anywhere else where such notices are required to be posted by Law. They are required by law to give you such advance notices of their policies, so you can make an informed decision of whether you want to do business with them.AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE. There are many other massage services in Gainesville that Do Not require you to sign away all your legal rights just to get a 50 minute massage. Only the local dumbed down college students at UF would put up with such shoddy, totally unprofessional service. They may have some some very good massage therapists on staff, but why roll the dice whether you get one or Not?
Just had my first massage ever and it went great! The staff was very kind and helpful. Richard did amazing and was thorough. I had a lovely experience.
Front desk customer service=trash.Massage therapist was great..
Suffering from Fibromyalgia, it is very difficult to handle many massages. However, there are times your muscles are just so tight for so long, you push through and go for a massage. I called and made an appointment asking for Travis as he was recommended for Deep Tissue massages. Couldnt have asked for a more compassionate and caring masseuer. He spoke with me about areas of concern and pressure, paying attention to the areas that were more tender and needing the most work. 60 minutes felt like 90 as he accomplished what I asked for.HIGHLY recommend Massage Envy and Travis.
The Gainesville Massage Envy is great. They took the time to discover my needs and with a couple of tries I found the therapist that was right for me. The staff took care of my membership needs without a hassle and helped me get in with a particular therapist when she was all booked up. Massage Envy locations are very hit or miss, in my experience, but the Gainesville one is worth the time and money.
Self care is important; therefore, finding your fit is important too. For the most part Im able to get in with the therapist of my choice at a convenient time. Treat yourself to time to relax.
Exceedingly poor customer service. Unable to comment on massages as the manager canceled our reservation. My friend and I had planned to get massages for her birthday then afterward retreat to her porch to read novels and drink wine. My friend had an UNOPENED bottle of wine in her bag we had just bought for this intent prior to walking over to the store front. Upon hearing discussions of our plan, the receptionist whisked my friend back to the managers office where she was summarily interrogated about her sobriety, made to throw away the UNOPENED bottle (a birthday present), and had our reservation canceled because we werent sober even though no alcohol had been consumed. Ruined our birthday festivities and destroyed a birthday present. Neither I nor my friend will be returning.
Massage Envy - Butler Plaza is accommodating and the staff is highly trained. If you have an unpleasurable experience, address the issue with the management. They will handle your concerns and make sure you are well taken care of. Communication between you and the therapist is very important.
I was a member for almost 9 years. My therapist was late and horrible, my husband had a hot stone, said the guy did not do half of what we were used to in Port Orange. Then they charged me $250.00! For the two sessions! Will NEVER Go Back.
Incredibly friendly staff. I felt amazing after going and would totally recommend it. The massages get customized to your liking.
Great massage - unbeatable price! I read a lot of bad reviews over the membership. Its a contract you cant just break. The longer you sign up for, the more perks & discounts.
Paid for 90 minutes massage, only got 65 minutes. 25 minutes for consulting which only took a minute.....Its not the first time this happened. Dont know if Ill be back. Good place, but needs better management.
Loved it. Will definitely go again
Michele is the best esthetician! Very welcoming environment and friendly staff. I was able to thoroughly relax and feel pampered without spending too much. Would recommend!
Helen was great with the facial, my skin feels wonderful! I will be coming back for sure. Staff was very friendly and very helpful. Thanks again helen for making my skin feel great!
Very nice they like the upsell you on things I thought Id give it a try my shoulder hurt. For $70 not bad I will book another one.
THIS PLACE IS A SCAM! They sign you up for a membership without telling you you will be locked in for a year. I was told I could cancel any time and now I need a doctors note to cancel! Complete scam artists.
Recommend Heidi who does a fantastic job. This place is very professional and I have been going here for over a year and I always feel better after my massage.
Staff are awesome. Very accommodating from start to finish. Richard and Arielle are super great at what they do. Thank you both.
I expressed how thoroughly I disliked my massage and how my therapist was practically rubbing my bones and they offered no discount, sympathy or correction to this problem. I will definitely not be returning.
I did not enjoy my experience or massage here. The massage therapist rushed my massage and gave me a headache. They also were not able to accommodate our massage peferences.
Amazing massage from Kayla with a facial and upper body massage with Stephanie! Highly recommend both ladies, and the front desk staff was very friendly!
Great customer service and the massage was just as expected I will certainly be back the price was also very reasonable
Easy scheduling. Excellent esthetician (Suzanne). Wonderful massage therapist (Aivia). Great location!
Front staff was very welcome, and my therapist Dorothy was absolutely amazing. I will be returning.
Love the place. Donnovan is amazing. Great memory and personal touch.
